Chapter 320 Be Conscientious with Talent, Not with Other Things
Sophia's face darkened as she retorted coldly, "What I do is none of your business. You'd be better off minding your own affairs!"
Even though she knew Amelia had been under Dashiell's mind control for over a decade, hearing these insults still made Sophia angry.
The Martinez family was after all a prominent family in Silverlight City, yet they had raised someone like Amelia—so domineering and arrogant.
The contemptuous look in Sophia's eyes deeply provoked Amelia.
Sophia would have been better off staying quiet, but once she spoke, she directly enraged Amelia.
If it weren't for Sophia, how could Benjamin have possibly kicked her, his own biological mother, out of the house?
Who knew what kind of life she had been living at the Martinez Villa during this time?
Ignoring the attempts of several ladies to stop her, she rushed forward and raised her arm to slap Sophia across the face.
Sophia felt a gust of wind blow past. Her eyes sharpened as she prepared to fight back.
At that moment, a slender, pale hand reached out from behind her, firmly gripping Amelia's wrist and flinging it away forcefully.
Amelia, wearing high heels, lost her balance from the throw and fell straight to the ground.
Amelia felt pain all over her body, so much that she screamed.
She angrily looked up, then suddenly froze.
The next second, her pupils contracted violently. The look she gave Finnley gradually filled with fear and unease as her body kept backing away.
"You, you are... Benjamin?"
"No, how is this possible? Benjamin is dead! Who are you?"
"A ghost? You're a ghost, aren't you? Don't come looking for me, don't..."
Finnley frowned, his heart sinking.
He had heard before that Amelia had mental problems, but he didn't expect them to be this severe.
However, he felt not a shred of sympathy for her, because she didn't deserve it.
Sophia tugged at his sleeve, stood on her tiptoes, and whispered in his ear, "She was hypnotized for a long time and is still in the recovery phase. Don't bother arguing with a mentally ill person."
Sophia wasn't trying to let Amelia off the hook; she just felt there was no point wasting time arguing with a mental patient.
She slowly walked up to Amelia and looked down at her. "Ms. Martinez, has anyone ever told you not to meddle in other people's business? You say I'm embarrassing the White family—what does the White family have to do with you?"
Magnus had long since divorced Amelia. The White family had nothing to do with Amelia anymore.
What Sophia did, whether it embarrassed the White family or not, should be judged by actual White family members.
Not by an outsider like her pointing fingers.
"You!"
Amelia was furious at her words. She looked coldly at Finnley. "I'm your real mother! How dare you let Sophia bully me? Do you have no conscience?"
"Conscience? That's for people. For other things... it's not needed." Finnley's lips curved slightly. Though his tone was calm, it carried an indescribable coldness.
Things?
He actually said she wasn't even human, just a thing?
A flash of hatred crossed Amelia's eyes.
The ladies nearby were shocked by Finnley's sudden appearance. Their faces were all pale, their eyes filled with disbelief.
Hadn't they said that Benjamin of the White family was already dead?
Then who was this man standing here now?
Earlier, when they heard Amelia say the White family's granddaughter-in-law was having an affair, they thought they'd hear some juicy gossip about a wealthy family today.
But unexpectedly... they didn't hear any gossip. Instead, they saw Benjamin, who was supposed to be dead, standing right in front of them, alive and well.
Finnley stood openly, letting everyone examine him, not at all afraid of being exposed.
Even Sophia and the White family couldn't see through him—how much less could these outsiders?
He walked up to Amelia and said coldly, "If I see you bullying Sophia again, don't blame me for not being polite."
Amelia shivered violently. Images of being kicked out of the house suddenly flashed through her mind, and she couldn't say a word.
Meeting Finnley's icy gaze, Amelia fearfully shrank back.
Finnley snorted coldly, took Sophia's hand, and left.
As soon as he left, the oppressive atmosphere that had filled the air instantly dissipated completely.
Everyone slowly breathed a sigh of relief.
So terrifying.
Benjamin's eyes were like ice-cold knives, cold and sharp, making people's hearts race with fear.
Amelia stared hard at the retreating figures of Finnley and Sophia, a glint of hatred flashing in her eyes.
Finnley hadn't gone far when he sensed a malicious gaze from behind. His steps paused slightly, and he slowly turned around.
Those hawk-like eyes precisely locked onto Amelia, startling her so much that she hastily looked away.
Finnley sneered inwardly. So there really were mothers in this world who didn't love their own children.
Walking out of the mall, Chase had already driven the car to the entrance and was about to come in to find them.
"Mr. White, Mrs. White, you're finally out."
"Something came up and delayed us." Sophia explained quietly, pulling Finnley's hand as they got into the car.
"Chase, to the airport."
A flash of surprise showed in Chase's eyes. He looked up through the rearview mirror toward the back seat and asked, "Mrs. White, where are you and Mr. White planning to go?"
"Harmony City." Sophia was brief and to the point.
Finnley looked at Sophia with surprise but said nothing.
Chase, however, asked nervously, "Mrs. White, the incident happened in Harmony City last time. Do you need me to call more bodyguards to go with you this time?"
"No need. Matthew and Robert are both in Harmony City. They'll arrange people to protect Finnley and me."
Hearing this, Chase could only nod and said nothing more.
Before leaving, Sophia specifically instructed, "Someone will probably try to cause trouble for the White family in the near future. Tell Alaric to be more careful."
"Who would be so bold as to move against the White family in Silverlight City?" Chase asked in disbelief.
Silverlight City was the White family's territory. Someone actually dared to move against the White family on their own turf? Were they looking for death?
Sophia pressed her lips together and said, "People from that organization could be hiding in the shadows at any time. It's always better to be careful. I don't want the tragedy from two years ago to happen again."
After saying this, she pushed open the car door and got out, closing it behind her, then walked toward the airport with Finnley.
Throughout the journey, Finnley cooperatively followed Sophia, not asking a single question or showing any impatience.
They took a private jet to Harmony City. On the plane, Sophia drowsily leaned on Benjamin's shoulder and fell asleep.
Sophia had a little habit—after any particularly exhausting surgery or experiment, she would sleep to recover her energy.
But after the surgery ended, she hadn't had time to rest.
Now on the plane, Sophia couldn't help but start feeling drowsy.
At first, her eyelids began to feel heavy.
Sophia's appearance, so sleepy she couldn't keep her eyes open, was endearing.
Finnley helplessly reached out and pulled her into his arms.
His warm palm gently stroked her hair as he softly coaxed, "Sleep for a while. I'll wake you when we arrive."
