Chapter 166 Daniel, Scarlett Ran Away
Scarlett sensed something was wrong. The moment Jagger reached out to grab her, she swung her bag hard at him.
"Help! Someone help!"
At the same time, she shouted loudly.
The commotion immediately drew people's attention, but the two men reacted quickly.
They clearly realized Scarlett had figured out their evil intentions. Jagger grabbed hold of Ingrid while the other one quickly stepped forward, wrapped his arm around Scarlett's waist, and said loudly.
"Baby, stop making a scene. Let's not fight anymore, okay? It's all my fault! Sorry everyone, my girlfriend had too much to drink..."
He was trying to drag Scarlett away with him.
Scarlett was terrified, especially when she saw from the corner of her eye that the people she'd called out to for help actually believed him and were turning back to keep dancing. Scarlett immediately shouted.
"I'm gay! Let go of me and my girlfriend. We're a couple. We don't even know you!"
Scarlett yelled, struggling as she grabbed hold of Ingrid.
"Let go of my girlfriend! Honey!"
Scarlett knew that only by creating a spectacle could she quickly grab the crowd's attention.
After shouting, she steeled herself and kissed Ingrid as proof.
Two beautiful, hot women kissing—the crowd instantly went wild.
Before Jagger could cover Scarlett's mouth, the situation had completely spiraled out of control!
Scarlett had taken control of the situation, and many people crowded around them.
They'd pulled this kind of thing together many times before. Usually by this point, those women would be so scared they couldn't speak straight.
Even if they could still shout, they'd just yell things like "He's not my boyfriend" or "Help me, I don't know him."
Anyone hearing that would just think it was a couple having a fight, and usually wouldn't get involved.
But Scarlett completely broke the script!
"These two girls are a couple. Do you guys actually know them or not?"
"Two such pretty girls—how did they end up together?"
"Something seems off about these two guys."
Seeing they were being watched, Jagger and his partner got anxious and panicked. They exchanged glances, threw Ingrid to the ground, and tried to run.
"Girl, what's going on?" Just then, Bruce and his friends were also attracted by the noise.
Bruce pushed through the crowd. Scarlett quickly pointed at the fleeing Jagger and his partner.
"Stop them! They're human traffickers!"
When Daniel saw the photos Chris sent, his handsome face darkened.
Daniel immediately called Scarlett, but she was doing just fine—she simply wouldn't answer.
Daniel couldn't sit still any longer. With a cold expression, he got out of the hospital bed and ordered coldly to those outside.
"Get the car ready now!"
But when Daniel arrived at Tipsy Tonight, Scarlett was already gone.
Chris and Alton were still there though. They'd just been on the second floor with a perfect view, watching quite a show unfold.
Neither Alton nor Chris was surprised by Daniel's arrival.
"Where is she?" Daniel asked coldly.
Chris glanced at his watch, turned to look at Alton, and raised an eyebrow. "Thirty-seven minutes, less than an hour. I win."
Alton felt utterly depressed. His new sports car.
Limited edition, waited half a year for it. He'd barely driven it a few times since getting it, and now he'd lost it?
"Daniel, if you'd just held out a bit longer, another twenty minutes or so, I wouldn't have..."
Alton looked at Daniel resentfully, but met Daniel's cold stare.
Alton's scalp immediately tightened, and he shut his mouth.
Daniel didn't need to ask what they'd been betting on. He had no mood to argue with them now. He asked coldly again.
"Where is she?"
"Daniel, calm down."
"Because what might make you even angrier is coming."
Daniel was already impatient, his eyes sharp as knives.
Chris quickly said, "Scarlett was taken to the police station."
"Daniel's next stop on his journey is the police station."
Police station?
Daniel couldn't take it anymore. He said coldly, "Three, two..."
"Scarlett helped catch two human traffickers and saved a woman. She went to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. She left just ten minutes ago."
Chris immediately gave a clear account. Daniel turned and walked away. Chris smiled slightly, calling out to his back with a smirk.
"Daniel, Scarlett's pretty smart. I'll send you the video later. Free of charge."
---
Police station.
Scarlett cooperated with the police and gave her statement. What a coincidence—the person she saved turned out to be Bruce's cousin, Ingrid.
Once at the police station, Ingrid fell completely unconscious. They didn't know if the two men had drugged her. The police had just drawn blood for testing.
After Scarlett finished her statement, Bruce, who was supporting Ingrid, said quickly, "Scarlett, thank you so much for today. If it weren't for you, something terrible would have happened to Ingrid. I didn't even know she'd secretly come to Shadow City."
Ingrid was leaning against Bruce, her messy hair pushed aside. Only then did Scarlett get a clear look at Ingrid's face.
Ingrid looked about twenty-four or twenty-five, wearing heavy makeup, but quite pretty. No wonder those thugs had targeted her.
Scarlett smiled and waved at Bruce. "It was the right thing to do. How is she?"
"Don't worry about her. She deserves to learn a lesson. Wait a second, I'll find someone to take you home."
Bruce saw the fatigue in Scarlett's eyes and was about to make a call.
He still had to wait for the police test results and couldn't leave yet.
Scarlett quickly said, "No need, I can get a cab back myself. You take care of her."
She was about to turn and leave when she saw a tall, upright man walking toward them, wearing a medium-length gray trench coat over a British striped suit.
He was walking against the light, a halo around his face making it hard to see his features clearly, but his presence was powerful, dignified and composed.
Scarlett's heart skipped a beat. Just as she was getting a bit flustered, he came closer and his face became clear.
He was also very handsome, with deep features that were striking but not too sharp—a restrained kind of good-looking. It wasn't Daniel.
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to look away and leave, she heard Bruce call out.
"Theron, you're here."
So this was Theron Howard, the cousin Bruce had mentioned earlier who was coming to pick them up and handle this matter.
Scarlett didn't linger. She lowered her head and quickly left.
"Theron, she's the one who saved Ingrid. Where is she? She was just standing there. How did she disappear so quickly?" Bruce looked toward where Scarlett had been standing.
But Theron had also noticed Scarlett standing there. He turned toward the corridor.
He only caught a glimpse of a slender, graceful figure walking away in the distance.
Outside the police station, Scarlett was looking down at her ride-hailing app when a horn sounded.
Scarlett instinctively looked up and saw a familiar black limited-edition sports car stopped a few steps away.
The rear window was half-lowered. In the dark night, Daniel's stern profile looked even more deep and cold.
His powerful presence pressed toward Scarlett from a distance.
Scarlett felt inexplicably guilty and afraid, probably a lingering effect from growing up under his control.
She slowly walked over and opened the car door to get in.
"How did you get here?" she asked first, thinking about his injury. She was somewhat worried that he'd just run out of the hospital like this.
Only then did Daniel suddenly turn to look at her, his eyes cold and dark, his lips curling.
"This is what you call not feeling well?"
He was very angry!
Scarlett was stung by his cold, questioning gaze. Her nose reddened, and she was about to mention going to the hospital when Daniel suddenly reached out, grabbed her chin, and said coldly and sarcastically.
"Faking illness to come out and flirt with men? Scarlett, when I wasn't in the country, is this how you played Mrs. Wilson?"
Flirt?
She'd clearly just been doing normal work, celebrating victory and sharing achievements with her colleagues. How did it become so ugly coming from his mouth?
In his eyes, was she really such a cheap, low, and careless woman? Was that why he wasn't willing to clear things up for her or protect her dignity?
Scarlett turned her head, trying to shake off his grip.
"I just did a good deed and came out of the police station. I wasn't arrested for bad behavior. I..."
Daniel could still suppress his dissatisfaction when she didn't mention it, but once she brought it up, thinking of the video Chris had just sent—how Scarlett had almost been taken away by those two men—Daniel wanted to tie up Scarlett's hands and feet and lock her up.
He coldly interrupted her. "You're pregnant, running around to all these messy places. Instead of reflecting on yourself, you think you're right about everything? Should I give you a certificate for being a good citizen, is that it?"
Scarlett's chin hurt from his grip. She was already very tired and didn't want to argue with him anymore. She just said flatly.
"Whatever you want. I don't mind."
She pulled Daniel's hand away, leaned her head against the seat back, and closed her eyes.
