Chapter 153 Resolving the Misunderstanding
Hot and forceful with a hint of punishment, Scarlett's heart trembled slightly. Her legs went weak, and she unconsciously sat down on Daniel's lap as he kissed her deeper and deeper.
Until Daniel released her, breathing heavily, and said helplessly, "You're hurting me."
Scarlett fell silent.
She looked down and only then realized that she had unconsciously reached out to grab Daniel's clothes around his waist and abdomen. She seemed to have touched his wound.
She immediately let go of the hospital gown she'd been clutching, feeling flustered, and glared at Daniel with false bravado.
"Serves you right. You haven't even explained things clearly yet. Who told you to suddenly kiss me!"
Daniel chuckled and lifted Scarlett's chin.
"Staying by my side makes you cheap?"
Scarlett pressed her rosy lips together. "Who told you to hide everything from me!"
Her voice was soft, carrying grievance and coquettishness, with a touch of willfulness.
Like a hook, tugging at Daniel's heart, making it itch and soften.
He pinched her chin. "Now I'm telling you - Alice and I were never together. As for the child in her belly, you'll find out in time."
Scarlett pressed her lips together, but since he really wouldn't say more, there was nothing she could do.
She pouted, and Daniel lowered his head, kissing her again directly.
But at that moment, the hospital room door was suddenly pushed open.
"Daniel, I heard that Scarlett she..."
At the doorway, Magnolia was in front, Blair behind her with two servants. Everyone stopped in their tracks, eyes wide with shock.
This scene felt oddly familiar.
On the same day, in the same place, embarrassed in the same way twice - Scarlett never expected this.
Scarlett's face instantly flushed red. She just wanted to find a hole to hide in.
However, Magnolia's reaction was clearly different from Tom and the doctor who had just closed the door to give them privacy.
Before Scarlett could even react, Magnolia charged in aggressively, waving her cane.
Magnolia's face was full of anger. "I knew you bastard was up to no good! How could you force Scarlett! Did you drag her back from the airport? Are you trying to force her to have your baby, trying to imprison her, trying to control her with a child? Get away from her! How did the Wilson family raise scum like you!"
Magnolia raised her cane and struck Daniel's back, then grabbed the back of his collar, trying to pull him away.
Daniel felt helpless. Worried that Magnolia might hurt her back at her age, he cooperatively sat up from beside Scarlett and said helplessly.
"Grandma, I didn't."
Scarlett sat up with a red face, embarrassed.
But Scarlett thought to herself that if you looked past the surface to the essence, Magnolia had guessed everything right.
It was just that Scarlett was too weak-willed and had been tricked back by his schemes.
"Mom! Daniel is injured, how can you hit him?"
Blair rushed forward anxiously, pulling back Magnolia who still wanted to strike.
Blair had clearly angered Daniel earlier at the hospital room door, and Daniel had shut her out.
She knew that even barging into the room, Daniel wouldn't give her a pleasant look, so she had informed Magnolia about this.
Daniel was injured because of Scarlett. Blair thought Magnolia would at least scold Scarlett.
Ideally, she'd send Scarlett abroad quickly so the divorce between Daniel and Scarlett wouldn't hit any more snags.
But who knew Magnolia would be so completely biased toward Scarlett, this outsider.
Not only did Magnolia not scold Scarlett, she beat and criticized Daniel instead.
"He's a grown man. He didn't protect his wife properly, so what's wrong with getting hurt for Scarlett afterward?
Come on, you can see he's fine, still full of energy and taking advantage of Scarlett at an inappropriate time. What could be wrong with him?"
Magnolia pressed her lips together and looked at Blair with displeasure.
Scarlett's already red face turned even redder because of what Magnolia said.
Scarlett hastily sat up from the hospital bed, lowering her head to fix her hair.
As she moved, she turned to glare at Daniel, signaling him to say something quickly to ease the awkwardness.
But Daniel raised his eyebrows slightly and actually agreed with Magnolia.
"Grandma's right. I didn't protect my wife properly, so this stab wound is what I deserve."
After he spoke, Scarlett felt Blair's shocked and speechless gaze. Scarlett felt even more at a loss for words.
Then Daniel said, "Grandma, now's not the time to discuss this. There's some good news I need to tell you and Mother."
Scarlett roughly realized what Daniel wanted to say, but she wasn't ready to publicly announce her pregnancy yet.
After all, before Magnolia and the others arrived, Scarlett hadn't completely decided to stay.
Scarlett felt a bit panicked and quickly looked up at Daniel.
But Daniel was gazing at her. Scarlett's eyes met his smiling, deep gaze, and Daniel reached out to hold her right hand.
His fingers slowly intertwined with hers, their fingers interlocking.
Daniel's palm was so broad and warm, full of security, just like when she was little - as long as he held her hand, she wasn't afraid of any hardship.
In that instant, Scarlett's anxious and flustered heart suddenly calmed down.
A smile appeared on her face as she nodded slightly at him.
"What good news? Just say it already."
Watching Scarlett and Daniel holding hands and smiling at each other, Magnolia seemed thoughtful and urged them anxiously.
But Blair frowned. What good news could they announce at a time like this?
She didn't need to think to know - Scarlett and Daniel weren't getting divorced again.
Blair just felt a headache coming on and immediately interrupted, "Mom, let's check on Daniel's injury first. Other matters..."
Before Blair could finish, Magnolia angrily struck the floor with her cane.
"He's sitting right here. Anyone with eyes can see he's fine. Do you feel uncomfortable if you don't make others feel bad for a moment?"
Magnolia didn't give Blair any face at all. Blair's face turned pale. She looked at Daniel for help, seeking rescue.
However, Daniel didn't look at Blair. Instead, he turned to smile gently at Scarlett.
Magnolia also looked at Scarlett with a beaming smile. "Scarlett dear, you tell me..."
They were all happy together while Blair stood aside, ignored.
Blair didn't want to hear any good news about not divorcing. She turned around and walked out angrily.
At that moment, Daniel's deep voice, rarely showing such joy, came from behind her.
"Grandma, she's shy, so let me say it. Scarlett is pregnant. The baby is already over three months along. Grandma, I'm going to be a father, and you're going to be a great-grandmother."
Although Magnolia had guessed from Scarlett and Daniel's expressions earlier that it wasn't something as simple as not divorcing.
But Magnolia didn't expect that Scarlett was actually pregnant.
After a moment of shock, Magnolia was overjoyed. She just felt that Daniel's look of wanting to announce to the whole world that he was going to be a father was simply embarrassing.
Magnolia stood up from her chair, pushed Daniel aside, sat down next to Scarlett, snatched Scarlett's hand from Daniel's palm, held it tightly, and asked.
"Scarlett, is this true?"
