Chapter 26 26
Everyone saw what happened. Keren couldn't say it was an accident. She pushed Brooke into the middle of the road while the school bus was coming. Brooke took a few steps back but didn't fall down. Then the bus brushed against her before it stopped suddenly.
Brooke fell to the ground.
It was clear Keren did it on purpose.
Nathan also saw everything. He ran to Brooke and helped her up.
"What is wrong with you, Georgie?" Nathan yelled at Keren. "You just pushed her in front of a moving bus. Are you trying to kill her?"
Nathan didn't wait for an answer. He walked away after picking Brooke up and wrapped in his arms.
After that day, Nathan made sure Georgie was kicked out of school. He also convinced his father to stop doing business with the Parks family. He said their daughter tried to kill Brooke. All of this forced the Parks family to leave Silverbrook.
That is why Keren felt Brooke ruined her life. She hated Brooke for it. She especially hated that Brooke stood between her and Nathan.
She had many surgeries to make her face look like Brooke's. She used her family's money. Her father helped her change her name from Georgina Parks to Keren Williams.
End of flashback
"We have to leave now! With your hair changed and the hoodie, we might escape the city." Evan said to his daughter as they got in the car and he started driving.
Georgina sat in the back seat. Her hair was no longer blonde and long. It was now red and short. She wore sunglasses, even though it was the middle of the night.
They reached the first checkpoint. An officer came over and asked them to roll down the back window. He asked for their ID cards.
"Why a school ID card? She doesn't look like she's in college anymore." The policeman said after looking at the cards.
"Oh, she lost her bag at the airport a few days ago. But we plan to get a new one soon." Evan spoke quickly with a smile.
The officer didn't pay much attention to Georgie. He walked back to his car to check their ID cards. He spoke into the radio. But Evan and Georgie couldn't hear what he said because he was too far away.
"See? I knew this was our only chance and it seems to be working." Evan said, looking at Georgina in the mirror.
"Your plan was good, dad." Georgina said.
The policeman walked back to the car and handed them the ID cards.
"So, Mr Parks, where are you going at this time of night?" The policeman asked.
"Oh, just to the next state. We have a family gathering and we need to be there on time tomorrow." Evan explained.
The policeman's partner came over and called him aside. He said something to him and then he walked back to them.
"You may leave. Drive safe." He said with a blank face.
"Thank you, officer." Evan said before starting the car again and driving off.
"Oh my God! I can't believe this is working." Georgina said in shock as they drove away.
Georgie let out a long breath. "This is great. We will finally get out of Silverbrook without being caught. I never thought it would be this easy."
"This means Matt didn't figure us out when he talked to you." She said to her father. "If he did, he would tell Nathan and that would make it easier for him to find us."
"Luckily, we escaped that." Evan said.
Georgina was so scared they would get caught. She knew Nathan did everything carefully. He would search every corner of the city to find them. Even though she was surprised he didn't find them, she felt relieved.
'I will come back for you, my Nathan. I am not giving up on us. Maybe next time, I won't include my father in my plans. That might work better.' Georgina thought to herself as she looked out the window.
They were now halfway through the city. They could see another checkpoint ahead. This time, they felt more confident than before.
"Heads up." Evan said as they got closer.
At that moment, they saw two more private cars approaching. They didn't think anything of it because they were also private cars. They thought those cars were also being checked.
The police officer walked to the car and knocked lightly on the window. Evan rolled the window down.
"Hello officer." Evan said with confidence.
"Mr Parks, there is someone here to see you. Can you and your daughter step out of the car?" The officer said directly.
The way the man got straight to the point made Georgina's heart skip a beat and then start racing. The officer didn't even ask for their ID cards. Instead, he called her father by his name and knew she was his daughter.
And who was the person that wanted to meet her and her father?
"Officer, is something wrong?" Evan asked.
At the same time, Georgina looked behind to see who wanted to meet them. She saw two people getting out of the private car behind them.
"Please step out of the vehicle, sir." The officer repeated without answering Evan's question.
All this time, Georgina was trying to hide her face from the officer while she was still in the car. But that would be hard once she stepped out.
The officer repeated himself again. This time, he was more serious. That forced both of them to step out and stand by their car.
Evan kept asking the officer to tell him what he did wrong. While Georgina was busy pulling her hood to cover her face more.
"Good evening, Mr Parks. It's been a while." One of the men who walked up to them spoke in a cold voice.
