Chapter 255
Someone spoke up, and the other servants chimed in one after another.
"That's right. I was the one who bandaged his wound. The flesh was curled back—you could tell it was sliced by a sharp weapon."
"I didn't see it myself, but after Mr. Donovan Percy left, Ms. Wipere made excuses to send away the servants guarding the door. At first, we didn't think much of it, but after hearing Mrs. Alicia Percy was injured, we found it very suspicious."
"I was guarding the door at the time. Originally, I refused to leave, but Ms. Wipere got very angry and said if I dared disobey her, she'd have Mr. Donovan Percy fire me. I had no choice but to retreat to the second floor."
One after the other, they spoke up, trying to solidify the charges against me.
I kept shaking my head, finally interrupting directly. "You've said so much, but only one person claims to have seen me hurt Mrs. Alicia Percy with their own eyes. Everyone else heard about it secondhand. This proves nothing!"
David countered coldly, "One eyewitness isn't enough? Must you make this known throughout the city and drag the Percy family's reputation through the mud before you're satisfied?"
I wanted to argue back, but Leopold held me back.
He looked at David coldly. "Uncle David, trying to convict someone with a single witness is rather far-fetched."
David sneered, as if deliberately waiting for him to say that. "Who says I only have one witness testimony?"
My heart tightened inexplicably.
Did he have more direct evidence?
The next second, Orion in overalls was escorted out by a bodyguard.
His chubby little face was full of fear and anxiety.
When he looked at me, the terror in his eyes nearly spilled over.
"Daddy, I'm scared." He rushed over, trying to hug Leopold's leg.
But Leopold stepped back first, maintaining distance.
Orion froze, his big eyes immediately turning red.
"Orion, come here to me." David changed from his earlier mockery to a smiling tone as he spoke to Orion.
Orion obediently went over.
"Dad, didn't Grandpa tell you not to interfere in Leopold's affairs? Why are you involving this child..."
Before Amelia could finish, David cut her off coldly. "My business isn't yours to manage. If you don't shut up, I'll teach you some manners right here!"
Amelia wanted to say more, but she was stopped by Harper. "Forget it. Don't argue with your father."
Amelia had to remain silent.
David forced a smile and looked at Orion. "Orion, tell me—what did you see before?"
I could hardly believe it. Had Orion been at the scene, too?
What exactly had he seen?
Orion looked at me and shook his head fearfully.
David coaxed him again, promising he wouldn't let him be in any danger.
Only then did Orion say in a low voice, "I heard Great-grandmother was sick and really wanted to see her, so I went to her room. When I got there, I saw this woman talking to Great-grandmother, but... but..."
His tone suddenly became hesitant.
A flash of impatience crossed David's eyes, but he still encouraged him to continue. "Orion can't be a lying child, or everyone will dislike you."
Orion's little face immediately tensed. He quickly said, "I don't lie. I'm a good boy."
David said with satisfaction, "Then continue."
"Uncle David, you're leading the child," Leopold reminded coldly.
David was unconcerned. "I'm just asking him to tell the truth."
"Daddy." Orion looked up at Leopold pleadingly. "I saw this woman stab Great-grandmother with a knife. Great-grandmother tried to push her away, but she couldn't. Great-grandmother was in so much pain..."
"Lies!" Leopold refuted him without hesitation.
Orion was frightened by Leopold's expression. His little mouth turned down as if he was about to cry.
I quickly grabbed Leopold. Though I didn't believe Orion's words, scolding a child in public was still inappropriate.
"Leopold, don't waste your energy." David pushed Orion aside and retrieved his phone watch. "This child is only three years old—he doesn't know how to lie. Besides, he was video calling Sophia at the time. He happened to capture footage of Lucinda's attack."
I bit my lip secretly. Just happened to capture it? Everything was too coincidental.
I also wanted to see what Orion had actually filmed.
Leopold raised his arm and directly swept aside the bodyguard in front of him. "Uncle David, I'm not a fool. Who can guarantee that the video he captured is real?"
David's expression immediately stiffened. "You're just being stubborn."
Leopold snorted disdainfully. "This watch has passed through who knows how many hands. Nothing on it has any credibility!"
"You're being unreasonable!" David retorted, his face livid.
But Leopold didn't care. "Evidence must be rigorous. You can't prove this evidence hasn't been tampered with. Why should I believe it?"
Veins bulged on David's forehead, his eyes looking ready to devour someone.
"Leopold, if you don't trust David and Orion, you should at least trust Percy Manor's surveillance footage, right?"
Suddenly, Sophia walked over from the side.
She carried a black handbag.
Seeing her, David's tense expression immediately eased.
Looking back at Leopold, his eyes held undisguised smugness. "Leopold, you personally set up Percy Manor's security system. The access is in your and your father's hands. You wouldn't distrust even the surveillance footage, would you?"
Leopold's expression grew extremely ugly.
My heart sank to rock bottom with it.
Under normal circumstances, Sophia couldn't possibly access Percy Manor's surveillance—unless David helped her.
These two joined forces—their purpose was obvious.
Just then, Barry came running over urgently.
"Mr. Percy, Mrs. Alicia Percy is out of the emergency room."
My taut nerves suddenly loosened, and the suffocating feeling permeating the air dissipated with it.
Both the watch video and surveillance could be faked, but Alicia wouldn't lie.
I firmly believed I wasn't the one who hurt her, so I trusted that she could identify the real culprit.
Leopold sensed my emotional shift and changed from pulling to holding my hand. "Let's go."
Teddy and Barry cleared the way ahead. The bodyguards didn't dare obstruct and automatically moved aside.
"Leopold." David was so angry that his teeth were clenched. "The injured person is your own grandmother. Now the surveillance is right here—you won't even look at it?"
Leopold glanced at him coolly. "Evidence can be faked, but Grandma won't lie. She can definitely identify the perpetrator."
I secretly watched David and Sophia's expressions, not missing the slightest change.
But whether they truly weren't lying or their composure was first-rate, I couldn't detect anything unusual.
"Leopold?" Sophia tried to say something more.
But Leopold ignored her and led me downstairs.
Alicia had been transferred to the ICU, under specialized care.
Seeing Leopold and me arrive, the doctor pulled out a notebook and handed it to Donovan.
"When Mrs. Alicia Percy first entered the operating room, she wrote this name with all her might. She said this is the person who hurt her and insisted you bring her to justice."
I felt all the blood in my body rush to my head.
The next second, the notebook was opened.
We all looked over at once.
