Chapter 535 Joyful Enemies
Benjamin and Sophia took in their interaction and exchanged knowing smiles.
She even felt a bit sorry for Joshua. Although Isolde had played the female lead in many romance dramas, she seemed to really lack actual relationship experience.
Who knows when Isolde would finally understand her own feelings?
After Joshua and Isolde finished lunch, they said goodbye to Sophia and the others. "We're heading out. Take your time eating."
Isolde reluctantly hugged Sophia. "I'm filming with a crew nearby. Feel free to come find me anytime."
"Okay." I smiled in agreement and waved at her.
Joshua watched Sophia and Isolde hugging, feeling inexplicably jealous. What's so great about two women hugging?
He really couldn't understand what they were thinking, being all clingy like that.
Joshua quickly grabbed Isolde's hand. "Let's go, we need to get back to work soon. Stop bothering Sophia and Benjamin's alone time. Can't you see Benjamin's look could kill?"
Benjamin lifted his eyelids and glanced at Joshua coolly, his eyes showing he saw right through everything.
Afraid his little thoughts would be exposed on the spot, Joshua laughed awkwardly and quickly left with Isolde.
Watching their retreating figures, Benjamin and Sophia both showed helpless expressions.
Joshua was really too childish!
"Matthew will be coming to Harmony City in a couple of days," Benjamin suddenly said.
Sophia looked up in surprise. "Matthew's coming to Harmony City? Is something going on?"
"Alaric will come too. There's an auction here in a few days, and Matthew plans to auction off the medicine you developed."
Sophia froze for a moment, many thoughts flashing through her mind before she suddenly understood. "You want to use this method to draw out Elijah and the people behind him?"
Benjamin nodded slightly and said appreciatively, "You're smart."
Sophia put down her fork and asked worriedly, "Isn't this too risky? We have no idea how much power Elijah has backing him."
Originally, they thought that once they eliminated the GeneCipher Society, everything would be fine.
But they didn't know that there was actually another group of people aside from the GeneCipher Society..
They'd been investigating that group's identity all this time, but found nothing in the end.
Benjamin pulled Sophia into his arms and said softly, "Don't worry. We were able to eliminate the GeneCipher Society, and we can definitely handle this group too."
Sophia nodded gently, but she was still worried.
Last time they were able to progress smoothly, partly because Lachlan never intended to harm them, and partly because they had help from Thaddeus and the others.
But no one could guarantee what would happen next.
The next morning, Benjamin drove Sophia to the hospital and left. As Sophia passed by the front desk, she heard the nurses discussing, "Did you guys hear? I heard a team that does medical research came to our hospital today."
"I saw them all go to Francis's room together when I was making rounds this morning."
Someone sighed, "Francis has been hospitalized for so many days now, and except for the day of surgery, none of his children have come to visit him. It's really sad."
Everyone's attention shifted as they all felt sympathy for Francis's.
Sophia listened and quickened her pace toward Francis's room.
Regarding the medical research team, the nurses mentioned, she already had a guess.
It should be members of Oasis University's research team coming to see Francis.
They were all brought up by Francis himself. To join this research team, you had to go through layers of assessments. Those selected were all top talent.
Since the research team was established until now, only two people had been admitted through special exceptions—herself and Robert.
Two years ago, after Benjamin's incident, she voluntarily resigned from her position as team leader.
At that time, Francis's eyes were full of regret as he said earnestly, "I know you're in pain right now, but people have to move forward. I'll keep this team leader position for you. When you've thought it through, you can decide to come back."
Until now, Sophia still had no plans to go back.
She had never been someone with much team spirit. She used to prefer working alone, and that habit still hasn't changed.
But she had promised Francis that whenever he needed help, she would spare no effort.
When she entered Francis's room, the research team members hadn't left yet. They were all gathered around Francis's bed, their eyes full of concern.
Sophia frowned and reminded them, "The patient needs rest. Don't all crowd around the bed."
Hearing the familiar voice, everyone turned around, their eyes full of delight. "Sophia! Francis just mentioned you, and we didn't expect to see you so soon."
Sophia smiled and greeted them. More than half of those visiting Francis were members of Sophia's former team.
There were also some people from other research groups, but they had all heard of Sophia's name and warmly greeted her.
"Sophia, come here." Francis had been in the hospital for several days, his body had recovered quite a bit, and his spirits were better, too.
He smiled and waved at Sophia.
Sophia quickly walked to the bedside and said, "Your recovery is going well. You should have rested long ago. Your illness is basically from overwork."
Francis smiled and shook his head. "I've lived this long and done everything I needed to do. I have no regrets."
He had always aspired to become a doctor and make achievements in this field.
His wish had long been fulfilled.
Even if he didn't have much time left in the future, his life had been worthwhile.
His only regret was that with his physical condition, he wouldn't be able to continue his research work when he recovers.
After surgery, his body would definitely be much worse than before.
This was irreversible.
He had been mentally prepared for this long ago.
He looked at Sophia and said, "Sophia, besides having you perform my surgery, there's another reason I called you here."
Sophia looked up and glanced at the team members in the room, gradually forming a guess.
"Francis, I heard you're developing a new medicine recently."
Francis nodded approvingly. "That's right. This is a decision made after discussion by the Medical Association."
Sophia nodded and didn't continue asking.
Oasis University's research team could almost represent the highest level of medical research in all of Novaria.
Those who could enter the research team were all top medical talents.
If they were being mobilized, the research direction must be very important.
Francis continued, "I hope you can return to the research team and lead them in this research."
