Chapter 553 Taken Away
Hearing the laughter, Sabrina turned her head in shock. When she saw Sophia's face clearly, her expression changed immediately.
"Sophia, what are you doing here?"
"If you can be here, why can't I?" Sophia replied back with amusement.
Originally, Benjamin didn't want her to come. Today's reception was bound to turn into chaos, and he was worried she and the baby might get hurt.
But Sophia insisted on coming to see for herself. Although she hadn't interacted much with Sabrina, she understood her pretty well.
Sabrina seemed fine on the surface, but deep down, she was crazier than anyone else.
Unless she saw Sabrina get arrested with her own eyes, she couldn't feel at ease.
Sabrina stared hard at Sophia. If looks could kill, Sophia would probably be dead a thousand times over.
Sophia wasin Benjamin's arms, one of his hand supporting her waist. She smiled at Sabrina: "We're not colleagues anymore, but you don't need to stare at me like that, do you? People who don't know better might think I've actually wronged you ."
Sabrina took a deep breath, silently warning herself to calm down.
No matter how much she hated Sophia, she couldn't lose her composure in front of so many people.
Everyone at today's reception was a big name in the medical field. If she wanted to complete her plan, she had to hold back.
With this in mind , she slowly forced out a smile. "Of course not. I'm just a bit surprised. After all, you personally refused Dr. Holden before. You didn't want to participate in the experimental research, so I thought you wouldn't come."
Her words immediately sparked discussion among the other guests. They had heard before that a young person had refused the research competition they'd been planning for so long. They didn't expect that person to be Sophia.
Sophia was so young and reckless!
Sophia took in everyone's gaze and smiled: "Whether or not to participate is my freedom. This competition isn't mandatory, and besides, I'm pregnant. What's wrong with not participating?"
Her one sentence left everyone speechless.
Sabrina snorted coldly in her heart. Her gaze suddenly fell on the child beside Alaric.
The child had big eyes, bright and clear. He was staring at her curiously.
Looking at Emilio's little face, Sabrina's heart jumped. She stared in disbelief, eyes wide.
Why... why did this child look so much like her?
Especially the eyes and lips - it was like they were carved from the same mold.
No... he didn't look like her!
She had never given birth to a child. Could he be Odette's child?
But wasn't Odette's child already dead?
Back then, she had personally left Odette's child at the orphanage entrance. At that time, Odette's child only had one last breath left. That day was cold with ice and snow everywhere.
After all, Odette's child was her own nephew. Although she had blood on her hands from many lives, she ultimately couldn't bring herself to kill this child directly.
But Odette's child had been very weak since birth. Without immediate treatment, he couldn't survive at all.
So she left Odette's child at the orphanage entrance to live or die on his own.
She thought Odette's child had died long ago, but the face before her made it impossible to deceive herself anymore.
Her face lost all color. She couldn't help but step back half a step, staring at Emilio's face in horror.
Emilio tilted his head, blinking innocently. He remembered this person.
Last night their car almost had an accident, and she was the one who got out of the other car.
But... why did she look so much like his mother?
Not just similar - the same!
Except that his mother was thinner, her whole face was gaunt, and she had many scars on her body. You could tell she had suffered a lot.
But the woman in front of him was very well-maintained.
But why was she staring at him with such a frightened look?
Emilio's mind was filled with big questions. He instinctively looked up at Alaric.
Alaric reached out and ruffled his hair, saying nothing. Emilio was still young. The matters between Odette and Sabrina weren't suitable to tell him now.
"Miss, you're scaring my son. Please move aside," Alaric said bluntly.
Sabrina's mind was in chaos. She instinctively did as Alaric said and stepped aside.
Only after they left did she finally come to her senses.
She gritted her teeth secretly, wanting to find another suitable opportunity to approach Alaric and tell him she didn't mean to scare his son, asking him not to mind.
But before she could move, footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
Sabrina instinctively turned to look and saw a group of people in police uniforms walking in, approaching her with serious expressions.
She instinctively sensed danger and hurriedly looked around, wanting to find a crowd to hide in.
But she had only taken two steps when the police stopped her.
The police showed their identification and said to Sabrina, "Are you Sabrina Chambers? Someone reported you for illegal detention and participating in illegal experiments. Come with us, we need to investigate you."
Sabrina was shocked and quickly denied: "Sir, you must be mistaken. How could I do such things? And my name is Odette Chambers, not Sabrina Chambers."
The police said seriously, "But according to our investigation, your name isn't Odette Chambers at all, but Sabrina Chambers."
Sabrina looked at the police in panic, her eyes full of disbelief.
How was this possible?
Her identity documents were perfect; there absolutely shouldn't be any flaws.
Why would the police suddenly find her?
Could it be Odette's doing?
Only she and Odette knew about her imprisonment of Odette.
Now Odette was missing. Did Odette go to the police station to report her?
Thinking this, Sabrina forced herself to stay calm and said to the police: "Sir, I can cooperate with your investigation, but can you tell me who's trying to frame me?"
If it really was Odette, she would never let that little bitch go!
But the police didn't answer her question. "You'll know when you get to the station. Please don't waste our time."
Now Sabrina couldn't find any more excuses.
In her most desperate and helpless moment, she instinctively looked behind her and pleaded with Alaric: "Mr. White, please help me, I don't want to be taken away."
Alaric frowned, a flash of disgust in his eyes: "If you really haven't done anything wrong, you don't need to worry about being taken in for investigation."
His words were absolutely cold-blooded.
And completely doused Sabrina's heart with cold water.
Tears streamed down her face . She couldn't believe that Alaric could be so heartless to her.
But she forgot that Alaric didn't know her at all and had no obligation to help her.
In the end, Sabrina was still taken away by the police.
Sabrina was full of hatred. She turned around and stared hard at Sophia.
In this life, there were two people she hated most - one was Odette, the other was Sophia.
She was jealous of Odette because, although Odette hadn't lived well these years, at least she lived like a normal person.
Most importantly, she actually had sex with Alaric and got pregnant with his child.
Toward Sophia, there was more jealousy.
Sophia possessed talents that ordinary people could never have in their lifetime.
This kind of talent was something she could never get, no matter how hard she tried.
All these years, she had worked hard at GeneCipher Society, wanting to climb up, but what was the result?
Whether it was Valentin, Elijah, or Francis, they all praised Sophia highly.
Wherever Sophia was, she became invisible. All her light was overshadowed.
She hated this feeling of being suppressed.
Before being taken away, Sabrina laughed coldly and threatened Sophia: "You just wait. You don't think that destroying GeneCipher Society means you can rest easy, do you?"
Sophia threw herself into Benjamin's arms, pretending to be scared: "I'm so scared. Ms. Chambers, you'd better worry about yourself."
