Chapter 41 41
“It was absolutely wrong of me to ask for a divorce. I know that now. I need her to know it too. Please Nicole, tell me. Where is Brooke?"
Nichole was taken aback by Nathan's words. She wasn't expecting to hear that from him. Her face softened for a mere second. But she was quick to mast it up with anger.
"Really, Nathan? First, you divorce her. Now you are talking about how you have missed her." She gave a chuckle. "Well.... Too bad for you, Bee doesn't miss you. You have to learn to leave with the decision you have made."
"Please tell me where she is. I want to hear that from her." Nathan pleaded.
"And what about your lover, Jenny? Was she not the one you chose over Bee? Was Bee not the unwanted wife that stood in your way?" Nicole asked. "Let me guess, it didn't go as planned and now, you want your second choice. Bee cannot be a second choice. She was the best you could have. But you failed to see that. Eligible bachelors of Silverbrook were jealous of your relationship with Bee. They all wanted her."
"Maybe it is because you had her that you didn't value her. You were lucky to have Bee, as a wife, Nathan." Nicole clarified.
"I know Nicole. I know I fucked up. I don't deserve her but the truth is, I never cheated on Bee with Nicole or any other girl." Nathan said. "The situation is more complicated than that." He added. Recalling how things became out of hand for him. How Jenifer turned out to be Georgina. How she had set different traps through her manipulations. But now was not the time for that story. He just wants to know where Brooke is.
Nicole scoffed and acted to walk past Nathan. He was quick to block her passage. If he wants more information, maybe he has to give her a good reason for that.
"Just please hear me out. My reason was not just about Jenny."
Nichole raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms on her chest. "Oh yeah?"
"I know I let my ego have the best of me. But I felt suffocated in a forced marriage. I wasn't ready for that but my father forced me into a position that I was left with with no choice. So it made me feel tied down."
"All I could think of was my freedom. I thought that If I became free from forced marriage , I would be content and happy. But I am feeling quite the opposite of that. I am fuking miserable. I really miss Bee." Nathan went closer and reached for Nicole's hand, seeing how his words got to her.
Nicole was quick to take a step back and shook her head. "I- I don't know where she is-"
"I don't believe you, Nicole. You are her best friend. You must know."
What Nathan did next cut Nicole by surprise. Nathan wasn't down on both his knees.
"I know you know where Brooke is. Please, Nicole, tell me. I really need to talk to her. I want to let her know I am sorry for the mistake I made. I was wrong to let her out of my life."
"Nathan, what are you doing?" Nicole asked. "Get up. Please get up. Why do you decide to realize that now? It is already too late." She said the last part in a low voice. "I am sorry Nathan. I have no idea where Bee is."
"Please, Nicole." Nathan succeeded in holding Nicole's hand this time around. "I am not asking as Nathan you knew. I am asking as a poor victim, who realized his mistake. We are all not perfect and I am no exception. I beg of you, Nicole." Nathan added.
"I - I love Bee. I know that now. It might have taken me to lose her before I realized that. But I do."
"Give me a chance to prove that."
Nicole:"........"
Nathan let out a loud sigh and combs his hair with his fingers. "If you won't tell me where she is, you can at least deliver my message to her. Please, Nicole. You are the only connection I have to her."
Nicole felt bad for Nathan. He seemed to be honest about his words of confession. At the same time, she could not betray the trust Doctor Turner and his family have in her.
"Doctor Turner left with his family without saying where they are moving to. They don't have the intention of ever coming back to Silverbrook. I am really sorry but I can't help you."
Nicole was about to walk away but stopped.
"Bee has moved on. She believes you have also moved on. So please do yourself that favor and move on." She ended and resumed her steps.
When she was out on the open street, she turned to look at Nathan. He was still in the kneeling position. His head bowed down, clearly in disappointment and defeat.
She should not feel sorry for Nathan. But she clearly does. He made Brooke go through a lot. She is still going through stuff because of him. She is pregnant with his child.
"I should tell Bee about this." Nicole concluded as she walked away.
Later that day, Nicole called Brooke's cell phone. But she did not pick. She called twice but no answer. So she gave it time.
After sometime, she called again but still no response and neither did Brooke call her back. Nicole decided to call the landline of the Turners' new home.
Doctor Turner was the one who answered that call.
"Good day, Doctor Turner. Is Bee home?" Nicole asked
"Yes, Nicole. But she is busy studying for her exams. Can I take the message for her?" Jack offered.
Nicole thought about how Doctor Turner was going to take Nathan's news. He was the one that made Nicole and Kate promise never to tell Nathan where his daughter is. Now, she brought disturbing information to him. He might not take it lightly.
Nicole was quiet for some time. Jack had to speak again because he thought they were cut off.
"Sorry, I am still here, Doctor Turner." Nicole confirmed.
"It's- it's uhh... About Nathan."
