Chapter 105 Never Again Will There Be Such a Heart-Wrenching Love
When Scarlett heard Daniel's instruction, she felt relieved, but tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks again.
The car was only so big, and the driver Oscar didn't even dare to breathe.
Even though Scarlett didn't want to cry out loud, intermittent sobbing sounds kept coming.
Daniel's expression grew irritated. He turned his head, looking at her with cold eyes, and said, "Scarlett, if you keep crying, I'm taking it back!"
When he wouldn't divorce, she cried.
Now that he would divorce, she still cried.
She couldn't possibly be crying tears of joy, could she?
When Daniel thought this might be possible, his handsome face darkened even more.
Daniel's hand resting on his knee clenched into a fist, making a slight sound.
Scarlett was so scared that her tears stopped immediately. She blinked her red eyes and shrank against the car window like a frightened little rabbit.
"Don't be mean, I'm not crying anymore."
Her voice was muffled and nasal. Daniel's anger inexplicably got stuck in his chest, unable to come out at all.
He let out a cold snort. That was being mean?
She had never seen him when he was really mean.
Daniel closed his eyes, as if looking at her one more time would be annoying.
Scarlett let out a breath of relief, pulled out a tissue, and wiped her face. Then she secretly took out a mirror to look at herself.
Seeing her red eyes and somewhat messy appearance in the mirror, her expression became frustrated.
This wasn't how she had imagined the divorce would be.
Their wedding hadn't been grand or beautiful. She had originally thought that for the divorce, she should at least take it seriously, dress up nicely, and be more carefree and dignified.
But things didn't go as planned.
Scarlett sighed silently and tidied her hair in the mirror.
Daniel's eyes were slightly closed when his phone rang. He opened his eyes and saw Scarlett looking in the mirror, fixing herself up.
Her relaxed and carefree manner made the coldness in his eyes grow stronger.
She really was overjoyed and couldn't wait to divorce him.
The call was from Tom. Daniel was just about to give Tom some instructions, so he answered.
"Mr. Wilson, just now at the coffee shop, Ms. Wilson..."
Tom was reporting about what happened at the coffee shop, but just as he started, Daniel interrupted him with an instruction.
"Go to The Wilson Mansion study right now, get some documents and bring them to the court on Rosewood Lane."
Tom on the other end of the phone was completely confused. He understood each word, but he didn't know Daniel's real intention.
"Mr. Wilson, what did you say?"
Daniel's voice seemed to be freezing, "Are you getting old and hard of hearing?"
Even through the phone, Tom could feel the low pressure coming from Daniel, but Tom didn't dare to agree.
Was Daniel going to get divorced?
But hadn't Daniel been trying to win Scarlett back all this time? How did they suddenly end up going to get divorced?
If he, Tom, agreed to this, and Daniel later blamed him for causing the divorce, what future would he have!
Tom thought again - what if Daniel had the phone on speaker, and actually Daniel was being forced by Scarlett to divorce, just trying to save face?
If he, as the special assistant, didn't pick up on this and actually caused Daniel to get divorced, then his life would be over today.
In two or three seconds, countless thoughts popped up in Tom's mind.
He gripped the phone, his palms sweating, and said loudly.
"Hello! Mr. Wilson, what did you say? My signal is bad, hello..."
Tom, under enormous pressure, pulled the phone away and hung up directly.
The car fell silent. Tom's voice had been so loud that even Scarlett heard what he said.
Scarlett was afraid something might change again. She suspected that Daniel had secretly hinted to Tom, which was why he acted that way.
She looked at Daniel with suspicion and doubt, frowning, "Mr. Green isn't on a business trip in some remote wilderness, how could his signal be bad? If those documents are at The Wilson Mansion, why don't I call and have Oscar from The Wilson Mansion bring them over, or we could go back to The Wilson Mansion to get them first. We still have time."
Daniel's ice-cold eyes glanced lightly at the extremely anxious Scarlett.
His grip on the phone tightened a bit, his thin lips curling coldly, "No need."
"What do you mean no need? Are you trying to back out again? Why won't you just divorce? At this rate, I'm starting to think you've fallen in love with me and can't leave me!" Scarlett blurted out anxiously.
Daniel's expression became hard to read for a moment. He raised an eyebrow, "If I said I love you and can't leave you, would we not get divorced?"
Scarlett's heart took a heavy blow, and her mind went blank because of Daniel's words.
She stared at Daniel blankly. The mockery at the corner of Daniel's lips and the cold, emotionless look in his eyes brought her back to reality.
No one confesses with that expression, much less with that sarcastic tone.
Besides, how could Daniel possibly love her and not be able to leave her?
Two years of a marriage without care - hadn't that made her see clearly enough?
Scarlett clenched her hands tightly, "We must get divorced."
She stared at Daniel.
On Daniel's stunningly handsome face, there was indeed no sadness, no embarrassment from being rejected, only endless mockery and indifference.
Daniel's long fingers lightly tapped his phone, "Of course we're getting divorced."
Daniel turned the phone in his palm and called Tom again.
Tom's phone rang again. Tom was terrified, but he didn't dare not answer.
"You're overthinking so much, do I need to give you extra pay for that?"
Daniel's voice was low and sinister, full of displeasure at Tom's presumptuous thinking.
Tom groaned inwardly and quickly responded, "Mr. Wilson, I'll go get it and bring it to you right away."
After Daniel hung up, he glanced at Scarlett, that glance seeming to say, don't think too highly of yourself, stop making wild guesses about his thoughts.
Scarlett felt a bit embarrassed, bit her lip, and looked out the window.
The car fell into extreme silence until it stopped at the marriage registration office.
Tom hadn't arrived yet. Oscar probably felt the atmosphere was too heavy, so after parking, he pretended to go to the bathroom and left.
Only Scarlett and Daniel were left in the car. Daniel leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed, while Scarlett couldn't help but carefully watch him.
Even without love, he was still the most important man in her life.
In her life, he had played too many roles.
He was salvation, he was light, he was an idol, a guide, both brother and father figure, and even more so, the lover she desired but couldn't have.
For the rest of her long life, Scarlett knew that even if time healed everything and taught her to love another person, it would never be as deeply etched in her heart as loving Daniel.
No one else would ever leave such a vivid and bold imprint of their name in her heart like he did.
There really wouldn't be anyone else.
Thinking of this, she felt extremely painful.
Scarlett almost said out loud, "Let's not get divorced, let's try again."
"Have you looked enough?" Daniel suddenly opened his eyes.
When Daniel turned his head to look at her, Scarlett quickly blinked to hide all that sadness.
She smiled and said, "Daniel, your tie is crooked. Let me fix it for you."
She knelt on the seat, leaned over, and grabbed Daniel's tie without asking.
He had just loosened his tie himself and unbuttoned two shirt buttons.
Scarlett straightened the tie, first carefully smoothed his shirt collar, buttoned it up, and then untied the tie, wanting to retie it from the beginning.
Daniel looked down at Scarlett, who was so close, looking like a devoted wife doting on her husband.
He thought maybe she wasn't as set on divorce as she appeared. He raised his hand to grip Scarlett's wrist and asked in a deep voice.
"Scarlett, is there anything else you want to say?"
If you say now that you're just being silly, it's still not too late.
