Chapter 40 40
Brooke was a bit concerned about what the situation might be for the urgency. She wondered why all of a sudden Rayan needed to leave. "Why do you need to go back to Silverbrook all of a sudden?"She asked
"Not right away. I need to go to Carefree town first, before going back to Silverbrook." Ryan spoke. He could see the curiosity in Brooke's eye because he was sure she saw Nathan's name on his phone when it rang.
"Nathan won the bid on the Carefree national park." He added. At least the information has nothing to do with his personal life that Brooke didn't want to hear of.
"Oh. That means he might buy the children's hospital in Carefree." Brooke said.
"He is. This is so far his biggest humanitarian project." Ryan said.
Brooke gave a sad smile. "I might hate Nathan now for breaking my heart. But I have to admit. He is such a philanthropist."
"That, he is." Ryan agreed with her.
This project is something that Nathan kept talking about. He had a huge plan for it and kept pursuing his interest. Brooke respected him for that. They might have their personal issues, but he was a good person with a kind heart.
"You are also generous, Ryan. You offered health insurance to those poor children in Carefree town,"Brooke added.
The two got up and began to walk to the care.
"Thank you for thinking of me that way." Ryan said. "But Nathan really took great business risks. But it was for the children's sake and charity. I am glad it is all working out for him."
They got to the car and Ryan started the engine.
"Thinking I am generous, Bee? We should talk more about humanitarian projects. You might just fall in love with me. You never know." Ryan spoke, raising his shoulder and dropping them.
Brooke chuckled. "Oh wow! I wasn't expecting that." She said through laughs.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Ryan asked after he began to move on the road.
"Sure. What is it?" Brooke asked as she settled her emotions.
"I always thought single moms were hot." Ryan said with a wink.
Brooke burst out laughing again. "Alright playboy. You can't get through me with your playboy tricks." She assured him.
"But I did." Ryan objected.
"Not a chance, Ryan."
"I really did, Bee. My aim was to get you to laugh out loud. Which you did." Ryan said with a smirk of satisfaction.
"Alright, you got me there." Brooke admitted with a smile.
In Silverbrook, Mr and Mrs Leo are in the car heading to the airport together with Nathan.
"Do we really have to go, Nathan?" Robert asked his son.
"Yes of course, Robert. Our son wants us to be part of what he is planning for Carefree town." Marise answered.
The Leo's family are going to Carefree town. He needed to complete the formalities of the recent property Nathan had bought.
"I want you both to be part of everything I do. I have made decisions and choices on my own that are now hunting me. I am trying to avoid any more mistakes." Nathan spoke in a lifeless tone.
Nathan's parents know what he was indirectly referring to. They felt sorry for him. But to some extent, he bought it upon himself. So he has to learn his lesson from his mistake.
"Alright then." Robert said with a nod.
Nathan turned his attention back to the work he was doing on his laptop. With everything that is happening in his life, he is still the CEO of the family business. He has to work, no matter what.
However, Nathan has let his beard grow. The last time he had a haircut and a shave, was when he went to see Brooke. He looks dull and unhappy and it is clear he is not getting enough sleep.
He finished reading an email and then looked up from the laptop. Suddenly, he noticed a lady passing by, who he recognised.
"Isn't that-" Nathan questioned himself as he pointed towards the lady. "Driver, pull over." He instructed.
Mrs and Mrs Leo looked at the direction Nathan was pointing at. Before they could ask any question, Nathan hurried out of the car.
He hasted his steps and began to call after the lady.
"Nicole..... Nicole...hold on. I need to talk to you. It's very important." Nathan said.
Nicole heard her name called. She turned to see who was calling out to her. Her eyes grew wide when she realized it was Nathan. She immediately sprang in another direction, away from him.
"What the...." Nathan was shocked. "Nicole, stop!" He called out and went after her. "Please stop. I just want to talk."
Nicole did not listen. She continued to run but Nathan didn't give up, he continued to follow her. Soon, she ran out of breath and had to stop. She put her hand on her chest trying to steady her breath.
"What do you want, Nathan?" She asked in a stern tone. She is now cornered in a valley and doesn't have much choice.
Nathan was also out of breath for chasing after Nicole."Please. Where is she? Where is Bee?" He asked. "I really need to know."
Nicole's breath is getting steady now. "Why do you care where Bee is? You are divorced, remember?" She reminded him.
Nathan sighed. "I just..... It's important I see her. I want to talk to her-"
"Like I said. You guys are divorced now. You have gotten what you want. The least you can do now is to let Bee have a life, without you interfering. You have done more than enough." Nicole barked at him.
"You don't understand, Nicole. I miss her. I miss her so much and I want her to know that. I miss her beautiful face. I miss the smile she has on her face when I walk into the room. I miss her talks and her cooking-" Nathan sighed and robbed his hair. "I miss her so much and I want her to know that."
Nichole was taken aback by Nathan's words. She wasn't expecting to hear that from him. Nathan continued.
"And worst of all, I was wrong to ask for a divorce. I know that now. I need her to know it too. Please Nicole, tell me. Where is Brooke?"
Nicole's face softens.
