Chapter 8 Unable to Appear on Stage
Sophia had been back for over a month now, but the whole Brown family acted like she was invisible. Even the servants avoided her gaze, let alone give her something as valuable as medicine.
Especially Hayden, who was always so money-hungry.
If he really had the Revival Elixir, he would have already sold it to the big wealthy families for a profit, rather than leaving it for the ignored Sophia.
Sitting on the floor, Sophia said casually, "I made this when I was bored."
Finn was stunned.
He instinctively glanced at Benjamin, his lips twitching slightly, clearly shocked by Sophia's words.
Even Benjamin's expression turned serious.
The White family's medical team had studied the Revival Elixir, but it was so complicated and had so many ingredients that it was almost impossible to fully understand.
So they all assumed that anyone who could make the Revival Elixir had to be highly skilled and knowledgeable about medicine.
Finn chuckled, "Mrs. White, you must be joking. This medicine is incredibly rare, developed by Robert. How could you possibly…"
"But I really made it," Sophia pouted, looking annoyed.
Robert was even lazier than she was.
The process of making the Revival Elixir was quite complex, and Robert couldn't be bothered to do it!
Finn's breath caught, and a suspicion began to form in his mind.
He exchanged a glance with Benjamin, and they both had the same realization.
The only person who could make the Revival Elixir was Robert.
Sophia must have a significant background.
"Let's go to the study," Benjamin said seriously, standing up and heading towards the bedroom door.
But he had only taken two steps when a voice called out from behind him, "Honey, I'm hungry."
Benjamin paused, then instructed Finn, "Go prepare some food."
Finn nodded quickly and headed downstairs.
Benjamin turned back and walked over to Sophia.
She was sitting on the cold floor, looking up at him.
When she saw him return, her eyes lit up and she smiled.
Benjamin frowned, then slowly bent down to lift her from the floor and place her on the couch.
He sat beside her, his dark eyes staring straight at her, filled with a depth and sharpness that seemed to see through everything. "Sophia, do you know Robert?"
Sophia nodded. "He's my teacher. Do you know him too?"
She had grown up without parental love, but her teacher and seniors had doted on her like a father and brothers.
To Sophia, they were her family.
Benjamin didn't ask any more questions. He raised a hand to ruffle her hair, "Still the same, silly as ever."
Sophia blinked in confusion, glaring at Benjamin with displeasure. "You promised not to call me silly!"
Benjamin paused, then laughed softly, "Yes, you're not silly. I misspoke. But remember, don't trust people so easily in the future, and don't show these things casually."
Sophia asked in confusion, "Why?"
Benjamin asked, "Do you know how much a Revival Elixir can sell for?"
"Thirty million dollars! Finn told me!"
Benjamin nodded, his handsome face carrying an inexplicable chill.
He looked into Sophia's clear eyes and reminded her softly, "If bad people find out you made this medicine, they'll definitely try to take you away, just like when you were a child."
Sophia was startled, her face instantly paling. She nodded obediently, "I won't say anything from now on."
Seeing her compliance, Benjamin sighed in relief, then ruffled her hair again. "The food should be ready. Go downstairs and eat something."
Sophia grabbed Benjamin's hand, asking, "Will you come with me?"
"I need to go to the study. You go eat first. I'll join you once I'm done."
In the study, Benjamin stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, staring out at the scenery. His lips were pressed into a thin line, deep in thought.
His tall, imposing figure was bathed in sunlight, giving him a golden glow.
Finn approached from behind, respectfully saying, "Mr. White, Mrs. White's background is indeed not simple. But our people couldn't find anything, as if someone was deliberately blocking us."
Benjamin turned around, not surprised by this answer. "No need to investigate further. She is indeed connected to Robert. Do you remember the rumors about Robert having three apprentices?"
The Revival Elixir was created by Robert to detoxify his youngest apprentice.
Finn's eyes lit up. "Then your poison can be cured! I need to tell Mr. Preston White this good news!"
"Wait." Benjamin stopped Finn.
Finn paused, looking at Benjamin in confusion. "Do you have other instructions, Mr. White?"
Benjamin shook his head. "I'll take Sophia to the White Manor tonight and tell him myself."
Downstairs, Sophia looked at the table full of food, unable to stop herself from swallowing.
Shrimp with pine nuts, special caviar, seafood pasta, wild oysters, deep-sea lobster, filet mignon…
All her favorite dishes.
She picked up her utensils and took a small bite, her eyes closing in happiness. "It's so delicious!"
The meat was tender.
The sauce was rich.
The flavor lingered.
It was absolutely divine!
Compared to the food at the Brown Villa, this was heavenly!
At the Brown Villa, if she accidentally overslept in the morning, there would be no breakfast for her.
If she ate too quickly at the table, Hayden and Olivia would criticize her for being ill-mannered, saying she couldn't compare to Isabella.
Desserts were Isabella's exclusive domain; Sophia wasn't even worthy of eating them.
Even looking at them too long would get her labeled as greedy and uncultured.
Thinking about her life at the Brown Villa, Sophia suddenly found the food less appetizing, her head drooping in sadness.
She couldn't understand.
How could there be parents like Hayden and Olivia in the world?
Benjamin came down the stairs and saw Sophia staring blankly at the table full of food.
He stopped behind her and cleared his throat. "Not to your taste?"
Sophia snapped out of her thoughts and quickly shook her head. "No, it's very good. I haven't had such delicious food in a long time."
The few servants standing nearby exchanged glances, their eyes full of mockery and disdain.
They had heard that Sophia had lived in the countryside before. She probably had never seen such good food.
Look at how she was wolfing it down, with no trace of ladylike manners.
Sophia had no idea that even at the White Villa, she couldn't escape being looked down upon.
