Chapter 512: Go to Harmony City
"What?" Sophia walked out of the room fully dressed, just in time to hear that.
Benjamin's face darkened too. He immediately went back to the room to grab his phone and called Magnus.
Magnus picked up quickly. "Hello? Benjamin."
"What happened?" He got straight to the point, not wanting to waste words.
Magnus knew what he wanted to ask and immediately explained what had happened. "The escort was going smoothly at first, but after arriving in Harmony City, a group of strangers in black suddenly rushed out and started shooting."
There were many civilians around at the time, and the scene was chaotic.
Several of the special police escorting Elijah were injured, and one officer was so severely wounded that he died on the spot.
While they were dealing with that group, another wave of people appeared and drove off with the escort vehicle.
Sophia frowned. "That vehicle was specifically for transporting prisoners. Such an obvious target—can't they find it on surveillance?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end, then he continued slowly, "They found it, but the vehicle ended up in a forest in the suburbs where there are no cameras."
The other side clearly came prepared with plenty of people. At the time, they surrounded the area with several vehicles.
Everything happened too suddenly. The attackers not only had guns but also explosives.
There were many civilians around, and without anyone to guide the evacuation, it was extremely chaotic.
"Could it be remnant forces from the GeneCipher Society? Didn't they interrogate Lachlan?" Benjamin asked.
"They did, but Lachlan said he's told them everything he knows. He doesn't recognize those people."
Sophia and Benjamin exchanged glances. It seemed a trip to Harmony City was unavoidable now.
However, neither of them could figure out why Elijah wanted to go to Harmony City. Did he have someone important to meet? Or was someone protecting him from behind the scenes?
After hanging up, Sophia and Benjamin returned to the bedroom in silence.
Sophia spoke first. "What do you make of this?"
Benjamin slowly shook his head. "Right now, there are only two possibilities. Either the GeneCipher Society still has remnant forces, or there's another group that wants to use Elijah."
Elijah's greatest value was his involvement in the GeneCipher Society's research.
Either way, they had to make a trip to Harmony City.
Benjamin got back into bed and pulled Sophia into his arms, saying softly, "Let's sleep first. We'll talk about it tomorrow."
Elijah wasn't lost by them, and they didn't need to worry about it.
When they were needed, Thaddeus would naturally call.
Early the next morning, Benjamin and Sophia drove directly to the White Manor.
They explained that they were going to Harmony City. She had thought about it all night—going to Harmony City was unavoidable.
On one hand, Elijah had escaped and remained a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment.
On the other hand, Francis's surgery was urgent, and the research team in Harmony City desperately needed people.
She just hadn't expected that as soon as she proposed going to Harmony City, she would face strong opposition.
"No way, Harmony City is too dangerous right now! Sophia, Francis's surgery doesn't have to be done by you. Why not let someone else handle it?"
Preston was the first to disagree.
The White family had finally settled down and could live a normal life. They absolutely couldn't let Sophia get caught up in conflicts again.
Before, when Magnus went missing, he felt the White family was incomplete.
Now that the family was finally reunited and he had children and grandchildren around him, he hadn't enjoyed the good life for long and couldn't handle any more turmoil.
Besides, he couldn't bear to see Benjamin and Sophia leave.
As people age, they become more sentimental.
He didn't want his children and grandchildren to be too far away.
Amelia, who had been silent all along, also voiced her objection.
She had finally managed to improve her relationship with Benjamin recently.
Under Sophia's treatment, her mental condition had gotten better and better, and she realized how many mistakes she had made in the past.
So during this time, she tried her best to make amends, wanting to get closer to Benjamin and spend more time with him.
If Benjamin left like this, who knew when he would return?
Would she still have a chance to earn Benjamin's forgiveness?
Magnus and Alaric, however, supported Sophia's decision.
Magnus said, "It's good for young people to go out and make their way in the world. Although the White family is a top-tier family in Silverlight City, we're still a bit behind nationally."
He paused, then continued, "Sophia is so capable; she shouldn't be confined at home. That would be a waste of her talents."
Alaric nodded in agreement. "And Benjamin, don't think I don't know—you handed the White Group over to Dad and me because you want to slack off."
Caught with his true intentions exposed, Benjamin couldn't help, but clear his throat lightly.
"Alaric, I think you're managing the company quite well."
Alaric snorted. "The White Group has a branch in Harmony City, too. You can go with Sophia if you want, but you have to take over the branch."
Benjamin was helpless.
Other wealthy families fought tooth and nail over inheritance rights.
The White family, on the other hand, passed the inheritance around like a hot potato.
Resistant as he was, Benjamin understood that what Alaric truly wanted to do most was medical research.
Alaric had sacrificed too much for him in the past. From now on, he should do what he wants to do.
