Chapter 314 I Have Always Been Here
Sophia was still awake, just as he expected. She scooted inward, looking like she didn't want to deal with him.
As Finnley cautiously approached step by step, she kept backing away.
Finally, Sophia's entire body was hanging off the edge of the bed, just one more inch and she would fall off.
Finnley sighed helplessly, stretched out his long arm, pulled her from the edge of the bed into his embrace, and held her tightly.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said those things to you."
Tears immediately fell from Sophia's eyes, streaming down from the corners and slowly disappearing into her thick hair.
She bit her lip, not letting herself make a sound.
Finnley held Sophia, his large palm gently patting her back, comforting her: "I'm here, go to sleep."
Perhaps she was tired from crying, or maybe Finnley's voice was too gentle - either way, Sophia soon fell asleep.
Crystal tears still hung at the corners of her eyes, and she occasionally sobbed, looking utterly pitiful.
Finnley gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, unconsciously leaning closer.
This movement seemed like something he had done a thousand times in dreams, so practiced it had become almost instinctive.
Just as his lips were about to touch hers, he suddenly snapped back to reality. He sat up from the bed and rushed into the bathroom in panic.
When the cold water poured down on him, Finnley's rationality finally returned. His chest was still heaving violently, and the restlessness inside him hadn't completely subsided.
When he came out of the bathroom, more than twenty minutes had passed.
Sophia slept peacefully, still in the same position, curled up in a ball.
He stood on the balcony, lit a cigarette, and the smell of nicotine filled the air, slowly suppressing his irritable mood.
After finishing the cigarette, Finnley took out his phone and made a call.
"Mr. White? Still up this late?"
Chase was sitting in his office handling documents when he suddenly received Finnley's call.
When they met during the day, he learned that Benjamin had lost his memory, so he thoughtfully handed him his business card.
He didn't expect Finnley to call so soon - this was an unexpected pleasant surprise for him.
Finnley pressed his lips together, his expression dark and deep. After a long silence, he slowly instructed: "Put together a file on my past, as detailed as possible."
Chase was stunned, not immediately understanding. "What kind of file?"
"Everything about Benjamin from the White family, from birth until two years ago."
After hanging up, Finnley sat down in the rocking chair on the balcony.
The rocking chair was delicate and pretty, decorated with some cute cartoon characters, childishly adorable.
It was clearly prepared for Sophia.
And it was actually quite comfortable.
She really knew how to enjoy life. The lighting here was great - lying here normally must be very pleasant and comfortable.
Finnley turned his head to glance into the room, feeling a flash of complexity in his heart.
He and Sophia had only known each other for two days, yet it felt like they had known each other for a long time.
Before tonight, he had always been certain about his identity.
But now, he was wavering.
Were there really two people in this world who looked exactly the same?
Even if there were, what were the chances they would have almost identical habits too?
And now... probably in love with the same person too.
But if he was Benjamin, where did those complete memories in his mind come from?
He wanted to think deeper, but just then, a sharp pain suddenly came.
It was like a hand forcefully tearing at his brain nerves, preventing him from thinking further.
He held his head in both hands, and from suppressing the pain, the veins on his forehead bulged, his vision spun, as if he would faint to the ground the next second.
His tall figure curled up in the rocking chair. After who knows how long, the intense pain gradually disappeared.
Finnley lay there exhausted, cold sweat forming on his forehead, gasping for breath.
Just then, his phone suddenly vibrated. It was Chase calling.
Finnley forced himself to calm down, got up and answered the call, "Hello?"
Having gone through that uncontrolled torture, his voice was now extremely hoarse.
Chase noticed something was wrong and asked worriedly: "Mr. White, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. The file?"
"The file is ready, I'm already downstairs."
Finnley hung up the phone, walked to the bed to check on Sophia, saw she was sleeping soundly, tucked in the corners of her blanket, then quietly left the room.
A black car was parked outside the White Manor. Finnley walked straight over, opened the door, and got into the passenger seat.
"The file." He was brief and to the point.
Chase quickly handed him the iPad, explaining: "All the information is on here."
Chase was very efficient. Benjamin's information was clear at a glance.
From birth until two years ago.
Interests, age, habits, hobbies, even his zodiac sign was included.
It had to be said, this was an extremely impressive life resume.
Finnley's gaze fell on the photo, and he paused.
The man in the photo had sharp features, three-dimensional facial structure, eyebrows like an eagle's talons, and even in a photo, he radiated a kingly authority that looked down on the world.
This face was identical to his.
Finnley suddenly remembered what Sophia had said to him a few days ago and asked: "Are there any other photos?"
"There are." Chase hesitated for a moment and asked, "Mr. White, what kind do you want?"
"Photos from behind." Finnley's legs were crossed, his slender fingers gently tapping on his knee, his expression deep and cold, impossible to read.
"There actually is one." Chase quickly opened his phone's photo album, searched carefully, and held it up to him.
Finnley took Chase's phone and swiped his finger across the screen to enlarge the photo.
His gaze fell on the man's ear in the photo.
This position was very hidden, normally people wouldn't notice, but when enlarged and looked at carefully, you could indeed see a mole.
He reached up to touch his own ear and instructed, "Turn on the car light and take a photo of me at this same angle."
Chase looked at the photo, then at Finnley, and couldn't help asking: "Mr. White, you're not still doubting your identity, are you?"
"Just take the photo when I tell you to." Finnley gave him a cold glance.
Feeling Finnley's gaze, Chase shrank his neck in fear and didn't dare say anything more.
Chase took a photo of Finnley at the same angle as the one in the picture.
Finnley took it and compared them, his eyes darkening.
Sure enough, just as he suspected, these two moles were in exactly the same position.
Could there really be such a coincidence in this world?
Chase looked at Finnley's expression and reminded him in a low voice: "Mr. White, people's memories can be altered. Psychological hypnotists can do that, of course... they'd need to be extremely professionally skilled."
Such people weren't easy to find, but that didn't mean they didn't exist.
After a pause, he continued: "Mrs. White specifically investigated these past two days. The psychologist who treated your mother Amelia before, Dashiell - his real identity is Veridian's top psychological hypnotist, Dr. X."
"Sophia? When did she investigate this?"
Sophia had been by his side these past two days, hadn't she? How did he not know about this?
Chase chuckled, showing a proud expression. "Mr. White, you don't really think Mrs. White is some naive woman who knows nothing about the world, do you? That would be a big mistake."
If Sophia didn't have real skills, how could their subordinates be so convinced by her?
What he didn't mention was that Sophia had directly hacked the International Hypnotist Association headquarters' official website to pull out Dashiell's information.
He and Matthew had both sent people to investigate before, but the results showed the identity was fine.
It had to be said, Sophia was still the best!
Finnley laughed in spite of himself. So Sophia had such strong abilities?
But thinking about it carefully, he wasn't that surprised. She seemed to naturally radiate light, making people want to get close to her.
However... Dr. X? Was this the same person he knew?
Finnley's eyes narrowed slightly, a dark gleam flashing in them.
