Chapter 387 I Prefer You Calling Me Husband
On the other side, Finnley got in the car with Sophia.
Sophia fastened her seatbelt and watched the scenery continuously retreating outside the window. She turned her head toward him, "This isn't the way home? Where are we going?"
"You'll know when we get there." Finnley's lips curved into a slight smile.
Sophia let out a soft hum, "Whatever, but you need to be quick. I still have to go home tonight to organize my research data."
"Didn't you already give the new formula to Matthew? Why do you still need to organize it?" Finnley frowned, his eyes full of displeasure.
Who treats people like this?
"The formula is the formula, research data is research data. I have my own research methods that can cross-verify with the lab's research results."
Actually, this formula had been in the works before Finnley came back. Later, they'd been living at the White Manor the whole time and couldn't find the time.
This afternoon, she'd simply compiled the data and given it to Matthew.
There was still a lot of data that hadn't been organized properly, which would need to be sent to the lab later.
Skincare products go on people's faces—you absolutely can't be careless. Every piece of data must be extremely precise.
This was being responsible to customers and to the Lumina Group.
"Do it tomorrow. It's already late today."
"Depends on the time. If we can get back early, I'll do it tonight. If we get back late, then tomorrow."
Matthew wasn't rushing her, but the Lumina Group needed to launch new products every quarter. The end of the quarter was approaching, and she didn't want to delay any longer.
"Hold on tight." Finnley suddenly spoke.
Before Sophia could react, she felt the car suddenly speed up.
She cried out in surprise, instinctively gripping the seatbelt across her chest tightly, "Finnley, what are you doing?"
"Don't worry, your husband's driving skills are pretty good. I guarantee I'll get you back early." Finnley smiled and sped up even more.
At nine o'clock at night, rush hour in the city center hadn't passed yet. Finnley drove the car, weaving through countless vehicles.
When the car stopped, Sophia patted her chest with lingering fear and looked out the window.
Seeing the courthouse not far away, she froze, "This is...?"
Finnley chuckled, got out of the car directly, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and said to Sophia inside, "Get out."
Sophia got out of the car in a daze, and her hand was immediately wrapped tightly in a large, warm palm.
She let him lead her as they walked inside.
"Why did you suddenly come here?"
"You'll know once we go in."
"At this hour... are they still working?"
"Don't worry, I made an appointment in advance before coming."
When they entered the courthouse gate, Sophia noticed someone waiting at the entrance.
Upon seeing her and Finnley, the person waved at them.
"Mr. White, this way please."
The person was a middle-aged man, probably in his forties, dressed simply but with a stern demeanor—clearly not an ordinary staff member.
Finnley nodded at him and pointed to Sophia to introduce her, "This is my wife Sophia. Sophia, this is Dorian Reid."
Sophia politely greeted Dorian, who smiled and nodded, "I've heard so much about you. I've long heard that Mrs. White is an excellent doctor who has developed many highly effective medicines. You've really brought honor to our country's pharmaceutical industry!"
When Dorian wasn't smiling, he looked very serious and not very approachable.
But when Dorian looked at Sophia, his eyes held admiration.
Sophia modestly waved her hand, "You're too kind. I'm just doing what I should do."
As they talked, Dorian led them into an office.
"Mr. White, did you bring your documents?"
"Yes." Finnley took out his documents. Sophia glanced at them and noticed there were two ID documents.
One had Finnley's name on it, the other had Benjamin's name.
As expected, both sets of identity information were real, including Finnley's.
She didn't know how Elijah had managed it. Some fake IDs, no matter how real they looked on the outside, were ultimately fake.
But according to the courthouse's investigation data, Finnley's identity information could actually be found.
Did this mean... GeneCipher Society had also planted people in these government departments?
This was simply terrifying.
Sophia looked up at Finnley and saw him gently shake his head without saying a word.
The process of canceling an identity wasn't complicated, and it was done quickly.
Coming out of the courthouse, Sophia took his ID documents and looked at them. Her fingertip landed on Benjamin's name, and she nodded with satisfaction.
"Now it looks much better."
Benjamin raised an eyebrow slightly, "What? You didn't like my previous name?"
"It's not that I didn't like it, it's just..." Sophia deliberately drew out her tone, trying to pique his curiosity.
"Then what do you mean?" he pressed.
Sophia thought for a moment and said seriously, "Don't get mad when I say this, but I felt like I was dating someone else."
After Sophia finished speaking, she didn't dare look Benjamin in the eyes at all. She took off running toward the car.
However, just as she opened the car door and before she could climb in, she was pulled back by a strong, powerful arm.
Her back crashed into a warm, solid chest.
"What are you doing?"
Sophia lifted her small face, her dewy eyes glaring at him.
Benjamin closed the car door with one hand and wrapped his other arm around Sophia's slender, soft waist, turning her around and pressing her against the car door.
"What do you mean, dating someone else?"
He leaned down, moving close to Sophia. His eyes gazed at her, his lips almost touching her earlobe.
The warm breath he exhaled while speaking all landed on the most sensitive skin behind Sophia's ear, as if forming countless electric currents sliding across her skin.
Creating a tingling sensation.
She scrunched up her neck and laughed awkwardly, "I was joking, don't take it seriously."
"What if I do take it seriously?" Benjamin pressed.
Sophia was left speechless by his question and simply resorted to acting unreasonable, "Then what do you want! It's your fault for not remembering me!"
In just a few words, Sophia had pushed all the blame onto Benjamin.
Now it was Benjamin's turn to be speechless.
He sighed helplessly, bracing one hand against the car while gently stroking Sophia's cheek with the other.
"From now on... there will be no more Finnley, only Benjamin."
"A Benjamin who belongs only to you."
Benjamin gently pressed his forehead against hers, rubbing gently, and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
That kiss was gentle and tender, untainted by any desire, yet indescribably devoted.
Sophia wrapped her arms around his neck, holding tight, unwilling to let go.
A tear rolled down from the corner of her eye.
After a long while, she finally responded with a sound.
Benjamin looked at her and slowly placed his lips at the corner of her eye, "Don't cry anymore. From now on, we'll both be fine. We'll never be separated again."
Sophia opened her eyes and met his gaze, "Did you change your name... for me, or because you wanted to?"
Finnley had only recovered a small portion of his memories. She was afraid he changed his name back just for her sake.
That would only make her feel more guilty.
"Silly girl, your thoughts are my thoughts. I am Finnley, and I am Benjamin, but no matter who I am, my feelings for you are the same."
The same deep love.
Never changed.
"So do you prefer me calling you Finnley or Benjamin?"
Sophia sniffled, her eyes wet and glistening as she stared at him.
Looking at him until his heart was about to melt.
He cupped Sophia's face, giving her no chance to resist, and kissed her lips directly.
His kiss was passionate and caught her off guard.
Sophia had no time to react at all.
In her daze, she heard Benjamin's deep voice tinged with laughter, "I still prefer it when you call me honey."
