Chapter 307 You Only Know How to Cover Up

Chapter 307 You Only Know How to Cover Up

Scarlett's head was pounding. She tried to calm the frustration building in her chest.

"Rest and recover? That'll take a month, won't it? And after a month, you'll probably tell me I need another month of rest, right?"

She even suspected that after two months, whether her body had recovered woulddepend entirely on his word

Daniel looked down at her. "I'm not that low."

Scarlett scoffed. He really had a skewed perception of himself.

"We're divorced. We have nothing to do with each other now. Your restricting my freedom is false imprisonment—it's illegal. You can't keep me locked up forever. I'm calling the police..."

Before Scarlett could finish, Daniel handed her a phone.

Scarlett paused. Daniel raised an eyebrow.

"You want to call the police? Go ahead and call now."

Scarlett laughed bitterly. Did he think she wouldn't, or that she didn't dare?

She grabbed the phone and dialed the emergency number without hesitation.

Things went surprisingly smoothly. The operator patiently asked Scarlett about her situation.

Scarlett clearly explained everything—how she was taken from the hospital, what car she was in, which direction they were heading.

"Please send someone quickly."

The operator went silent, then said, "Ms. Lewis, you're saying you were kidnapped from the hospital, and the person who kidnapped you is right beside you, just watching you call the police?"

"Yes, I..."

"Then may I ask what the kidnapper's name is? You must know it, right?"

"Daniel Wilson."

The silence on the other end grew even longer.

"Daniel Wilson from the Wilson Group?"

"Yes."

"Ms. Lewis, filing a false police report carries legal consequences."

"I'm not..."

"I suggest you read less trash novels and do less fantasizing."

Before Scarlett could say more, they hung up. The officer had practically called her delusional.

Scarlett clutched the phone, on the verge of tears.

She threw the phone at Daniel and turned to stare out the window, fuming.

But the operator must have verified the report anyway, because five minutes later, Daniel received a call from the precinct chief.

In just a few words, Daniel covered the whole thing up.

Scarlett listened in silence, her heart growing cold.

Daniel really did have tremendous power and influence. Yet with all that power, he couldn't protect her Bunny.

After hanging up, Daniel looked at the unusually quiet Scarlett. He couldn't bear to see her bottling everything up like this.

His voice softened. "Get well, and I'll keep my word."

"Looking at you makes me depressed—there's no way I can get well!" Scarlett said coldly.

Daniel's body stiffened for a moment, then he replied coldly, "Then force yourself to get well. Otherwise, be prepared to stay by my side forever!"

Scarlett was furious and stopped trying to communicate with him.

The car stopped. Daniel wrapped Scarlett in another layer of cashmere blanket, covering even her head and face, and carried her out.

It wasn't until she was placed on a bed in a room that Scarlett realized this wasn't Regal Estate. Everything around her was unfamiliar—not any of the villas she'd lived in before.

Daniel left, and soon a private doctor came in to examine Scarlett again and set up an IV drip.

The doctor had barely left when Daniel walked back in, only to find that Scarlett had already pulled out the IV catheter herself and tossed it aside.

Her hand was bruised and bleeding.

Daniel's expression changed. He strode toward her with a gust of cold air, sat on the bed, and grabbed her bleeding hand.

"Scarlett! Are you crazy? Using this kind of tactic against me!"

He shouted angrily, called for a nurse, and pressed a cotton swab to stop the bleeding.

Scarlett leaned against the headboard, numb and emotionless, watching him with cold eyes as he looked both angry and anxious.

She felt no satisfaction from revenge. Her heart was completely numb.

"Daniel, isn't this what you wanted? You've been pushing me all along. I actually hope I do go crazy—then I wouldn't have to face you anymore."

Her voice was flat, matter-of-fact, and it frightened him.

His face turned pale, cold sweat forming on his handsome features.

He thought—she really was cruel.

She knew he cared about her, so she was using herself as a weapon against him.

She no longer valued his love—she was trampling on it without a second thought.

Daniel's handsome face darkened. After a moment, he suddenly gripped her wrist tightly, his bloodshot eyes boring into hers as he said coldly:

"Scarlett, John is dead, but we still don't know who was behind him. If you want to avenge Bunny, you need to stay here quietly, by my side!"

Scarlett didn't know John was dead.

She had assumed that after Steven reported it, John had been arrested.

Scarlett's eyelashes fluttered. Her dull eyes gradually ignited with sharp, hateful light as she stared at Daniel.

"What do you mean?" Her voice trembled with rage.

She had been so consumed by grief over losing her baby, so trapped in self-blame for trusting the wrong person, that she hadn't had time to think it through.

She really had thought John was just afraid of going back to prison and took a desperate gamble to kidnap her for ransom money.

But now that she thought about it—how could John have pulled off something this big on his own!

"There seemed to be a signal jammer in the car, and that phone call to the hospital about James being critically ill."

Scarlett remembered that night in the car, Zaid had tried to contact Daniel, but the phone wouldn't go through.

She'd thought it was because of the weather, but as soon as she escaped the car, Daniel's call came through.

Obviously the signal had been jammed in the car. And that call from the nurse—

John must have already been waiting on the road to make his move. There's no way he could have made that call.

"It was the White family! It had to be the White family, right!"

Scarlett gripped Daniel's arm tightly, her eyes gradually stained with the red of hatred.

The White family was all she could think of.

They hated Scarlett so much—for blocking Waverly from marrying Daniel, and even more for Ella's death because of Scarlett.

When they failed to kill Scarlett in Aquilonia, they plotted an even more sinister kidnapping—killing with a borrowed knife.

That night, Daniel had been conveniently called out to the suburbs by Waverly.

Besides the White family, Scarlett couldn't think of anyone else.

Thinking of how Waverly had looked outside the hospital nursery today, Scarlett hated that she'd only just figured it out.

She shouldn't have just slapped Waverly. She should have stabbed her!

"It was Waverly! She even wore festive red today—she was celebrating in front of me, celebrating her victory!"

Scarlett's whole body trembled with extreme emotion.

Daniel hadn't wanted to tell her any of this. The doctor said she shouldn't get too emotional. But her lifeless, depressed, self-suppressing appearance made him panic.

He thought if hatred could spark her fighting spirit, could help her recover, then let her hate.

He thought, at least they still had the same hatred, the same enemy.

But the next second, Scarlett suddenly pushed him away. Her eyes filled with grief and doubt as she murmured:

"How stupid of me to even ask you this. If it really was the White family, you'd probably just cover it up and protect them."
