Chapter 473 Madeline Is a Lunatic
Sophia shot the servant a cold glance, her eyes full of indifference.
She stood up and walked toward the door, calling the bodyguards in.
Clea was just an ordinary person with no scheming mind and a very timid personality.
If Clea hadn't been threatened by someone, she probably would never have had the guts to do something like this in her entire life.
"I'll help you find your son, but... when you make a mistake, you have to face the consequences."
With that, she waved at the bodyguards, signaling them to take her away.
Hearing this, Clea stopped struggling and thanked Sophia with reddened eyes.
"Mrs. White, thank you so much. You must find my son! Please!"
She knew what she did was terrible, but her son was everything to her.
She had no choice.
Now that she'd been discovered, besides feeling nervous, she also felt relieved.
Finally, she didn't have to keep living in fear and anxiety anymore.
Her only worry now was her son's safety.
There was nothing she could do now except silently pray that her child was okay.
After the bodyguards took Clea away, only Sophia remained in the room.
She lowered her eyes, gently touching her belly with her hand.
She was also a mother, so naturally she could understand Clea's actions, though she couldn't agree with them.
Faced with those people's threats, she had a hundred ways to ask for help or choose to call the police.
But Clea did none of that. Instead, she accepted those people's orders and came to drug her.
Hopefully, this incident will teach Clea a lesson.
However, Lachlan's people were right outside the door? That was quite unexpected.
Sophia took out her laptop and opened the surveillance video from outside, discovering there was indeed a car not far away.
A black private car, hidden under the shade of trees—if you didn't look carefully, you probably wouldn't notice it.
Sophia zoomed in on the surveillance footage as much as possible, but it was still somewhat blurry.
She couldn't help but sigh. It seemed it was time to have Benjamin's team develop a higher-definition surveillance system.
Sophia quietly closed the surveillance footage, processed the image digitally, and finally got a clear view of the man's face.
She immediately sent the photo to Chase: "Help me look into this person's background, as soon as possible."
Chase quickly replied with an "OK" and said nothing more.
About a few minutes later, Chase sent the information to Sophia's email.
Sophia opened it and found that this person was on the team roster of Lachlan's photography studio.
Lachlan took him along on every business trip—probably his right-hand man.
So it was definitely Lachlan's subordinate.
Additionally, she had found information about Lachlan's biological mother in the past couple of days.
Lachlan's mother was named Madeline Bryant, which explained why Lachlan would give himself the name Valentin Bryant.
She still hadn't found out the real cause of Madeline's death. Could there be more to this story?
What was the truth?
On the other side, Benjamin had already heard from Alaric about the whereabouts of his biological father.
After having breakfast with Sophia this morning, Benjamin received a call from Alaric asking him to come to the hotel.
Though he hesitated, he still went.
Then he saw Alaric and M sitting together.
Just as he was wondering when their relationship had gotten so good, Alaric explained with a serious expression: "Benjamin, haven't you been looking for our father? Actually, he's been by your side all along."
Benjamin stared blankly at Alaric and M. He didn't react right away.
What did he mean... by his side all along?
An idea involuntarily surfaced in his mind, and then he was too horrified to continue thinking.
"No, that's impossible."
Benjamin couldn't believe his guess, much less accept this reality.
How could the person he most admired and trusted be that man who abandoned him and disappeared without a trace?
Alaric let out a heavy sigh. "Benjamin, it's true. Actually, I found out about this a few days ago, but I just couldn't find the right time to tell you."
As for M, he stood awkwardly in front of the sofa, looking at Benjamin with eager yet nervous eyes.
He seemed afraid that Benjamin would blame him, refuse to acknowledge him.
Fortunately, Benjamin's emotions were fairly stable. Although he was quite surprised when he first heard this, he was good at hiding his feelings.
He quickly suppressed all his emotions.
On the surface, he still maintained that calm and composed appearance.
He stared steadily at M, or rather Magnus, his voice cold and emotionless. "I want you to say it yourself."
Meeting Benjamin's deep gaze, Magnus's heart ached.
"Benjamin, I'm Magnus. I'm sorry for hiding it from you all this time."
"So, you approaching me from the beginning was premeditated?" Benjamin questioned coldly.
Magnus waved his hands frantically. "No, actually, ever since you entered the GeneCipher Society, I've been following you."
During that time when Benjamin was unconscious, he worried about Benjamin's safety, so he would often secretly check on his condition.
Plus, with Robert's secret help, that's why Benjamin recovered so quickly.
But he felt there was no need to tell Benjamin these things.
The fact that he had wronged Benjamin was undeniable—there was no need to make other excuses.
"Then why did you leave the White family in the first place? And why did you appear in the GeneCipher Society?"
"He already told me about this. Leaving the White family back then was to investigate the GeneCipher Society. He's been investigating all these years." Alaric quickly spoke up for him, afraid Benjamin might lose his temper and get physical.
Many things didn't need to be spelled out—Benjamin already understood.
So everything had been a facade.
Including the argument between Magnus and Preston.
The purpose was to make the GeneCipher Society let down its guard.
Benjamin had originally thought that when he met his biological father, he would be furious, filled with resentment.
But at this moment... his heart was very calm, without a ripple.
It was because he had no feelings for Magnus. Whether he was M or Magnus didn't matter to him.
"Since you're Magnus, you should explain what's going on with Lachlan."
Preston said Magnus might be the only one who knew why Lachlan wanted to destroy the White family.
"Actually, I don't know, but I guess it should have something to do with his mother." Seeing that Benjamin wasn't losing his temper, Magnus felt a bit relieved.
"Does her death have something to do with you?" Benjamin asked in a cold, hard tone.
Magnus nodded, then shook his head. "His mother's death had nothing to do with me, but when his mother fell from the building, I was at the scene."
"What happened?" Benjamin and Alaric exchanged glances, their expressions becoming even more serious.
They both had a feeling this was part of a huge conspiracy.
Magnus's face beneath the mask darkened, his eyes full of anger. "Madeline... was just a lunatic!"
After a pause, he continued: "Before she died, Madeline asked me to meet her on the rooftop. She said a bunch of nonsense to me, and then she jumped right in front of me."
