Chapter 66 66

Chapter 66 66
Marise quickly walked towards Brooke when she came out of the surgery room. Concern was laced on her face as she did. "Sweetie, How did it go?" She asked. "Did it go well? Will he be alright?" Worry laced in her voice.

Brooke put a hand on Marise's shoulder with a smile on her face. "It went well, Aunty. My uncle is going to be fine."

"Oh thank goodness. Thank you my dear child." Marise said with tearful eyes. She hugged Brooke.

"It's fine, Aunty. He will be moved to the ICU soon." Brooke said.

She glanced at Nathan's way, who is also standing close to them. He gave her a nod and a small smile. Brooke only gave a nod in return.

"We can go to the ICU together. He is still sleeping though from the anesthesia." Brooke offered.

Brooke observed Robert for another hour in the ICU. He seems to be responding well. They stayed there together with Marise.

"Aunty, would you like to have lunch with me?" Brooke offered.

"Oh honey, I don't want to leave your uncle's side. I also had something to eat earlier." Marise said. "Although, Nathan has not had anything since morning. Why don't you go and have something to eat together?"

Brooke was hesitant. She was going to have a talk with him anyways, but not over lunch.

"You know, just as friends. For the sake of old times?" Marise spoke in a soft voice. "Nathan has something he wants to talk to you about." She added.

Brooke sighed. She could not say no to Aunt Marise. "We were meant to have a talk anyway."

"Good. Then you can do that now, over lunch." Marise suggested with a smile.

Brooke was about to leave but stopped again. "Umm... Aunty Marise, I have been meaning to ask." She said with hesitation in her voice. "Emm.... Is Nathan with Keren? I noticed she didn't show up since..... You came-"

"Oh, that is also part of what he wants to talk to you about." Marise interrupted. "Just please listen to him. Even though it might be too late for him now, at least you should hear him out. I know you have Liam now."

Brooke was surprised to hear that from Marise. So Nathan has already spoken to his mother about Liam. She wondered what he had already done so soon. But she also took part in that. Because she let him believe what he was thinking about Liam.

"Ok, Aunty, I will speak with Nathan." Brooke said with a small smile. She didn't miss the look of pity on Marise's face.

Brooke left the ICU. She immediately spotted Nathan in the waiting area. He was on a call but his attention was on the door. When he saw her, he immediately ended the call and walked to her.

"Hi, Doctor Bee-" Nathan began but Brooke interrupted.

"I need to change out of this and then we can talk." Brooke said and began to walk in the direction of her office.

Moments later, the two left the hospital in uttermost silence. They got to a restaurant that is close to the hospital and settled on a round table.

Nathan ordered some of Brooke's favorite dishes.

She was surprised to see that he still remembered. Even though he did not show any interest in them in their years of marriage and then all the years they have been apart.

They were waiting for their food when Brooke's eyes fell on his wedding ring again. "Are you guys finally married?" She went straight to the point. "I mean, Keren. Are you two married? I couldn't help but notice your wedding ring." She added, looking at his hand with the ring on.

"No I didn't. I never had the intention of marrying her." Nathan said.

"So.... You married someone else?" Brooke asked. Why else could be his reason for wearing a wedding ring if he wasn't married?

"No. I did not get married." Nathan said again. He reached for his inner pocket while Brooke asked again.

"Then why do you have a wedding ring on?"

Nathan brought out a similar ring on a chain. He took his own off and handed them both to Brooke. She reluctantly accepted them.

"These are our wedding rings. I never took mine off and I always had yours on me." Nathan revealed.

Brooke accepted them and took a close look. She sees the rings engraving but she did all she could to maintain an emotionless face. She then gave them back.

"We have been divorced for years now. Why do you still wear your ring?" She asked.

"Because, I realized my mistake when it was too late. I regretted our divorce, Bee. I should have never asked for one in the first place." Nathan spoke with regret laced in his voice. He put back his ring and returned Brooke's into his inner pocket.

Nathan felt like he might have a chance with Brooke. The way she was quick to notice that he had a wedding ring on. 'This is a good sign.' he thought to himself.

"What about Keren?" Brooke asked.

Nathan shook his head. "I might have intended to marry Keren at first. But when I returned to Silverbrook and we got married, it changed that thought."

Nathan took a deep breath before he carried on. "With all that happened back then, I felt sorry for her. I also felt responsible for all that happened to her, since it was because of me she came to Silverbrook."

"That was why I took it upon myself to ease some things for her. Like a place to stay and a job but nothing more. But I was wrong to not make you my priority back then. I was wrong to ignore your presence as my wife." Nathan shook his head, recalling what he went through after Brooke was gone.

"Your complete silence made me realize how much I missed you. At the time, I wasn't aware that you had left the city."

Brooke looked away. She recalled that not long after she left, she found out Keren was living in their villa. "You missed me!? Really? That did not stop you from bringing her to our matrimonial home." She pointed out.
