Chapter 146 He Gently Coaxes Her and Explains to Her
"Bunny?"
Daniel froze for a moment, but a slight smile had already formed at the corners of his thin lips.
He had pressured her so much before, yet she still refused to tell him about the pregnancy herself.
He knew it was because she had never given up on the idea of divorcing him and leaving.
Now that she had finally said it out loud, did it mean her thoughts had changed?
Scarlett nodded. She took Daniel's hand and placed it on her lower abdomen, looking up at him nervously.
"Daniel, Bunny is the nickname I gave the baby. I'm already over three months pregnant."
Scarlett held her breath. In her emotional turmoil, she had blurted out about the baby.
Because she realized that no matter what, Daniel was Bunny's father, and he had the right to know.
If something really happened to Daniel and he didn't even know about the baby, it would be an irreparable regret for him, for herself, and for Bunny.
But Daniel's previous attitude toward her pregnancy, and his cold words "get rid of it if you're pregnant," cast a huge shadow over Scarlett's heart.
She was terrified that Daniel's reaction to this news wouldn't be joy, but anger and coldness.
Scarlett's hand holding Daniel's large palm gradually trembled and grew cold as she waited.
Because the delight she had hoped for—she didn't see it on Daniel's face.
He looked so calm, so indifferent.
This wasn't at all how a father expecting a baby should react.
Sure enough, he wasn't looking forward to Bunny's arrival. He didn't love this child either.
Perhaps the baby's existence was insignificant to him, something he could take or leave.
All those thoughts about regret were just her own wishful thinking.
Scarlett's heart sank bit by bit. She suddenly let go of his hand and stood up, about to run out.
But just as she turned around before taking a step, Daniel reached out from behind and wrapped his arms around her waist.
His deep voice came from behind her, "You're finally not hiding it from me anymore? Scarlett, as long as I'm alive—even if I die, don't even think about letting my child call another man daddy!"
Daniel's handsome face pressed against Scarlett's lower back as he gradually tightened his arms.
Scarlett stiffened, then processed what he meant.
She turned around in surprise, "You knew? When did you find out?"
Daniel released her and pulled her to sit back down by the hospital bed. His thin lips curved in a mocking arc, his eyes deep.
"What do you think? Scarlett, you're really something—you went to great lengths to hide it from me, didn't you?"
Under Daniel's heavy gaze, Scarlett felt guilty, her palms sweating.
She thought about how Daniel had chased her back from the airport, constantly asking if she had something to tell him.
She looked at him with shock and anger, her lips trembling slightly.
"So in the car before, when you pressured me like that, you already knew I was pregnant, but you still toyed with me without a care, played games with me, watched me struggle in fear! How could you be so awful!"
He knew she was pregnant, yet he still tormented her in every way.
Sure enough, he didn't care about this child at all!
In an instant, Scarlett's face turned pale. She stood up from the bed and pushed Daniel away forcefully.
But Daniel suddenly gripped her waist, pulled her back, his large hand controlling the back of her neck, forcing her to bend down. Daniel's eyes were cold and mocking.
"Yes, I knew! I pressured you like that, and you still wouldn't tell me about the pregnancy! You never planned to keep this child, did you?"
Daniel's voice was icy, carrying suppressed anger and heavy frustration.
But Scarlett was furious. With reddened eyes, she glared at Daniel.
"Why did I hide it from you—don't you know? What woman who's pregnant and becoming a mother doesn't want to share it with her husband right away? How could I not want Bunny? It's you! It's all because of you!"
As Scarlett accused him, anger and grievance filled her chest again, and she couldn't help but shed more tears.
She thought about how other women's husbands would share in the happiness when they got pregnant, would treasure and care for their wives, and look forward to the baby's birth together.
But ever since she got pregnant, she had been hiding and afraid, worried that Daniel wouldn't want the baby or would even make her abort it. Thinking about this made Scarlett feel incredibly bitter.
"Daniel, how can you blame others! You don't deserve to be Bunny's father!"
She said through sobs, raising her fist to hit Daniel.
Her fist landed on Daniel's chest.
Scarlett sadly realized that even now, she had instinctively avoided the area near Daniel's wound.
This made her nose sting even more as tears fell.
Daniel suddenly raised his hand, his large palm wrapping around her fist and gripping it tightly, his handsome face darkening.
However, when he saw her face covered in tears, Daniel's brow furrowed and he froze slightly.
"Why are you crying? You hid your pregnancy from me and planned to go abroad with Ramon, and I'm not crying! Scarlett, how can you have the nerve to cry!"
"I'll cry if I want to! I'm sick of you!"
Scarlett felt embarrassed, but she couldn't control her tears.
And her increasing tears made Daniel furrow his brow, at a loss.
He simply grabbed her chin, leaned down, and forcefully sealed her lips with his.
Scarlett didn't expect him to kiss her so suddenly. Her eyes widened, and when she came to her senses, she began to struggle.
Daniel simply held her waist and lifted her onto the bed.
Scarlett was forced to spread her legs and sit on Daniel's lap. He held the back of her head, kissing her deeper and deeper.
Not until Scarlett was kissed weak and soft against Daniel, with no energy left to cry, only fine gasps remaining, did Daniel release her.
He brushed his fingertips over her swollen lips and said in a hoarse voice.
"Now that the baby is here, there's no reason not to have it. Scarlett, give birth to our Bunny properly, and stop thinking about running away from me!"
He lowered his head, pressing against her chin, enunciating each word, "If you run again and I catch you, just wait and see how I deal with you!"
She was stunned, staring at Daniel.
"Daniel, are you really looking forward to the baby being born?"
She didn't dare blink, her nose red, her moist rosy lips pressed together.
Daniel roughly rubbed her nose with his finger, "Unless you cheated on me and this child isn't mine?"
"Of course it's yours!"
Scarlett was furious. Daniel raised his eyebrows slightly.
"Since it's mine, how could I not look forward to my own child's birth? Are you stupid?"
Scarlett looked at him, but felt an unsettled, dreamlike sensation.
He had been so careful about contraception before, clearly not wanting her to get pregnant.
When she didn't want to take birth control pills, he had said with his own mouth that if she got pregnant, he would make her abort it.
Those words hung over her like a shadow, which was why she didn't dare tell him about the pregnancy.
Thinking about this, a suffocating and painful feeling spread through Scarlett's heart again.
But now he seemed to accept the baby so easily, as if he was even looking forward to it.
Scarlett gazed at him, wanting to ask him clearly why he had been like that before.
"But you..."
