Chapter 84 84
"Please, can we talk about something else and not that?" Nathan asked. After Brooke began to explain how they are going to set the co-parenting thing together.
"like what?” Brooke asked with her furrowed brows. “I thought we were here to talk about Liam? What then do you have to say-"
Before she could complete her statement, Nathan got up from where he was sitting. He walked to her and the next thing, he was kneeling in front of her.
"What is all this?" She asked. Shocked from his sudden action.
"Bee, I feel this is the right opportunity I have. We can finish our talk now." Nathan said.
"What is happening? What are you talking about." Brooke asked, utterly confused.
"Bee, I know I made some horrible decisions in the past. I also know it affected our relationship and also how you felt about us. But I have learnt my lesson the hard way." Nathan began, his hands clamped together as he raised them towards her. "Please find it in you to forgive me for my wrong doings. I know I wronged you and hurt you in the process. But I am so sorry."
"I regretted it all and I realized that I love you, Bee. I love you so much." He added. He looked into her eyes, trying to show her his sincerity.
"I have gone on for years hating myself for what I did to you. I have been longing for you and I kept praying to the heavens to return you to me."
"Bee, I beg you to feel the sincerity in my heart and words." He then reached for her hand.
Brooke tried pulling away but Nathan refused to let go. He placed the hand on his chest . "This should let you know if I am lying on any of the words I spoke."
"I am truly sorry for the pain I caused you, Bee. I am sorry. I am sorry. I will continue to apologize. I won't get tired, until you find it in your heart to forgive me. I know I have wronged you in a lot of ways. But I am sorry, Bee."
Still holding her hand over his chest, he added. "I hope someday, you will find it in your heart to forgive me."
Brooke looked Nathan in the eyes before looking away. She still can't believe this was the same man she sacrificed everything for in the past. Then, all she got was a series of rejection. But now, here he was. On his knees asking for her forgiveness.
The fact that he confessed to loving her was still sinking in. She still hasn't settled that in her head. Now here he is again. She could feel how the rate of his heart beat changed when he confessed his love again. He is clearly sincere with his words. She wondered if there was something she missed. Whatever that is, made the present Nathan complete opposite of the one she left in Silverbrook.
Unfortunately, all that doesn't matter to her anymore. As Nathan is a completely different person from eight years ago, so was she. She has also changed.
"Nathan, please stop. Stop all these." She said while looking away from him. "Please, get up. This looks strange." She added.
Nathan did not listen to her but continued. "Please Bee, I need to know how you feel about all this. You probably hate me right now." He said what he thinks at the moment. "But I'd like to think you don't hate me as much as you did before knowing the whole truth." He added.
"Nathan, please get up." She requested it again, looking away from him. "I need space."
This time around, Nathan obliged. He believes that might make her say what was on her mind. He finally released her hand and got up. He went back to the place he was sitting earlier.
Brooke looked a bit relaxed then. She left out a breath and clenched her fist. She is currently feeling a bit sweaty. She was nervous at that moment. "It has been almost nine years, Nathan. I have put it all behind. I am past the stage of hating or holding grudges. I have moved on."
"If I were in your place, I would want you to forgive me as well. Nobody's perfect." She added. At that moment, he noticed Nathan became a bit more relaxed.
She felt guilty from her words. The way he reacted was as if she led him on. "What I am trying to say here is, I played my part too. Then, I knew you were not in love with me but I agreed to the marriage anyway. If I had said no, the marriage wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't have been in a situation of getting divorced."
A smile then crept on her face. "But that means I wouldn't have had Liam. He is the good thing that came out of our one sided love marriage. So I believe everything happens for a reason. Now Liam is my life."
"So, for the sake of Liam myself, I forgive you. Now we can act on the co-parenting thing in peace. You will play your fatherly role for Liam."
Nathan nodded. There was a sight of hope in his eyes. But what Brooke said next, made him cringe.
"However, forgiving doesn't mean I will ever forget. I am not the same Brooke you used to know. The one that kept following you around with the hope that one day, you would see me as someone that loved you. It is all in the past. She is gone forever."
"All that is left now is us co-parenting Liam. There would never be anything between us." Brooke clarified.
"And please, stop saying you love me. I don't want your love anymore and I cannot love you ever again. Don't try to pursue those feelings of yours. I have to warn you that you will only get hurt."
Nathan felt like he swallowed a stone. He felt a lump in his throat that he couldn't swallow down. He froze in his stance and couldn't move a muscle. Brooke's words stabbed him in his heart.
'Stop saying you love me.'
'I don't want to love you.'
'I can't love you ever again.'
Her words kept echoing in his head.
