Chapter 465 Little Life
Preston was stunned for a moment, not quite processing it. "What did you say? Is Sophia pregnant? Is it true?"
"It's true. You're going to be a great-great-grandfather soon." Benjamin's lips curved slightly, his eyes full of tenderness.
He had only found out about it last night; otherwise, he wouldn't have let Sophia rest at home.
After leaving M's place last night, he went straight home.
Everything was fine at first, but then in the middle of the night, Sophia suddenly broke out in a cold sweat.
He was already a light sleeper, so he woke up right away.
He worriedly woke Sophia up and asked if she wasn't feeling well.
Sophia looked a bit pale, but still smiled to reassure him: "I'm fine, really. It's just that my body feels a bit uncomfortable in early pregnancy."
When he heard those words, he didn't react for a long time.
He even thought he might have heard wrong. It took him a while to find his voice again.
"Sophia, what did you just say? Early pregnancy? You're pregnant?"
He felt like a huge surprise had crashed down on him. His head was a bit dizzy, and his excitement showed clearly.
He was so nervous he didn't know what to do with his hands, not daring to touch Sophia, afraid he might hurt her without realizing it.
Sophia smiled and nodded, her lips curving as she took his hand and placed it on her belly.
"It's been two months already. I didn't even think about pregnancy at first, but this afternoon my stomach felt uncomfortable, so I went to get checked out."
When she saw the test results, she didn't believe it at first, either. She felt this baby came too suddenly - she wasn't ready to be a mother yet.
It took her a while to finally accept reality.
Benjamin's palm gently pressed against Sophia's belly, feeling the warmth beneath.
It felt somewhat unreal to him. He couldn't believe there was already a little life inside Sophia's belly right now.
Only two months along - the baby's body hadn't formed yet, but Benjamin somehow felt that blood connection.
He reached out and carefully held Sophia, then hugged her tight.
He actually didn't like children - something he had never told Sophia.
But at this moment, he seemed to have changed his mind.
Having this little thing, looking like him or like Sophia, calling them mommy and daddy every day...
That actually seemed pretty nice.
Benjamin didn't sleep all night. He held Sophia gently and carefully, while an image of a baby slowly formed in his mind.
He had seen photos of himself as a child.
He had also seen Sophia as a child.
His looks were pretty good. Magnus and Amelia were both very attractive, so their genes were naturally excellent too.
His and Sophia's child would only be even better.
However, after Sophia had the baby, her attention would definitely be drawn away.
Would he lose favor then?
No way!
He absolutely couldn't let that happen!
He decided - if it was a girl, he'd keep her close and spoil her.
Whatever she wanted, she'd get. Benjamin's daughter should be a little princess held in everyone's palm.
If it were a son... that wasn't possible!
He believed this baby had to be a daughter. No what-ifs, no other possibilities.
The two-month-old baby didn't know yet that, before even taking shape, daddy was already playing favorites.
Preston was also very happy, his eyes full of excitement. "Good!"
He thought he wouldn't live to see this day, but his wish could actually come true in his lifetime.
Benjamin and Alaric chuckled softly, equally happy.
This was good news for the entire White family.
After Preston calmed down, Benjamin reminded him: "Grandpa, I want to keep this quiet for now. Don't let Lachlan know."
Hearing Lachlan's name, Preston's expression darkened too.
"Don't worry, I understand. Benjamin, you must protect Sophia well. Don't let her get hurt."
The heavy feeling that had been building in Preston's chest seemed to disappear instantly, and color returned to his face.
In great spirits, he ate more than usual at lunch.
Seeing his good appetite, Benjamin and Alaric kept putting food in his bowl, telling him to eat more.
Preston looked at the food piled like a small mountain in his bowl and couldn't help but laugh.
"That's enough, that's enough. Don't just focus on serving me - eat your own food too."
It was a warm and satisfying meal.
After eating, Benjamin couldn't wait to get back. He said goodbye to Preston and left.
Watching his hurried departure, Alaric shook his head helplessly.
"About to be a father, yet getting less composed by the day."
Though he complained, he felt relieved inside. Seeing Benjamin open up more and more made Alaric happy, too.
Before Sophia came to the White family, everyone said Benjamin wouldn't live much longer.
What good was keeping him alive with medicine? Just a waste of money.
But Alaric refused to believe it. He resolutely chose to study medicine.
Although he wasn't the one who ultimately cured the poison in Benjamin's body, it still fulfilled his wish.
Benjamin was still alive and well now, which proved that man can triumph over fate. Destiny is in your own hands and can be changed.
He hoped Benjamin's future would only get better.
"Stop teasing others when you don't even have a girlfriend yourself." Preston glanced at him.
Alaric helplessly touched his nose and explained with a smile: "Grandpa, I just haven't met the right woman yet. When I do, I'll definitely bring her home."
"Better be true. If not, go on some blind dates. Almost thirty years old and not worried about your own marriage at all." Preston started nagging.
Alaric smiled helplessly without responding and drove Preston straight back to the White Manor.
Marriage seemed very far away from him. He hadn't found the woman he wanted to spend his life with yet.
And he didn't want to settle when it came to relationships.
So he'd rather keep putting off dating.
As for Preston, he could only make excuses for now.
Once Benjamin's child was born, Preston probably wouldn't have time to worry about him.
At the White Manor, after Alaric dropped Preston off, he discovered Lachlan was still there.
Alaric was surprised and exchanged a glance with Preston.
Preston gave him a reassuring look and asked casually: "Lachlan, you haven't left yet?"
"Dad, I came to talk to you about something."
"Go ahead, why be formal with each other?"
Preston sat down on the sofa across from him. After decades in business, hiding emotions was a basic skill.
Alaric couldn't see any flaws in Preston's expression and felt admiration.
Preston was Preston indeed. Looked like he still had a lot to learn.
