Chapter 364 Lips Bit Until Skin Broke
Early the next morning, Sophia woke up very early, her mind fixed on the half piece of cake she hadn't finished.
Seeing Finnley beside her with his eyes closed, still sleeping, Sophia felt a surge of joy. She quietly moved his hand aside, wanting to sneak out of bed.
But the moment she moved, Finnley, who had been sound asleep, suddenly placed his hand on her waist again.
This time, Finnley held her even tighter than before.
Sophia: "......"
For a moment, she couldn't tell whether Finnley was really asleep or just pretending.
She huffed and pushed against Finnley's chest, then gave up and lay back down. Before long, she fell asleep again.
So she missed seeing the slight upward curve of Finnley's lips.
Feeling the soft, steady breathing from the person in his arms, Finnley suddenly opened his eyes, his deep gaze full of amusement.
"Cake... so good..."
Just then, some sleep talk came from the person in his arms. Her cherry-red lips opened and closed, smacking together continuously.
Was the cake really that good? Even dreaming about it?
Finnley couldn't help but chuckle softly. He leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
Deep in sleep, Sophia dreamed she was eating soft cake and eagerly took a bite.
But the taste seemed different from the sweet cream she'd imagined—it was a familiar, crisp scent.
A slight pain came from his lips. Finnley drew in a sharp breath, his eyes immediately darkening.
Fortunately, Sophia quickly released his lip, turned over in his arms, and fell back into deep sleep.
Finnley noticed the change in his body and couldn't help cursing under his breath.
He raised his hand to touch his lip and found that Sophia had broken the skin.
A metallic taste spread between his lips and teeth—she'd bitten down pretty hard.
Meanwhile, Sophia, who had gotten him into this state... was sleeping soundly, occasionally smacking her lips, looking completely content.
A low sigh echoed through the large room, then quickly faded away.
When Sophia woke up, it was already bright outside. Rays of light filtered through the half-drawn curtains, falling on Sophia's body.
She lazily stretched and found that the space beside her was already empty.
It wasn't until a servant came knocking that Sophia slowly climbed out of bed.
The servant had been waiting outside the door. Seeing her come out, she immediately asked, "Mrs. White, breakfast is ready. Would you like to eat now or wait a bit?"
Sophia shuffled down the steps in her slippers. Hearing this, she paused, "I'll eat now. And please bring out the cake Finnley bought last night."
"Alright, I'll get it right away." The servant smiled and walked into the kitchen, bringing out the food that had been kept warm.
Sophia looked down at her breakfast, occasionally glancing at the little cake.
Even though she wasn't eating it yet, it was as if the sweet smell had already filled her nose. She ate her meal absentmindedly.
After breakfast ended, Sophia couldn't wait to open the cake box and start eating.
But she'd only eaten half when Emma rushed in from outside, her face full of anxiety and panic.
"Emma, what happened? Don't worry, take your time."
Emma was out of breath, pointing toward the entrance, "Mrs. White, there's a man outside claiming to be your father, here to see you."
"Hayden? He's back in the country?" Sophia was surprised for a moment, then quickly calmed down. "Go tell him I'm not available."
"Okay, I'll go right away." Just as Emma finished speaking, they heard a commotion from outside.
"Let me in! Mrs. White is my own daughter! Is this how you treat Mrs. White's father?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Sophia's expression turned cold. She walked toward the living room entrance, "Let him in."
She wanted to see what exactly Hayden was up to.
Seeing Sophia give in, Hayden felt pleased. He forcefully shook off the servants blocking him and strode inside.
"See that? Mrs. White told me to come in. What right do you lowly people have to stop me?"
When they heard "lowly people," the servants' faces immediately darkened.
Though their status wasn't high, they earned their money through honest work—they didn't steal or rob. Did that mean they deserved to be insulted?
Sophia looked at him coldly and said quietly to the servants, "You all go about your business. Don't mind him."
After getting a clear look at Hayden, she couldn't help but pause, then a mocking smile curved her lips.
The Hayden before her looked completely disheveled, wearing a faded white T-shirt and pants that were clearly too big for him.
Though his hair showed signs of being trimmed, it revealed a face that had aged more than ten years.
Two years ago, Hayden had been handsome and well-maintained. Though his character wasn't great, he'd looked respectable on the outside.
He'd even had that air that only successful people possess.
But now, his eyes had lost their light, leaving only endless weariness—you could even say wretchedness.
"What are you here for?"
Hayden's gaze swept over Sophia, and he couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
In just two years, Sophia, the daughter he'd looked down on most, had become someone above others.
Someone he could only look up to.
He smiled at Sophia, "Of course I came to see my daughter."
"Isn't Isabella your daughter? She's not at the White Manor." Sophia crossed her arms, looking at him calmly.
Hayden was stumped by her words and sneered, "Sophia, you should thank me. If I hadn't let you marry into the White family, how could you possibly be living such a good life now?"
Sophia laughed too—she was laughing at his shamelessness.
"Mr. Brown, back then when you heard my husband wouldn't live much longer, you pushed me forward. Now that I'm doing well, you say it's thanks to you? How can you have the nerve?"
Even if she hadn't married into the White family, she could still have lived well.
Besides, if she hadn't recognized Benjamin early on, with his cold personality, he probably wouldn't have agreed to the marriage.
"I don't care. All the benefits went to you. If it weren't for you, Isabella would have been the one to marry in. You should compensate me!"
After struggling at the bottom in Celestria for two years, Hayden had long forgotten what shame meant.
"So you're here for money?"
Hayden laughed out loud, "Good that you know. If you give me money, we'll call it even. If you won't, I'll go to Preston myself and make everything go back to how it should be."
Sophia looked at him calmly, "What do you mean by 'how it should be'? Have Benjamin divorce me and marry Isabella?"
"Of course. Our Isabella is beautiful and knows best how to please men. Benjamin will definitely like her. Unlike you... cold and heartless, your conscience has been eaten by dogs."
This time, not only Sophia but even the servants secretly listening nearby were shocked by his words.
How... how could there be such a shameless person in the world?
