Chapter 117 He Will Never Choose Her
It took Scarlett quite a while of questioning to piece together what had happened.
Turns out, right after she left the hospital, Sarah and Alice got into an argument.
Sarah reported it to the police directly, claiming someone was cyberbullying and slandering her, and had sent people to the hospital to cause trouble and extort money.
She even waved Kirk's livestream phone in front of Alice, thoroughly scaring her.
Who knew Alice would have a guilty conscience and actually fall for Sarah's trap.
Worried the police would find something, Alice sent someone to steal the phone back. Sarah was prepared though - the person didn't get the phone, but Sarah caught them red-handed.
The police arrived just in time, and the phone thief immediately ratted out Laura.
Based on the information in the phone, the police also brought in Kirk who did the livestream, and found that Kirk indeed had financial transactions with Laura.
This time, with premeditated online exposure and defamation, Alice couldn't escape punishment!
"We haven't been able to reach Natalia and the other two. Does Ms. Lewis still want to press extortion charges against them?" Officer Cooper Hart asked Scarlett.
Natalia and the other two had been taken away by Daniel, who said he would handle it for Scarlett.
Even if Scarlett pressed extortion charges against Natalia, first, no actual crime had been completed, and second, Natalia was Scarlett's mother - in the end it would just be a slap on the wrist.
Scarlett shook her head. "Let's not waste police resources. Thank you."
Cooper nodded. "Alright then. Regarding Alice and her agent Laura's slander and defamation case, we'll investigate further and contact you both when there's progress..."
Scarlett and Sarah exchanged glances, both smiling.
After all, Alice had been constantly making trouble, so being able to get some payback felt good.
They thanked him and prepared to leave, but Cooper gave Sarah another reminder.
"Ms. Johnson, though you handled yourself well, next time please prioritize your own safety. We don't encourage putting yourself in danger to lure criminals. Go get that injury treated."
"You're hurt?"
Scarlett was alarmed. Sarah pulled out her right hand that had been hidden in her sleeve.
"Just scraped the skin a bit, no big deal."
It really was just a scrape, but Scarlett felt terrible about it.
"Please listen to Mr. Hart!"
"Yes, yes, I definitely will." Sarah smiled to comfort Scarlett.
Sarah felt that getting Alice and that obviously scheming Laura locked up for a few days and sentenced was totally worth this little injury.
But then a young officer walked over and whispered something in Cooper's ear.
Cooper's expression changed slightly. He glanced at the two women and frowned.
Scarlett had a bad feeling, and sure enough, Cooper said:
"During the preliminary questioning, Laura admitted she did everything herself and Alice knew nothing about it. Also, someone came to bail out Alice, and she's already been released."
Scarlett and Sarah's brief moment of satisfaction instantly frosted over.
"How can this be? I need to see who's so annoying that they'd bail out Alice!"
Sarah was furious and pulled Scarlett quickly out of the police station.
Right at the entrance, they spotted Daniel's familiar car. The back window was half-open, Daniel still wearing his earlier suit with a black mask, his profile cold and perfect.
And beside him sat Alice, her delicate face completely pale and looking fragile.
Scarlett stopped in her tracks. She had thought Reid and Thora would be the ones to bail out Alice.
But it turned out to be Daniel.
"Shit! Daniel really is that bitch Alice's devoted admirer, always cleaning up her messes! Scarlett, good thing you woke up in time and registered that divorce with that damn Daniel, otherwise you'd be so pissed right now!"
After a moment of shock, Sarah cursed out loud.
Her voice was loud, not caring if the people in the car heard - in fact, she was deliberately cursing for Daniel and Alice, those two damn jerks, to hear.
And Daniel and Alice in the car did indeed look over at the sound.
Daniel's gaze landed on Scarlett. Meeting her empty stare, Daniel's hand on his leg curled slightly.
Then he pushed open the car door, got out, and walked quickly toward them.
Seeing this, Alice's eyes flashed coldly, and she followed him out.
Daniel stood in front of Scarlett, looking down at her, asking gently: "Weren't you going to the hospital? Why are you here too?"
Scarlett raised her eyes slightly. "If I wasn't here, how would I witness Daniel's deep devotion to Ms. Brown?"
Scarlett's words were mocking. Daniel frowned, about to explain, when Sarah pulled Scarlett away, distancing her from Daniel.
"Daniel, you have the nerve to ask? What, the ex-husband role isn't quite settled yet, so you're done with that and want to be her enemy now? You came to bail out a woman who tried to hurt Scarlett - you're really something!"
Sarah rudely gave Daniel a sarcastic thumbs up.
Scarlett's face turned pale. She also found it pretty ridiculous.
Just moments ago in the car, Daniel had been saying sorry to her over and over, seemingly wanting to make amends.
In the blink of an eye, he used that same car to pick up Alice, who had hurt her.
Sure enough, no matter when, between her and Alice, Daniel would always choose Alice without hesitation.
"The police have investigated thoroughly - it was all Laura's doing. Currently there's no evidence proving Alice was involved in this. She was released without charges, no bail needed."
He came to pick up Alice only because he was worried something might happen to the baby in Alice's belly.
He hadn't interfered with the police investigation, and he certainly hadn't bailed out Alice.
Daniel's explanation couldn't calm Sarah's anger. She laughed coldly.
"Laura has no grudge against Scarlett, why would she do such a thing? She's Alice's agent, they're in this together. If Alice didn't tell Laura to do it, why would Laura slander and expose Scarlett online!"
Alice came forward crying, looking guilty.
"Laura has been my agent for three years, we get along like sisters. Ms. Johnson saying this really makes me ashamed, but I truly didn't know about this beforehand.
Laura saw me get beaten until my face was swollen and I lost teeth. I was bedridden for days, and still had to endure online abuse and lost countless followers. In my distress, I almost had a miscarriage.
Laura felt sorry for me and worried about me. Afraid I'd be upset, she didn't tell me and made this mistake behind my back.
But she really acted on impulse. She's realized her mistake now, and fortunately nothing serious came of the livestream."
Alice explained through tears, one hand on her belly. She even stepped forward to grab Scarlett's hand, continuing:
"It's because my pregnancy is showing and I'm not carrying well - I'm weak and uncomfortable every day, so I didn't have the energy to notice Laura's intentions in time. Scarlett, I'm sorry, I sincerely apologize to you. Can you forgive me?"
Alice's mouth could twist black into white.
She spoke words of apology, but kept rubbing her belly and saying hurtful things, stabbing knives into Scarlett's heart.
Scarlett directly shook off her hand and laughed lightly.
"Stop pretending! Do you think you're the only smart person in the world? You really think having Laura take all the blame means you can keep playing the innocent girl? Everyone knows what really happened!"
Sarah also pointed at Alice's nose contemptuously.
"You're really good with words, aren't you? You got beaten because you were shameless enough to drug Scarlett's water with sleeping pills! You lost followers and got criticized because you have no talent and your violin playing sucks!
How is it that in your mouth, it's all Scarlett's fault, like she deserved to be schemed against? Someone as vicious as you who never reflects on yourself - the child you give birth to will only be a menace to society..."
"Sarah! Watch your words!"
Daniel suddenly interrupted Sarah coldly, his eyes sharp and icy as he looked over.
