chapter 144 contd
chapter 144 contd
We were careful enough not to wake Ethan up and when he turned to look at me I could see a storm in his eyes.
“If I am wrong and I'm just being paranoid. Then I am ready to live with it. But if I am right in my suspicion_” he couldn't finish his words as his voice cracked, and we left the room before Sabrina could come inside and catch us.
Now, as the doctor carried out the test. The silence in the office felt suffocating and my hands wouldn't stay still.
I rubbed them on my thighs as I watched Declan walk back and forth in the office. He didn't say anything to me but I could see him breaking away piece by piece.
After what took like forever. It felt like hours though but I knew very well that it couldn't have been more than one hour. Finally, the doctor came out from the lab with a white sealed envelope and he handed it to Declan without saying a word to him.
My heart was beating so fast as Declan tore the white envelope open. His eyes scanned the paper and then his face instantly became disappointed as his shoulders collapsed, as if the weight of the world had finally crushed him down into tiny pieces.
“It is true.” he whispered with a shaky voice and his hand shook as he held the page out. “Ethan….he is not mine. He is not my son.”
Tears filled his eyes and he pressed his hand onto his forehead and fell back onto the chair. And I quickly reached for him.
“Declan.” I called out his name softly and he shook his head at me.
“Four years Isabella. Four fucking damn years I lived my life as a whole lie. I gave that woman literally everything, I defended her when people whispered. And I believed her when she swore that Ethan was my blood. She is evil, Isabella. She has destroyed me.” he expressed, as his hands clenched the paper tightly.
The raw pain in his eyes made my eyes well up with tears and I moved closer to him, placing my hand on his shoulder.
“Don't blame yourself, Declan. If there is anything then you have to blame me. I should have stood by you. I should have been braver instead of running away, and maybe if I had stayed none of these would have happened.” I said and he looked up at me.
“No Isabella. You don't have to blame yourself for any of this, the past is gone and what matters is now. And now that I am done with her lies I am going to make everything right.” I said as I squeezed his hand in mine.
“Then I am going to stand with you and whatever comes our way we are going to fight it together.” I said as his grip tightened on me.
“Thank you for supporting me. I need you more than ever and I will always need you.”
“That is enough. You shouldn't be thanking me for something that is my responsibility towards you. But guess what? I have something to cheer up your mood and all I want from you is not to ask me anything but just to follow me.” I said and he smiled at me.

I brought Declan back to the hotel. I was already excited because I knew what was about to happen, but he didn't know anything including the kids.
My heart was pounding in anticipation of what was about to come and the twins were playing in the living room as their laughter echoed around the atmosphere.
I was patiently waiting behind the twins with Declan by my side and when they turned to see me. They instantly stopped playing as though they had been frozen.
“Mommy. I have something to tell you.” Adrian said and I raised my eyebrow at him, then Aria stood beside him.
“We know the truth mommy.” Aria said.
“What truth are you talking about? As far as I am concerned I haven't hidden anything from you guys so what is this you guys are talking about?” I asked.
“I know that we are still little but you have hidden something away from us. I overheard your conversation and I know that this uncle standing in front of us is our biological father.” Adrian said and I felt as though I had been instantly hit with something.
I loved my kids so much but one thing I didn't like about them was the fact that they always spoke so maturely and anyone would doubt that they were actually just four years old.
I instantly felt emotional as I knelt down.
“Adrian and Aria. Since you found out about everything, I cannot deny the truth. This uncle here is your biological father and that is why I brought him to you guys.” I said and I looked at Aria whose eyes were filled with tears.
When it came to tears. She took after me because I would always cry over anything, be it big or small.
Even before I could say anything else to her. She rushed towards Declan and wrapped her little arms around his waist.
“Daddy!” she cried out as she sobbed into his shirt. “I missed you so much. Now I have a daddy who can take me to school and show my friends that I feel loved at home. My family is complete.” she said and my heart cracked wide open.
Declan bent down and carried her up into his arms as he buried his face in her hair as tears streamed down his cheeks.
“Im so sorry, princess. Daddy should have been here for you and your brother from the beginning. The thing here is mommy and I had problems but it is all over now. I am finally here after a long while and I will never leave again. That is my promise to both of you.” he said and Adrian walked slowly towards him.
“Are you really staying daddy? Please promise us you won't disappear again?” Adrian said as Declan reached out and cupped his face in his hand.
“I swear, son. I won't ever disappear again from your lives. I will always be here.” Declan said as Adrian's lips trembled and then he hugged Declan tightly.
I stood there and watched them. My chest was so full that I could barely breathe, years of loneliness, of hiding, and of pretending I was enough for them alone. It all dissolved in that moment. Seeing their faces light up and hearing their laughter mix with Declan. I can swear that I did not regret a single thing.
This was the happiness I had dreamed of giving them and now it was real. Declan looked up at me and I could see his eyes shining with gratitude, love, and a vow to me and his kids.
And for the first time in a long time I allowed myself to believe in us again.
