Chapter 89 Be Sure to Save Her Life!
When it's time to make a decision but you hesitate, it only brings trouble. Gloria knew full well that Maria's child hadn't been aborted. She didn't want to keep draining herself in this failed marriage anymore.
Let's just end it here.
James, I'm letting you go, and you let me go too.
From now on, eighteen years of feelings are wiped clean.
Gloria was ready to cut all ties.
Just as the anesthesia needle was about to pierce her skin, the door suddenly burst open, and everyone looked toward the entrance.
Caspian, usually calm and composed, showed obvious panic in his eyes, and even his voice carried some instability: "Something's happened."
Gloria's first thought was that something had happened to Vivienne.
The people connected to her were only Vivienne and James. If something had happened to James, Caspian wouldn't have this expression.
She immediately propped herself up and looked at Caspian, "What happened?"
"Vivienne fell. She's in the emergency room now."
"What!"
Gloria felt her breath catch. She scrambled down from the operating table in a panic. Because she was so nervous, her calves went weak and she almost fell.
Caspian quickly stepped forward and caught Gloria.
"Don't panic."
How could she not panic!
She was just scared about the abortion, but hearing that something happened to Vivienne, her whole world was collapsing.
Vivienne had been in danger last time and barely survived.
The doctor said she couldn't fall!
Gloria was so nervous her hands and legs went weak. She couldn't think about the surgery at all.
Seeing her anxious expression, Caspian said quietly: "Excuse me."
Without waiting for her agreement, he bent down and picked Gloria up.
Gloria leaned against Caspian's chest, her fingers clenched into fists, trembling against his sweater.
"How is Grandma?"
"We don't know the situation yet, but don't worry. Dawnrise Recovery Retreat has top experts. Vivienne pressed the alarm herself, and medical staff arrived immediately to treat her."
Joseph quickly opened the car door. Gloria didn't let go of him.
He had to bend down and carry her into the car. She was really scared, afraid that when she arrived, she'd get the bad news about Vivienne.
In this vast world, she didn't have much to hold onto. If Vivienne was gone, what would she do?
Suddenly, Gloria slapped herself hard across the face.
Caspian grabbed her hand, his eyes suddenly becoming sharp and cold. He scolded in a low voice: "What are you doing?"
"It's my fault. I should have stayed with Grandma. How could I leave her alone?"
Gloria was full of regret. During those days when Vivienne had the incident, she stayed by her bedside every night. Vivienne had recovered well and hadn't lost her ability to take care of herself.
Plus, Vivienne was strong-willed and refused to let her stay by her side. Gloria trusted the doctor's assessment.
She thought everything was foolproof, but didn't expect Vivienne to have an accident anyway.
Gloria sobbed: "Why did I come for the surgery? If I hadn't come, maybe Grandma wouldn't have had an accident. It's all my fault. I deserve to die!"
She hit her head hard with her other hand. Caspian pulled her tightly into his arms, this time with more force than ever before.
With forceful dominance, no gentlemanly behavior, no more politeness.
His hand went around the back of her head and pressed against her cheek, while his other hand locked around her waist, his hard knuckles pressing into her soft flesh.
They embraced so tightly, like an intimate couple.
Caspian's comforting voice came from above her head: "Don't blame everything on yourself. No one can predict the future."
"But I'm scared, Caspian. I'm really scared!"
Gloria choked up, her voice broken and somewhat incoherent.
Caspian's thin lips fell on her soft hair, which still carried her usual rose scent, a smell that haunted his dreams.
Since childhood, his family taught him that "a gentleman should be gentle and understand etiquette."
He should be a gentleman, a man of honor, respectful of women.
But at this moment, Caspian forgot all his upbringing. He was like a thief who finally stole the gem he'd been dreaming of day and night.
He carefully held her in his palm, feeling her radiance.
Where she didn't notice, he kissed her hair, lingering on her scent.
His low voice was hoarse with comfort: "I know, I know everything. Vivienne is so lucky, nothing will happen to her. No news right now is the best news."
Sunrise Peak.
James learned about Vivienne's accident immediately. Seeing him about to pull out the IV again, John quickly tried to stop him: "Mr. Williams, the doctor has already gone. You don't know medicine, and you're so sick yourself. Going there would be pointless."
"I can't just watch Grandma have an accident. Besides, Gloria cares about her most. Who knows how panicked she'll be right now."
James ignored his advice and casually pulled out the IV.
John helplessly pressed a cotton swab to stop the bleeding, his lowered eyes somewhat nervous. "Mrs. Williams, she..."
James grabbed his clothes. "What about her? Is she scared?"
"She's not in her room. Actually, she shouldn't be in the retreat at all."
James paused while putting on his clothes. Gloria cared most about Vivienne. Could she have abandoned even Vivienne just to avoid him?
"Find a way to contact her. I'm going to check on Grandma."
James couldn't worry about where Gloria was.
Setting aside his relationship with Gloria, Vivienne was an elder who watched him grow up. He respected her very much.
He had to save Vivienne!
James didn't bother washing his face or shaving, and rushed into the wind and snow.
John sighed helplessly: "Mr. Williams! At least wear more clothes, take an umbrella!"
James's quickly departing figure was his only answer.
He ran all the way to the emergency room and immediately learned about the situation.
"Mr. Williams, when we got to Vivienne, she couldn't control her hands and feet anymore. It might be brain nerve disorder, or maybe a brain hemorrhage. Either way, you need to be mentally prepared."
Vivienne had been recovering well these past few days. How could this suddenly happen?
He suppressed his panic and said seriously: "Please, you must save her life."
Just then, the attending doctor came out. "Patient's family, the patient's condition is critical. Brain hemorrhage. She needs immediate surgery."
"Then do the surgery."
"Don't rush to decide. The patient is very old and just had heart surgery recently. If we do a craniotomy now, the chances of success aren't high. Even if the surgery succeeds, she won't be able to return to her previous state. She might even have mental confusion, dementia, etc."
With each sentence the doctor said, James's heart sank lower.
"What if we don't do the surgery?"
"If she can't make it through, you'll only need to prepare for the funeral. Even if she does make it, there's a high probability she'll become a vegetable."
James clenched his fingers. No matter which choice he made, Vivienne couldn't go back to how she was.
He answered without hesitation: "Do the surgery. Doctor, please, you must save her!"
"Alright, come sign with me."
James signed a bunch of papers in one go. All he could think about was how sad Gloria would be if she knew about Vivienne's condition.
After the surgery started, Gloria finally arrived late.
The person who came with her was Caspian.
Before James could think much about it, his gaze fell on Gloria, who was wearing Caspian's coat. She was wearing surgical scrubs!
