Chapter 486: Be Good, Don't Cry
Sophia grabbed Jake's arm hard and pinned him face down on the ground.
Jake crashed to his knees, the sharp pain in his arm making him grimace.
"Sophia, what are you doing?"
"If you still want this arm, then shut your mouth."
Sophia roughly threw his hand away, then grabbed some tissues nearby to wipe her hands.
As if she had touched something dirty.
Jake was sweating from the pain, his whole body shaking.
He clutched his arm, his eyes full of shock and fear.
The other professors were also startled by this sudden turn of events.
Who would have thought that Sophia, who looked so small and delicate, could have such explosive power?
Especially the fierce look in Sophia's eyes - clearly not someone to mess with.
Their surprise was understandable, since Sophia's face was so deceiving.
Sophia had a face as pretty and delicate as a Barbie doll, and her figure was slim and fragile-looking.
At first glance, she seemed like a kind woman.
But Sophia was not a soft woman. Whoever treated her badly, she could pay back ten or a hundred times over.
Ivan was the first to react, saying to Sophia, "We're not trying to force you, but Lachlan gave us a deadline. If we can't develop what he wants, we're all dead."
Sophia's eyes were cold as she laughed mockingly: "Whether you live or die, what does that have to do with me?"
She only saved innocent people.
Among this group, not one was innocent.
Lachlan wanted to develop a drug that could change human genes, simply because he mistakenly believed he was Preston's son.
Preston didn't tell him about his background for his own good.
Lachlan's father, Everett, had saved Preston's life, so Everett's only bloodline naturally deserved the best of everything in this world.
What Preston could give Lachlan was the identity of a son of the White family.
But Preston was afraid that Lachlan's status as an adopted son would attract criticism and that he would be bullied and looked down upon, so Preston treated him and Magnus equally.
From any angle, Preston had done right by Lachlan.
Preston wasn't playing favorites at all.
In fact, except for the company inheritance rights, Lachlan had everything Magnus had.
Lachlan had reached this point simply because of his own greed.
He lacked talent and had no head for business, yet still dreamed of controlling the entire White Group.
Preston had worked hard for decades to build his business empire. To grow and expand it, he naturally had to choose the more suitable person.
Magnus happened to be the more suitable person.
He had great business talent and inherited all the best qualities of Preston and Octavia.
Even if Lachlan really were Preston's biological son, the White Group would never go to him.
Anyone could understand this, but Lachlan couldn't.
Of course, Lachlan's biological mother was fanning the flames.
She actually made Lachlan believe he was Preston's illegitimate son, making him hate Preston.
Sophia sighed helplessly and walked back into the cage, picking up the crying child.
She gently patted the child, softly comforting: "It's okay now, be good, don't cry."
Ivan's jaw nearly dropped.
How could someone change their attitude so quickly?
However, after this incident, they didn't dare provoke Sophia anymore.
Sophia struck hard and showed no mercy in her actions.
They carried the injured Jake out and helped him reset his dislocated bone.
When they came out of Jake's room, they found Sophia standing at the lab bench.
They looked at each other in surprise and walked over, but didn't dare get too close.
Finally, Ivan couldn't contain his curiosity and asked, "Sophia, what are you working on?"
"An antidote."
"What antidote?"
Sophia's gaze lifted from the drug in her hand to him.
Ivan suddenly felt a chill down his back and didn't dare ask more.
But he couldn't bring himself to leave, because Sophia's research movements were too skilled.
They had been doing research for decades and were still very careful about the amounts of chemical ingredients.
But Sophia's movements were quick, as if she didn't need to measure dosages at all. Every step she took was precisely calibrated.
After a long while, Sophia finally spoke: "For those kids."
Ivan and the others were stunned, finally understanding what Sophia meant.
So Sophia was preparing an antidote for those children.
They sighed helplessly. Young people these days talk so strangely - they could barely keep up with her thinking.
But... could she really make an antidote? They had been injected with failed drugs.
Each person had many abnormal toxic reactions. The child with the most severe reaction died on the day of the injection.
"How will you know if you don't try?" Sophia responded without changing her expression.
This wasn't her first time doing this kind of experiment, and she was getting better at it.
Besides, those children had been poisoned for a short time and hadn't reached the point of no return yet.
She was confident in her medical skills.
Ivan and the others fell silent, just quietly watching behind Sophia.
Sophia ignored them and focused on her work.
Writing and drawing on the blackboard while taking drugs from the cabinet.
Great, she didn't have to pay for these drugs herself.
You know, making medicine is expensive - not just the equipment, but also many chemical ingredients cost money.
Lachlan had spent a lot of money in this area, and the lab equipment was the latest.
Moreover, she was surprised to find that this lab equipment was produced by the Lumina Group.
In other words, Benjamin's earlier guess was right.
For such a large batch of lab equipment, Lachlan would definitely choose the company with the best value.
About three hours later, Sophia took out the finished antidote and began clinical trials.
To make it convenient for these professors to do research, many lab mice were kept here.
Sophia's movements were smooth, but the drug needed to be observed for a while after injection.
She had to check if the drug had any side effects.
After she left the lab bench, Ivan and the others crowded around the blackboard to study.
As they looked, they exclaimed in amazement.
"So that's how it is. Why didn't I think of that?"
"So this drug can be used this way, learned something new..."
They were excited, as if they were the ones who had developed the antidote.
Ivan was so moved that his eyes turned red, and finally tears fell.
"We've studied medicine for so long, but we're still not as good!"
"Nothing to compare, everyone has their strengths," Sophia said flatly.
Actually, she wasn't good at this research at first either.
The first time she developed an antidote for Benjamin, it took her several months.
These professors could have originally shone in their own fields and helped more people.
But their ambitions were too big.
In the end... they lost sight of why they became doctors in the first place.
