Chapter 103: Daniel, We're Even
Daniel's gaze fell on the bank card being handed to him, and his eyes instantly froze like ice.
Daniel didn't take the card. He looked up and stared at Scarlett.
"Is this why you wanted to see me today?"
His voice carried suppressed anger. On the way here, he had imagined many scenarios—maybe she had suddenly come to her senses and didn't want to keep fighting. Or maybe she had experienced hardships on her own during this time, encountered some trouble, suffered some grievance, and wanted to turn to him.
He had even thought that perhaps she simply missed him.
Daniel had been full of anticipation the whole way, urging Tom to drive faster. But he never expected that she was here to give him this thirty million dollars, and with Ramon no less.
She really knew how to surprise him now.
Daniel felt a chill throughout his body, but Scarlett showed no fear.
She just wanted to leave this place quickly. She didn't want to see Daniel or Juno at all.
"Yes, the thirty million dollars we agreed on, not a cent less. Take it." She urged him, and seeing Daniel wouldn't take it, she tried to shove it into his hand.
But Daniel not only didn't take it, he pulled his hand back, as if Scarlett was handing him not a huge sum of thirty million dollars, but a death warrant.
Scarlett frowned. "What do you mean?"
Daniel said coldly, "Scarlett, didn't I tell you I don't take dirty money?"
Daniel's gaze was pointed, sweeping over Ramon standing behind Scarlett.
His meaning was obvious—he thought Scarlett got this money from Ramon.
Scarlett's pale face instantly flushed red, from humiliation and anger.
She had sold several years of her creative work, earned this money through hard work day and night, just to pay Daniel back properly, to pay back the Wilson family.
Scarlett didn't want to be looked down on anymore, didn't want to be the pitiful charity case of the Wilson family, didn't want just anyone from the Wilson family, like Juno, to be able to look down on her and step on her whenever they wanted.
But all of Scarlett's struggles and efforts were dismissed as worthless by Daniel.
He didn't even ask, didn't even check—he just declared her money was dirty.
Scarlett's eyes burned hot as she glared at Daniel with resentment. "Every cent of this thirty million dollars was earned by my own ability! I have records of every transaction, clear as day. See for yourself."
Scarlett pulled out a ledger from her bag and handed it to Daniel along with the card.
Daniel's face looked terrible, still not taking it, as if frozen in place.
Scarlett raised her hand and threw them at Daniel. "Daniel, we're even now!"
The ledger hit Daniel's chest, the bank card flew up and struck Daniel's proud, cold face, then they both fell at his feet.
Daniel's expression was gloomy. He closed his eyes, his whole body radiating hostility.
Juno stared at Scarlett in disbelief. "Scarlett, are you crazy! How dare you throw things at Daniel!"
Scarlett was definitely the first person to throw a bank card at Daniel, and certainly the last.
Scarlett turned around and only said to Ramon, "Ramon, let's go."
Ramon nodded, and they both started to leave.
But as Scarlett passed by Daniel, the motionless Daniel suddenly grabbed Scarlett's wrist.
Scarlett tried to shake him off. Daniel gripped tightly, refusing to let go.
Scarlett pulled hard, completely reckless. Her wrist hurt intensely and quickly turned red.
Daniel looked down and saw this, forced to let go.
Scarlett strode away. Ramon stayed back a step, pausing beside Daniel and speaking.
"I was here to see an elder and ran into Scarlett by chance. Also, Mr. Wilson, before throwing your weight around, please understand what happened first and ask what Ms. Wilson actually did."
Daniel looked back at Ramon, their eyes meeting.
One gaze was deep and boundless, yet seemed to carry ice-cold, piercing blades.
The other carried mockery, giving no ground, openly provocative.
Between them, sparks flew as if they wanted to tear each other apart.
Daniel's thin lips curved slightly. "She's my wife. If Mr. Meza really hopes for our marriage to work, you should keep your distance."
Ramon also smiled. "The future is long. Today doesn't represent tomorrow."
Meaning that while Scarlett was Daniel's wife today, she might be Ramon's wife in the future.
Daniel understood this clearly.
Juno certainly understood too. She immediately burst into tears and grabbed Ramon's arm.
"Ramon, do you really like Scarlett?"
Juno couldn't accept it. How could Ramon, whom she liked but couldn't win over, be willing to be a third party for Scarlett, someone she completely looked down on?
This was too much of a blow for Juno.
Ramon pulled his arm away. "Ms. Wilson, whoever I like has nothing to do with you. I would never like someone who's foul-mouthed, insulting others, mean and bitter."
Ramon actually called her mean and bitter?
But Scarlett was the one who spilled coffee on her and slapped her!
How could Ramon be so biased? Juno was going crazy, tears streaming down, but Ramon had already walked out quickly.
Juno stamped her foot, then looked at Daniel pitifully. "Daniel, Scarlett was with Ramon right in front of you..."
Before Juno could finish, Daniel turned to look at her.
Daniel's gaze held no warmth, chilling to the bone. Juno immediately shut her mouth, her face looking terrible.
"What did you just do?" Daniel asked coldly.
Juno guiltily lowered her head. "I, what could I have done? I went to the hospital to find Ramon, and just happened to see Scarlett on a date with Ramon, so I questioned them a bit."
Juno nervously licked her lips. Daniel looked quite calm at the moment, but Juno felt like he was a devil from hell.
"My face hurts so much from being hit, I'm so embarrassed. I'm leaving now."
Juno wanted to leave, but Daniel raised his hand, blocking her, and instructed Tom.
"Watch her. Find out everything."
With that, Daniel bent down to pick up the ledger and bank card from the ground and strode toward the door.
Juno clenched her hands, her face looking even worse. She anxiously said to Tom blocking her way.
"I need to go to the hospital for my face, to change clothes. Move."
But Tom smiled at Juno. "Ms. Wilson, will you tell us everything yourself, or should I have the security guards watch you while I question the waitstaff?"
---
Scarlett rushed out of the café. The cold wind hit her face, making it feel icy.
She raised her hand to wipe it and realized she had been crying without knowing when.
She wiped away the tears forcefully and lifted her head to keep more tears from falling.
Ramon came out after her and silently handed her a tissue, his voice gentle.
"Go ahead and cry. You'll feel better. I'll block you—no one can see."
As he spoke, he stepped forward and unbuttoned his coat, opening it wide.
Scarlett stood in the corner, and with him blocking her like this, he created a small private space.
Scarlett had already stopped wanting to cry, but now she couldn't hold it in anymore. She crouched down, hugging her shoulders, her whole body trembling silently.
Ramon looked down at her, his expression exceptionally tender and sympathetic.
Daniel came out of the café, searching quickly. When he looked in this direction, his gaze instantly became sharp as a knife, his fingers unconsciously clenching.
The bank card snapped in his palm. From the excessive force, it cut his hand, and drops of blood splattered onto the ground.
