Chapter 517: Which Sentence is Nonsense
Benjamin reached out and ruffled her fluffy little head. "There's a lounge in the office. Go sleep in there for a bit."
"What about you?" Sophia tilted her head and asked back.
Benjamin pointed at the documents on his desk. "I still have work to do. You go rest first, and when you wake up, I'll take you out to have fun."
Sophia's eyes lit up. She'd heard that a big amusement park had recently opened in Harmony City.
Benjamin shook his head helplessly. "Go sleep."
Even though Sophia was about to become a mother, she still acted like an innocent child.
Sophia stood on the tip of her toes and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you, honey!"
Then Sophia turned and ran into the lounge.
Benjamin's eyelid twitched as he watched, constantly reminding her, "Be careful, you've got a baby in your belly."
Sophia smiled, slowed her pace, and walked into the lounge.
Everything in the office had been newly replaced. When Benjamin had the staff set it up, he'd specifically considered her preferences.
So the layout and decor of the lounge were all in the style she was most familiar with.
It didn't take long for her to fall asleep.
When she woke up again, it was already dark outside.
Benjamin was leaning against the headboard, looking at the company's financial reports.
Sophia's slender, pale arm stretched out from under the covers. She stretched lazily, then rolled over and snuggled up to Benjamin.
"Honey."
"Awake?"
"How long did I sleep?" Sophia's eyes still carried the drowsiness of someone not fully awake, making her look a bit adorable.
Benjamin glanced at his watch and answered, "Over four hours. Looks like you won't need to sleep tonight."
Catching the meaning in his words, Sophia's cheeks flushed red, and she glared at him fiercely.
"Don't talk nonsense!"
Benjamin closed the laptop on his legs, placed it on the nightstand, then leaned down and pinned Sophia beneath him.
"Mrs. White, which part of what I said was nonsense?"
He was speaking so closely that she could feel his hot breath spilling over her skin.
Sophia scrunched her neck, laughing as she turned her face away.
After the two of them had fooled around on the bed for a while, Sophia pushed him. "I'm hungry. I want to eat."
Benjamin got up, slowly loosening his arms around her. "Let's go, time to eat."
After rising from the bed, he looked down and straightened his wrinkled shirt and suit..
When he walked out of the lounge, he'd transformed back into that cold and aloof Benjamin.
As if the person who'd just been clinging to her and kissing her non-stop wasn't him at all.
Sophia couldn't help but roll her eyes silently. She thought Benjamin was too good at putting on an act.
Meanwhile.
Lowell left work and bought some things at the supermarket, and was ready to head home..
He'd just walked into the apartment building's hallway when someone suddenly rushed him from behind.
He didn't have time to react before someone covered his mouth.
Lowell's pupils contracted, and he struggled with all his might.
But then a familiar voice suddenly came to his ear. "Don't yell, it's me."
Lowell froze, then turned his head in disbelief to look at the person behind him.
The light in the hallway was dim, but it was enough for Lowell to make out his assailant.
The man was tall and thin, dressed all in black, wrapped up tightly.
He wore a baseball cap on his head and a mask on his face, revealing only a pair of dangerous, deep-set eyes.
Those eyes were like a venomous snake lurking in the night, as if ready to strike at any moment.
Lowell couldn't help but step back several paces. "You... why is it you? When did you get released?"
Wasn't he... arrested?
The man scanned his surroundings while shushing Lowell with his finger.
"This isn't the place to talk. Let's go to your place first."
Lowell's mind was in complete chaos. He had no time or energy to think.
He instinctively followed the man's instructions, stumbling up the stairs step by step.
After closing the door, Lowell angrily rushed forward, grabbed the man by the collar, and demanded, "Why did you come looking for me? Why?"
The man's eyes were full of defeat. "I didn't want to come find you either, but I really have nowhere else to turn now. Lowell, please help me, okay?"
Lowell gritted his teeth angrily and forcefully shoved him away.
"Why should I help you? Who do you think you are? Get out, and don't come bother me again!"
Lowell trembled with anger, his eyes full of hatred as he looked at the man.
The man in black stumbled from the push and nearly fell to the ground.
He reached up to remove his mask and cap, revealing that old and haggard face.
It was Elijah! Benjamin and Sophia would definitely recognize him as the man who'd been abducted and went missing.
"Lowell, do you really have the heart to watch your father with nowhere to turn?"
Hearing the word "father," Lowell became even more furious.
"You don't deserve to be my father at all. If you hadn't abandoned us back then, Mom and I would not have almost ended up on the streets."
Since childhood, he'd had no father.
His father had died the moment he abandoned him and his mother for his research.
And his older brother's death was the most painful experience of his lifetime.
Besides, his last name was Warren now, not Martinez.
"Lowell, I know you hate me, but the blood ties between us can't be severed. All those police out there are hunting for me. Just let me hide here for a while, okay?"
