Chapter 51 51
Brooke and Heath had just walked into Liam’s room. Liam lead the way and say on his bed. A smile was evident on his face. He was clearly happy to have his mother with him at the time.
"Mommy, can you tuck me in for the night, please?" Asked in a soft voice, looking at his mother with puppy eyes. He was down with the idea of his mother doing it that night, since she was almost always never around.
"Sure, sweetie." Brooke answered with a smile.
"Uncle Ryan, before you go. Can I please borrow your phone? I want to show mommy the game I downloaded last time." Liam said.
"Sure, Champ." Ryan answered as he reached for his phone in his pocket and unlocked it. He then handed it to Liam.
Liam accepted the phone and tapped on it before turning the screen to his mother. "Mommy, I want this game installed on my tablet, please."
"Science facts, huh." Brooke said with a smile. "That is an excellent choice. It would widen your knowledge. I will install it for you. Now give your uncle back his phone." She instructed.
Brooke has parental control on Liam's tablet. To install a new app, there is a passcode required, which Brooke kept to herself alone.
Liam began to rejoice. "Yay! Thank you, mommy." He was rejoicing that he carelessly tried to return Ryan's phone by throwing it to him. "Uncle Ryan, catch."
Unfortunately, Lima did not throw the phone far enough for Ryan to catch. Instead, the phone fell right into the water pitcher that was on the table. They all watched in horror as the phone sank to the bottom. It happened so fast that none of them could react quickly.
Ryan quickly reached for the phone as he almost cursed. But remembering Liam was present, he stopped himself.
"Oh my goodness, Lima." Brooke exclaimed.
"I am sorry, Mommy. I am sorry Uncle Ryan." Liam spoke in a shaky voice.
Brooke sent for the maid to come with a hand dryer and towel. Ryan quickly opens the phone to let out the water trapped in it.
They used the hand dryer and towel to dry it off. But when they tried to do it. It didn't start. Ryan gave up but Brooke kept trying.
"It's of no use, Bee. It is dead and so am i." Ryan exclaimed.
"I am so sorry, Uncle Ryan. I didn't mean for that to happen." A teary eyed Liam spoke. He was clearly feeling regretful.
"It's alright, Champ." Ryan patted on Liam's shoulder. "It's just a phone. I can easily get a new one." He smiled at Liam.
Ryan tried to hide that he was disturbed at what happened. This was because he was traveling to another continent the very next day. He has some important information that he cannot get back anytime soon.
"Are - Are you sure?" Liam asked. Looking into Ryan's eyes to make sure what he was saying is true.
"Positive." Ryan said. He roughed Liam's hair and continued. "I will just get a new one. It is that simple. Just that I won't be available for a day."
"Say goodnight to your uncle and go to your room. I will be there shortly." Brooke instructed her son. Liam said goodnight to Ryan and gave him a hug before retreating back to his bedroom.
Brooke walked Ryan to his car to see him off.
"I am sorry, Ryan, for what happened." Brooke said with regret. "This is not the time for 'I told you so,' but I did tell you to get another phone. Staying with one phone in your kind of line of business is quite risky." She said,
"Considering what happened now, I will. I have been busy with travels that I tend to forget. I will get a temporary one from the hotel. Then I will ask my assistant and request for a business phone." Ryan said.
"Once again, I am so sorry for what happened." Brooke said.
"You have nothing to worry about. When you look at the situation from the bright side, I will have a good night's rest. I would not be disturbed." Ryan said. "I have Liam to thank for that."
Brooke chuckled lightly. One thing she never gets bored of, was Ryan's sense of humor. He always finds a way to lighten the mood in a bad situation.
"Goodbye Bee. I will see you guys in a month or two." Ryan said after settling in his car. He drove off after that.
Meanwhile, back in Silverbrook, Nathan is in the office, burying himself in some work as usual. He has made it a habit to work without taking any day off, not even weekends. It could be said that he has become a workaholic. All he wants to do is to work and work until he feels nothing at all. Because when he is not working, the feelings that begin to arise hurts him a lot. It also made him restless.
Today there was no difference. Just that he extended the overtime to some of his executives. They had to stay back to get some work done.
"Sir, your last appointment for the day with Miss Dale. The new finance manager for the Asian project is here." Nathan's assistant reported.
Nathan groaned and robbed his face back and forth. "Where is her assistant? Didn't you give her my message to send her assistant instead?" He asked with irritation.
Nathan might be going through a lot. But it was so unlike him to just get upset. But at that moment, this new employee is trying to make him angry. She is trying to do what no one else dared to do in the company.
"I did, sir, several times. But she was so persistent. She claims she has to do it by herself because she wants accuracy in her report. She claimed that is how she has been doing her work with other agencies before this one." The assistant explained. He knows how his boss takes his number one rule very seriously. He honestly tried to make the new accounts manager understand the situation. That Nathan would not entertain her presence. But she refused to listen.
"Fine. If she insists on doing it herself, tell her to do it. But one more thing. I don't want her inside my office. She has to do that from the door." Nathan instructed.
"Yes, sir." The assistant said before leaving. He is relieved at least his boss has approved of listening to the lady, even if it was at the door.
