Chapter 403 You Are the Boss in Our Family
"You think Tobias won't know just because I don't tell him?" Alaric shook his head helplessly.
Amelia had somehow gotten word that Benjamin was seriously injured and hospitalized, and went back to tell Tobias.
According to the Martinez family's servants, Amelia had never been this happy since returning to the Martinez Villa.
Tobias was so angry his blood pressure nearly shot up. He clutched his chest with one hand and pointed at the door with the other, telling her to leave.
Amelia left the Martinez Villa in tears and never went back.
For as long as Benjamin was unconscious, Amelia had practically disappeared for that same amount of time.
But he didn't plan to look for Amelia.
His feelings for Amelia had worn away long ago, with each time she spoke harshly to Benjamin.
He couldn't do what Benjamin did - completely cut ties with Amelia - but from now on, he didn't want anything to do with her either.
"Don't worry about her. Let her go wherever she wants. Best if she never comes back." A mocking look flashed in Benjamin's eyes.
He was practically a stranger to Amelia as a person, but instinctively he just couldn't like her.
Later, when he learned about the things she'd done to him, he felt even more disgusted by her.
Seems he hadn't been ruthless enough before - he'd only kicked Amelia out of the White family.
Alaric said nothing, just reached out and patted his shoulder. "You rest up. I'll handle these things."
"Thanks, Alaric." Benjamin looked at him, a slight smile flashing in his eyes.
Meeting those deep eyes of his, Alaric felt an inexplicable sourness in his chest.
"Who told me to be your brother?"
As the older brother, he had to look after his younger brother.
This was the principle Magnus had taught him since childhood.
Too bad... Magnus, who taught him these principles, had long since betrayed their family.
Coming back to himself, he gave Benjamin a few more instructions before leaving with Matthew.
After Matthew and Benjamin left, Sophia sat back down by the hospital bed. She reached out to hold Benjamin's hand and asked worriedly, "Do you want to rest a bit more? I'll have Harvest & Hearth send over some food later."
"I'm not hungry." Benjamin held Sophia's hand back, his thin lips slowly curving into a slight smile.
"You should still eat a little. You were unconscious for a whole day and night - how can you not eat anything?"
"Okay, who told you you're the boss in our house?"
"Good that you know it!"
Sophia lifted her chin proudly, and they smiled at each other.
Having slept for a day and night, even though it was already evening, Benjamin wasn't sleepy at all.
His deep eyes stared at Sophia without blinking, full of tender affection.
Sophia felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze and turned her head to look at him in confusion. "Is there something on my face? Why do you keep staring at me?"
"Beautiful."
His Sophia was the most beautiful girl in the world.
Before falling unconscious, he'd been worried about what would happen if Sophia found out he was injured.
But when he woke up again and saw Sophia lying by the bed, he realized his Sophia was stronger than he'd imagined.
Lost in his thoughts, he suddenly heard Sophia's soft voice.
She asked, "You've watched that video several times. Did you really not notice anything?"
Benjamin paused, then slowly shook his head.
It wasn't that he hadn't noticed - he just wasn't sure.
It seemed like it, but also didn't... He needed further confirmation.
But Valentin probably wouldn't appear again anytime soon.
Although he didn't know Valentin's true purpose, he was very clear that the other party just wanted to torment him, not kill him.
Otherwise, with GeneCipher Society's capabilities, he would have died ten thousand times already.
"It's okay, you rest up and don't think about these things." Sophia gently stroked his face and kissed his lips.
Feeling the soft sweetness from her lips, Benjamin's eyes darkened.
He wrapped one hand around Sophia's slender, soft waist and deepened the kiss.
Sophia had originally intended just a brief kiss, but who knew he would suddenly become forceful, holding her and refusing to let go.
She didn't know how long they kissed. Not until the air in her body was gradually taken away and she could barely breathe did he finally release her.
Sophia collapsed weakly against his chest, her chest rising and falling continuously from rapid breathing.
Her beautiful curves were fully displayed before Benjamin. He turned his face away with difficulty, his ears slightly flushed.
"Sorry, I couldn't help it."
"At a time like this, you're still thinking about these things?" Sophia grabbed his ear and twisted it, glaring at him disapprovingly.
Benjamin laughed helplessly. "Mrs. White, you don't know how attractive you are to your husband."
"I'm not talking to you anymore!" Sophia got down from the hospital bed, preparing to leave.
As soon as she got off the bed, her wrist was grabbed by a warm hand.
Benjamin's tense voice came from behind her. "Where are you going?"
Sophia paused and explained in a low voice, "Francis knows I'm at the hospital and assigned me a very important surgery."
Benjamin frowned. "You're not even their official employee. Why do you have to listen to them?"
Francis kept asking Sophia to help with surgeries - he couldn't bear to see Sophia work so hard.
Sophia heard the concern in his words. She leaned over and kissed his forehead. "Don't be upset, Mr. White. It's my choice."
Robert had said that studying medicine was to save people.
She knew that with her abilities, she couldn't cure everyone's illnesses, but when the hospital needed her, she was willing to help.
This was her original intention in studying medicine.
Benjamin also kissed her cheek and instructed in a low voice, "Then make sure to rest and don't work too hard."
"Okay, I'm leaving now?"
Sophia released Benjamin's hand and left the hospital room.
After she left, Benjamin lowered his eyelashes and fell into silence.
After who knows how long, he finally moved slowly and picked up his phone.
Before Sophia left, she had sent that surveillance video to his phone.
He opened the video again, staring at it over and over, from beginning to end, again and again.
Not until Chase came in with food containers from Harvest & Hearth did he move his gaze from the phone screen.
"Mr. White, this is the congee Mrs. White specially had the chef make for you. You can only eat light foods right now, so just make do with this for now."
Chase took out the dishes and congee from inside, chattering nonstop.
If anyone heard Chase's words, they would definitely be upset.
Harvest & Hearth's congee, no matter how plain, wasn't something ordinary people could afford to eat, yet he called it "making do."
However, in Chase's eyes, having Benjamin drink congee and eat these plain dishes was indeed too much of a compromise.
He set out the food, and seeing Benjamin still staring at his phone, couldn't help but remind him, "Mr. White, you should eat something. Mrs. White told me to supervise you."
Hearing Sophia's name, Benjamin resignedly picked up the congee and started eating.
From the corner of his eye, Chase caught a glimpse of the video playing on Benjamin's phone, and his heart felt a bit heavy.
"Mr. White, are you really sure this person is someone we know? I can't tell at all."
Mainly because the video footage was too blurry - you couldn't see anything clearly.
Benjamin shook his head with a heavy expression and drank a couple more sips of congee without saying a word.
