Chapter 102 Actively Embracing Caspian
The next day, the sky cleared up.
After the anxiety in her heart disappeared, Gloria had a good night's sleep for the first time in ages.
The electric curtains were half open. Outside, the sun was shining brightly. The heavy snow had stopped, and fluffy white snow still piled on the treetops.
Gloria freshened up, getting ready to visit Vivienne.
The door opened, and a man walked toward her against the light.
Caspian had changed into a dark gray coat. His figure was tall and lean, and his voice was slow and deep: "You're up?"
"Yeah, did you sleep well last night?"
He set down some fresh fruit and casually handed Gloria a shopping bag, answering offhandedly: "Not bad."
Gloria looked down and saw vitamins, calcium tablets, and folic acid supplements for pregnant women.
Gloria's hand froze on the bag. She hadn't expected him to be so thoughtful. "Thank you."
"Since you've decided to keep the babies, you need to take good care of yourself. I just checked on Vivienne. Her condition has stabilized. Even though she can't remember things and is carefree, maybe that's not such a bad thing for her."
"Okay."
Gloria nodded firmly. Watching a few birds searching for food in the snow, she said quietly: "We all need to turn the page and move forward. I'm just worried something might happen in these last few days."
James's behavior last night had made her uneasy. She was afraid of unexpected changes.
Caspian had breakfast prepared, saying word by word: "Nothing will happen. He's flying abroad on business today."
Gloria's head snapped up, meeting Caspian's excessively calm eyes.
Neither sad nor happy, yet like a god who controlled everything.
Gloria vaguely felt something wasn't quite right, but she couldn't figure out what.
He was so eager for her to keep these two children—it didn't look like the behavior of someone who would like her.
While Gloria's thoughts wandered, Joseph brought in breakfast.
Gloria didn't have much appetite. There were many types of breakfast foods, all meant to encourage her to eat more.
Her morning sickness had improved a lot these past two days, and her appetite was better than before.
For the sake of the babies, she tried to eat as much as possible.
After the meal, she stayed in the hospital room with Vivienne. Vivienne was always smiling, looking very kind, holding her hand and asking repeatedly: "Gloria, when are we leaving this place?"
Her eyes were full of hope for the future. Gloria smiled: "Don't rush. You need to rest for a few days first, or the long journey will be too hard on you."
"Then I'll listen to you."
Gloria touched her cheek. "In a few days, I have a show to attend. If you don't see me, don't worry. I'll be back in a day or two."
Originally, she hadn't wanted to participate—at worst, she'd just pay the penalty fee.
But Alphonse kept persuading her, and finally they agreed she would only participate in the first episode as the opening guest to boost the show's popularity.
After filming this variety show, she could get her divorce decree.
Then there would be nothing and no one left in Silverlake Springs to hold her back. She would take Vivienne to an island to wait for the babies to be born.
It really turned out as Caspian had said—James went abroad that very day.
Over the next few days, her life was peaceful and warm. Under her careful care, Vivienne got better day by day.
And her pale face finally regained its color, no longer suffering from lack of sleep.
James sent her messages every day, as if they weren't divorced.
He shared local food and beautiful scenery.
Even though she never responded, he kept sending them.
He was making one last attempt to hold on.
But James, it was already too late.
The day before filming, Gloria had to go to the hospital for a prenatal checkup.
Next to the familiar Maybach stood a man in black, tall and slender. He was looking up at something, his handsome face exposed to the sunlight, which cast a golden glow over him.
Caspian politely opened the car door for her. Gloria felt a bit embarrassed: "Actually, you didn't need to pick me up. I..."
"It's fine, I'm not busy."
Joseph, standing nearby, was speechless. During these days when they hadn't come to see Gloria, he'd been working overtime with Caspian every single day!
They'd been flying back and forth between Silverlake Springs and Crystalbrook, and had just come straight from the airport. They'd even eaten lunch on the plane.
But to Gloria, it became a casual "not busy."
Still, chasing someone was like negotiating a deal—you had to invest a lot of effort to profit in the future.
The only problem was that the Rivers family didn't yet know that their always proper Caspian had fallen for a divorced Best Actress.
Once exposed, the Rivers family's reputation would be affected.
At the hospital.
This time Caspian waited outside the door. When it opened, Gloria slowly walked out.
Afraid James might find the records, she hadn't registered or printed anything. The doctor deleted all the data after examining her, leaving no trace whatsoever.
Caspian stepped forward and asked: "How was it?"
A cheerful smile spread across Gloria's face.
"The babies are developing well. Both of them have heartbeats and embryos."
Caspian also breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good."
Gloria rushed toward him, happy tears flowing from the corners of her eyes. "Thank you for helping me make the right choice. I'm so glad I kept them. If you don't mind, after the babies are born, would you be their godfather?"
The moment she hugged him, Caspian was stunned. The happiness came so suddenly he forgot to react.
Although it was just a grateful friend's embrace, Caspian's heart raced.
He could smell the fresh scent in her hair, like roses planted by a witch. Even knowing it would drag him into the mire, he fell in without caring about the consequences.
To live for her, to die for her—he was willing.
He slowly reached out his hand, politely putting his arm around her shoulder and patting it gently, his voice low, husky, and magnetic. "Okay."
From an angle Gloria couldn't see, those indifferent eyes showed intense possessiveness.
What he wanted was definitely not to become the children's godfather.
