Chapter 537 Rubbing Salt in the Wound
Sophia looked at her in surprise, "From your tone, you seem to know Alaric pretty well?"
A gentle smile appeared on Sabrina's lips, "It's a long story between Alaric and me..."
But she had no intention of revealing her past with Alaric.
Since she didn't want to talk about it, Sophia gradually lost interest and stopped asking.
Sabrina was surprised that she actually stopped asking and glanced at her in astonishment.
"Francis should have told you that I'll be working with you from now on."
Sophia, who had been resting with her eyes closed in the passenger seat, slowly opened her eyes and smiled, "To be more precise, I'll only provide professional guidance to you guys. I won't be participating in your research."
Sabrina: "Seems pretty much the same to me."
After about twenty minutes, Sabrina slowly pulled the car into the parking lot of the Medical Association.
She and Sophia walked in together.
When they arrived, many well-known doctors in the field had already gathered inside.
Many people were standing in small groups, discussing something in low voices.
Hearing footsteps, everyone turned their attention toward the door.
When they saw Sophia and Sabrina clearly, everyone showed amazed expressions.
It wasn't that they hadn't seen beautiful women before, but women who were this stunning and impossible to look away from were truly rare.
And now two such women had appeared at once.
The noisy discussion in the conference room gradually quieted down. Some people who recognized Sophia immediately stood up to greet her.
"Dr. Brown, long time no see! I didn't expect you'd come to Harmony City too!"
The man speaking was a surgeon from Silverlight City Hospital. Sophia had met him before.
Sophia politely nodded at him, "Hello, long time no see."
Sabrina had just returned to Novaria not long ago, and this was basically her first official appearance. She was unfamiliar with everyone here.
She stood beside Sophia with confidence and composure, her lips always carrying an appropriate, gentle smile.
It made people naturally feel good about her.
A few minutes later, the conference room door was slowly pushed open.
Several medical experts walked in from outside, and the doctors who had been discussing all closed their mouths.
Leading them was an elderly man with gray hair, probably in his seventies.
Although he was quite old, he was in good spirits.
"Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules. I'm sure you've all heard that we'll be conducting research in the form of team competitions."
The meeting lasted over three hours, with many industry leaders discussing the importance of this research competition.
As well as the specific content of the competition.
Everyone was taking notes carefully. Looking around, only Sophia was leaning back in her chair, seemingly lost in thought.
Medical professor Geraldo McGinnis, who was speaking, paused slightly and asked, "Does anyone have any questions?"
Sabrina was the first to stand up and raise a professional question.
Geraldo nodded at her approvingly, then patiently explained.
Sabrina listened while nodding, her attitude sincere and serious.
Geraldo was very satisfied with her attitude and had a good impression of her.
After she sat down, Geraldo looked in Sophia's direction and asked her, "Dr. Brown, do you have any questions?"
Sophia frowned and voiced her doubts: "How is the research topic you're proposing any different from Lachlan's GeneCipher Society?"
As soon as these words came out, the entire room fell silent.
Only the sound of people gasping could be heard.
Everyone stared at Sophia in shock, their eyes full of disbelief.
When Francis first asked her to participate in this medical research, she hadn't thought much of it.
She had originally thought it was just ordinary medical research.
But it wasn't until she entered the conference room that she realized this wasn't ordinary medical research at all.
What these people wanted to do was the same as what Lachlan had always wanted to research - drugs that could improve human genes.
They were essentially the same in nature.
The only difference might be that they wouldn't use human subjects for experiments.
Geraldo's expression immediately darkened, and he stared at Sophia with an unfriendly look: "How can these two researches be compared? We're doing this for the benefit of humanity."
Sophia suddenly smiled, "That's what Lachlan said too."
"You!" Geraldo was immediately left speechless, his face turning ugly with anger.
Another professor who was observing tried to calm Geraldo down in a low voice: "We're just having a rational discussion, Dr. McGinnis, don't get upset."
Geraldo snorted coldly, "How can I not be upset? Weren't we told that only top doctors were selected? Is she here to cause trouble?"
Sophia spoke with a calm expression: "Altering human genes means changing the natural development of humanity. Lachlan is a cautionary tale."
Sophia was one of the biggest victims of Lachlan's ambitions.
Both she and Benjamin were.
Not long ago, there was also a group of children. If she hadn't appeared in time, those children might not have survived.
Anything that goes against natural laws will face consequences.
If it were just ordinary medical research, she would participate without hesitation.
But if it was this kind of research that went against natural laws, she'd rather withdraw.
Geraldo was quite upset by Sophia's words, his chest heaving violently.
"Dr. Brown, as a doctor, what you should be doing is using your talents to their fullest, not questioning our decisions here!"
Geraldo had a strong personality and didn't like being questioned.
Compared to Sophia, who liked to question their decisions, he preferred compliant researchers like Sabrina.
Sophia suddenly stood up, "Then we have nothing more to discuss. We have different paths and cannot work together."
Asking her to participate in this kind of research was like rubbing salt in her wounds.
