Chapter 177 Disheartened
Even over the phone, Scarlett's voice was ice-cold.
Daniel paused for a moment. "You've misunderstood. I just wanted to get things clear."
Scarlett wasn't surprised in the slightestthat Blair would run to Daniel to complain and exaggerate everything.
Scarlett didn't want to explain anything.
Her voice was cold. "No need to ask me. Whatever your mom says goes."
Daniel frowned. "Scarlett, don't take your frustrations out on me."
Scarlett felt a tightness in her chest and let out a bitter laughed.
"You're wrong. Women make a fuss because they want to be comforted. What's the point of me throwing a tantrum with you? Besides, only people who don't want to break up throw tantrums."
If she'd really decided to leave him, she wouldn't throw tantrums anymore.
She would just feel cold and disappointed.
Scarlett was about to hang up when a woman's voice came through the phone.
"Daniel, you came to the hospital and haven't had breakfast yet, right? I had the helper get something from the hospital cafeteria. Sorry it's not much, but please have some."
Scarlett had heard this voice through the phone before.
Honestly, it was a pleasant, refreshing female voice. Melodic, even.
It was Waverly.
No wonder Daniel had left in such a hurry this morning—he was rushing to see her.
And last night when he came home so late, he probably wasn't working overtime at the company at all.
Scarlett flashed a self-mocking smile and hung up without hesitation.
In the hospital corridor, Daniel held his phone, his brow knotted in frustration.
He didn't quite understand what Scarlett had just said, but he felt something was terribly wrong—her attitude toward him was completely wrong.
He turned around and made a silencing gesture to Waverly behind him, then turned back to continue the call, asking, "What do you mean, part ways?"
But there was no response from the other end.
Daniel's frown deepened. Now he was certain—Scarlett was definitely mad at him.
He called again, but this time it wouldn't go through at all.
Daniel thought about how Blair said Scarlett had lost her temper and run out of The Wilson Mansion. He couldn't help but worry, so he called Tom and ordered, "Find out where Scarlett went."
He hung up and then turned around.
"Sorry, I didn't see you were on the phone just now. I interrupted you," Waverly apologized.
Daniel's voice was gentle. "It was my wife."
Waverly nodded. Daniel suddenly asked, "Do pregnant women often become temperamental for no reason?"
"What?" Waverly looked surprised.
She clearly hadn't expected Daniel to suddenly ask her such a question.
"My wife was fine when I left this morning, but just now on the phone she was very angry, and now she is ignoring my calls at all."
She froze, then suddenly laughed.
"What is it?" Daniel frowned slightly.
She looked embarrassed and quickly waved her hand. "Sorry, I just didn't expect a man of your position would worry about this kind of thing too."
Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Why wouldn't I?"
She nodded and said with a smile, "You're right. That was narrow-minded of me. During pregnancy, women's hormones change, so emotional instability is normal. That's why they need extra care and attention..."
They talked as they walked toward the hospital room.
At the door, Benjamin came out with a big smile, along with the doctors.
After the doctors left, Benjamin patted Daniel on the shoulder.
"Daniel, thank you. The doctor said your godmother is in high spiritsand her condition has improved. I can see her complexion is much better today too. You and Waverly should go in and see her."
In the distance, someone was taking a series of photos of them with their phone.
Daniel didn't come out of the room until half an hour later.
By then, Tom was already waiting outside.
Daniel walked toward the elevator and asked Tom, "Did you find her?"
Tom quickly caught up. "Ms. Johnson picked up Mrs. Wilson from The Wilson Mansion this morning. The two of them headedto the Shadow City Grand Theater together."
"What is she doing there?" Daniel whirled around.
Tom gave a slow shake of his head. "We haven't pinned that down yet, but we'll have an update shortly"
At the Shadow City Grand Theater, Theron was already waiting when Scarlett arrived. Scarlett hadn't expected Bruce to show up too.
Upon spotting her Bruce rushed over looking concerned.
"Scarlett, are you up to this? Are you sure you can dance? If you’re not 100% yet, don't overdo it Hold off until you're ready, then have Theron present youto the dance company. Take your time. Isn't that right, Theron?"
Bruce turned to look at Theron shot Bruce a look frostily.
"My time is limited"
With that, Theron gave Scarlett a curt nod. "Shall we. Don't let me down"
He led the way inside, hisposture rigid and purposeful.
Bruce flushed with embarrassment and faced Scarlett looking pained.
"Scarlett, that's just his way. Don't take it to heart. Besides, it's me he's annoyed with. Scarlett, please don't be nervous."
Scarlett nodded with a smile. "Don't worry, I'm not that fragile. Mr. Howard, I'm very grateful that you recommended me and gave me this opportunity. Why would I mind?"
Bruce smiled and turned to chase after Theron.
Sarah linked arms with Scarlett and leaned in to whisper.
"Honestly, this is the first time I've seen a man who can kill a conversation even better than Daniel. He's definitely worthy of being the CEO of Howard Enterprises and Daniel's rival."
Scarlett looked surprised. "Rival?"
She'd never heard this before.
Sarah nodded. "You didn't know? Well, I guess not. In your eyes, Daniel is so amazing that no one could be his rival."
Scarlett fell silent.
That was true before—in her heart and eyes, there was only Daniel. She couldn't see any other man.
"Howard Enterprises and the Wilson Group were both real estate giants before. The two companies were evenly matched. Daniel is the heir of the Wilson family, and Theron runs Howard Enterprises. They're both so young, so people naturally compare them and call them rivals.
But in recent years, Daniel has steered the Star Group toward high-tech, new energy, chemicals, and automobiles, while Howard Enterprises under Theron has focused heavily on culture and entertainment. So they don't really compete head-to-head anymore."
Sarah gently elbowed Scarlett and whispered, "Why don't you really work it during the dance and make Theron fall for you? Daniel would be so mad."
Scarlett fell silent.
"What's wrong?"
"Stop acting. You should just become a screenwriter. You're giving me way too much credit."
What kind of beautiful women hasn't Theron seen? How could he possibly fall for a pregnant woman?
Even a screenwriter wouldn't dare write something that ridiculous.
But Sarah didn't agree. Scarlett obviously hadn't watched herself dance properly.
Scarlett was beautiful enough to change a woman's orientation. Theron wasn't blind.
Besides, Theron was a CEO of a major corporation—he didn't seem like someone who'd casually give out business cards and personally act as someone's reference.
Maybe he really did have some interest.
Scarlett met with Jade, who showed her a dance routine and asked Scarlett to try it on stage.
Scarlett only watched the video twice before putting down the phone, taking off her coat, handing it to Sarah, and going on stage.
At the same time, outside the theater, Daniel's usual car pulled up.
Daniel got out, a chill radiating from him.
A staff member hurried over.
"Mr. Daniel Wilson, Mrs. Scarlett Wilson and Mr. Howard are in the music hall on the east side. Mrs. Scarlett Wilson has already gone on stage to try the dance. I'll take you there."
Hearing that Scarlett was already on stage, Daniel frowned slightly and strode inside.
