Chapter 306 I Can't Let Go
Chapter 306 I Can't Let Go
Hearing that voice, Scarlett felt her blood freeze in an instant, her heart stop.
She slowly turned her head and saw Daniel sitting in the back of the car.
Daniel was still wearing a hospital gown, his handsome face pale and sickly, making his deep-set eyes appear even more unfathomably dark and mysterious.
Scarlett instinctively pressed her hand against her chest and let out a gasp.
Seeing her face drain of color in an instant, Daniel felt a tightness in his chest.
He pushed aside the chair next to him and reached out to pull the still-stunned Scarlett into his arms.
As she fell into his embrace, Scarlett felt none of the familiar comfort and warmth, only a bone-chilling fear.
"Let me go! I want to get out!"
She struggled, reaching for the car door.
Daniel grabbed her frantically moving hand, forcibly pried her fingers apart, and interlocked them with his.
Daniel's voice pressed against her ear, "You're afraid of me?"
Scarlett was held in his arms, but her small hand was ice-cold, her body trembling slightly.
And just moments ago, when she realized he was in the car, her face had gone pale-a sight that pierced Daniel.
"Yes, Can't I be afraid of you? Daniel, you're a nightmare now, a devil!"
Scarlett said through gritted teeth, her eyes filled with hatred as she glared at Daniel.
She didn't understand what Daniel was still holding onto at this point.
"I'm a devil? Then who's the hero saving you? Is it him?"
Daniel suddenly gripped Scarlett's delicate chin, forcing her to turn her head.
Through the car window, outside the receding hospital building, Ramon ran out, his expression anxious.
The nurse who had just helped Scarlett out was beside Ramon, pointing in this direction and saying something. Ramon looked their way.
Clearly, Ramon had realized that Scarlett had been trapped by that bastard Daniel.
Scarlett bit her lip, staring intently out the car window, hoping Ramon would chase after them.
However, before her eyes could meet Ramon's Daniel's hand on her chin applied slight pressure, turning her small face back.
She was forced to look up into his dark eyes.
"Still hoping he'll chase after you and take you away? Or are you hoping more for Theron, who saved you?"
Scarlett stared coldly at Daniel. "It doesn't matter who it is, as long as it's not you."
She no longer longed for his appearance; she even feared and rejected it.
In her heart, at some point, he had transformed from savior to abuser.
Scarlett's words pierced Daniel's chest like fine needles, causing a suffocating pain.
His jawline twitched, but he held her even tighter, saying coldly.
"Too bad, I won't let go. It doesn't matter who you're thinking of!"
"Boss, they're catching up from behind," the driver said.
Scarlett instinctively tried to look back, hope rising in her heart.
But this movement triggered Daniel. He forcefully pressed her small face back against his chest, saying in a deep voice.
"Lose them."
"Boss, you and Ms. Lewis hold on tight."
The driver immediately accelerated, and Daniel tightened his arms, trapping Scarlett in his embrace.
The car sped up and turned sharply. Although Scarlett was held securely in Daniel's arms, she only felt annoyed.
Before long, the car gradually steadied, presumably having shaken off the pursuing vehicle.
Daniel loosened his arms slightly and looked down, asking gently.
"Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Do you want some water?"
Scarlett didn't want to drink; she wanted to spit in his face.
She turned her head away, her brow furrowed tightly, her whole body cold with rejection.
But Danielpicked up a thermos on his own, unscrewed it, and brought it to Scarlett's lips.
"This is soup specially made for you, the perfect temperature, sweet. Try it."
Scarlett was sick of being forced to eat and drink by him.
She reached out to grab the thermos, wanting to splash it directly on Daniel's seemingly affectionate face.
But Daniel was clearly prepared. Despite Scarlett's efforts, she couldn't snatch it away. Daniel's large hand held the cup, completely unmoved.
Frustrated, Scarlett looked up to curse at him, but Daniel tilted his head back, took a sip of the soup, lowered his head to cover her lips, and forcibly poured the liquid into her mouth.
Scarlett's eyes widenedas she refused to swallow.
Daniel's hand on her chin pressed a spot, and Scarlett swallowed involuntarily.
The sweet soup tasted only bitter to her.
"Stop the car! I'm going to throw up."
Scarlett wiped her lips forcefully, her expressionfilled withdisgusted.
A vein throbbed at Daniel's temple. He pinched her chin and force-fed her another mouthful the same way.
Watching her small face flush slightly—whether from anger or discomfort—he wiped the corner of her lips with his fingertip and said coldly.
"You need to rest and recover. You can't go outin the wind. If you really want to throw up, throw up in the car. I don't mind."
As he spoke, he leaned over to grab the trash bin hanging on the car door beside them.
The next second, Scarlett clutched the trash bin and actually did vomit.
At that moment, Daniel's pale face darkened instantly.
Clearly, he thought she was deliberately trying to upset him.
He hadn't expected that she really couldn't stand it and had to vomit.
And this reality was something he couldn't accept, making his already gloomy handsome face even more defeated.
Scarlett didn't stop until her stomach was completely empty.
She propped herself up, trying to get off Daniel's lap. This time, he didn't stop her.
Scarlett leaned against the other car door, rinsed her mouth, wiped her face with a tissue, and panted weakly.
Only then did Daniel's hoarse voice sound in the car.
"Do you really detest me this much?"
Scarlett looked up at him. Even in the oversized hospital gown, Daniel's bearing and looks were undiminished.
He was still handsome and noble, still the man whose appearance she had loved most before. But now, even someone like her who loved looking at handsome men couldn't feel the slightest flutter for this face.
She sneered, pulling at the corner of her lips. "That's right. You saw it yourself—physical nausea can't be controlled. I'm so sorry."
Scarlett said this, but actually, her body was weak, and after that wild car chase, she was severely dizzy and lightheaded.
But she wanted Daniel to think exactly that, or else would she wait for him to use the same tricks on her again and again?
Sure enough, Daniel turned his head away, no longer looking at her.
Scarlett knew that Daniel, proud beyond measure, had been deeply wounded in his self-esteem.
But would she still care?
She looked at the increasingly unfamiliar street scenes outside the window, still trying to negotiate with him.
Because besides this, she had no other options.
"Mr. Wilson, we're already divorced, and Bunny is gone too. Separating now would be the best ending for us. Do you really want me to hate you even more?"
Daniel's jawline tightened. He had said before.
He would rather she hate him than be indifferent to him.
But deep down, he knew he didn't want her to hate him. He couldn't bear her hatred.
It's just that he knew if he let go this time, he truly wouldn't be able to keep her.
After a long while, he turned back, looking at Scarlett and saying hoarsely.
"Looking at you so thin and frail now, I can't let go. Take good care of yourself and recover properly. When your body is completely recovered, I'll let you go."
