Chapter 309 No Girlfriend, No Fiancée
When she looked at him like that, Finnley felt his scalp tingle.
He didn't know what was wrong with him, but a strong survival instinct suddenly surged up.
He hurriedly explained, "No girlfriend, no fiancée either."
There were hardly any women around him.
In the organization, he only thought about staying alive. Nothing else mattered.
After the words left his mouth, Finnley suddenly froze.
Why was he explaining himself to Sophia?
He wasn't really Benjamin.
Sophia seemed quite satisfied with his answer. The corners of her lips curved up, and she asked again, "Really none?"
Finnley: "Really none."
Hearing this, Chase and Eldon both breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness... they knew it. Benjamin had always been so upright - how could he possibly be interested in any woman other than Sophia?
Sophia's two years of waiting hadn't been in vain.
When Chase thought about what Sophia had endured these past two years, he couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
The tears he'd finally managed to stop started falling again. He grabbed Eldon's sleeve and wiped his eyes over and over.
A perfectly good suit now had several wet spots on it. Eldon, with his extreme OCD, wanted nothing more than to take off the clothes right then and throw them away.
But at the moment, he had more important things to do.
"Mr. White, since you're back, should I arrange for you to return to the company?"
Just then, Alaric came out and said quietly, "Eldon, you go make the arrangements. I've been managing things all this time, but now that Benjamin's back, the company should naturally be returned to him."
Finnley frowned and refused, "No need. Right now... I haven't recovered my memory yet. I'm afraid I won't be able to handle many things properly."
But Alaric waved his hand dismissively. "Your memory may be gone, but your abilities are still there. Plus, you have two capable assistants in Eldon and Chase. You'll definitely manage."
In truth, these past two years he'd finally experienced how hard it was to run the company.
Before, many people had heard that Preston passed over him to hand the company to Benjamin, and they tried to use this to drive a wedge between the brothers.
But only he knew in his heart that he had voluntarily given up his inheritance rights to the company.
He studied medicine partly because he genuinely liked it, and partly because he wanted to quickly find a way to cure the poison in Benjamin's body.
Facts proved his choice was right.
These past two years, he'd been up early and working late every day. Various business meetings and projects came one after another - there was no time to rest at all.
Now that Benjamin was finally back, he could finally escape this nightmare of a life.
"No thanks. Alaric, you must have gotten the hang of the company's business these past two years, right? So just keep managing it from now on." Finnley patted Alaric's shoulder with a half-smile.
He came here for Sophia, not to help them make money for the White Group.
He wasn't stupid enough for that.
Alaric looked at him in surprise. "Then what are you going to do?"
"Me?" Finnley reached out to put his arm around Sophia's shoulder, pulling her into his embrace, and said with a smile, "We haven't seen each other in two years. Of course I need to spend quality time with my wife."
Single Alaric: "..."
Sure enough, his own brother always knew how to twist the knife in his heart.
Was he being picked on for not having a wife?
He'd go find one soon!
Finnley and Sophia smiled at each other, waved at Alaric and said, "Alaric, good luck! The hopes of our whole family are in your hands now."
Alaric: "..."
He'd seen people set others up before, but never a married couple working together to set someone up.
Watching Finnley and Sophia walk away embracing each other, Alaric let out a deep sigh.
"Chase, why aren't you following them? What if something happens to Mr. White and Mrs. White?"
Chase paused, then immediately understood what Alaric meant.
It seemed Alaric still wasn't completely at ease about Benjamin.
That made sense. Benjamin had lost his memory now - no, his memory had been tampered with by someone.
This was like a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
They believed Benjamin would never hurt Sophia, but they didn't trust the organization behind all this.
Chase acknowledged and hurried out after them.
Outside, Finnley looked down at Sophia and asked, "Where are we going?"
"A bar." Sophia waved her phone and explained, "My cousin found out you're back and sent me a message, asking me to bring you to meet up."
"Adelaide?"
Finnley remembered he did have a female cousin, but hadn't met her yet.
Sophia smiled and shook her head. "No, my cousin - Elodie from the Smith family, and my best friend Hannah."
Yes, best friend.
These past two years, during her saddest and most difficult times, Hannah had been there with her.
Their relationship had been good to begin with, and after two years together, they'd become even closer.
Although Hannah could be too spoiled sometimes, she had a good heart.
"Alright then, I'll keep you company no matter what." Finnley walked to the car, opened the passenger door, and made a welcoming gesture.
Sophia raised an eyebrow. "How did you know this is the car you usually drive?"
Finnley froze, then looked at the car beside him.
A black Rolls-Royce Phantom - it was the car he drove most often.
So it was also the car Benjamin drove most often?
Seemed like their preferences were remarkably similar.
His eyes flickered, then he laughed lightly. "Men all like expensive cars. Nothing unusual about that."
Sophia gave a faint acknowledgment without calling him out on it, and got straight into the passenger seat.
After she was seated, Finnley closed the door, got into the driver's seat, stepped on the gas, and followed the GPS directions to the bar Sophia had mentioned.
Cask & Clover, VIP room.
Elodie and Hannah were waiting eagerly, glancing toward the door every now and then.
"Why aren't they here yet? Did something happen?"
"Hannah, do you think Benjamin really came back?"
Elodie felt very uneasy.
Because she had been at the scene two years ago when Benjamin had his accident.
She saw Benjamin jump into the sea with her own eyes. She saw the bomb explode with her own eyes.
When she heard the news that Benjamin was still alive, her first reaction was that it was impossible.
Hannah propped her chin on one hand while holding a wine glass in the other, taking a sip.
Hearing Elodie's words, she scoffed lightly. "Who knows? All I know is that Sophia's been heartbroken these past two years."
Elodie nodded in agreement, and soon she and Hannah were united in their cause, cursing Benjamin several times over.
Steven and Cillian beside them looked at each other helplessly.
Why did women hold grudges like this?
They didn't quite understand.
Just then, Finnley and Sophia walked in holding hands.
After getting a clear look at Finnley's face, Elodie and Hannah's eyes filled with shock and disbelief.
"You... you're really alive?"
Elodie stared blankly at Finnley's face, unable to react for a long time.
Back then, they had searched the sea for several days straight and came up with nothing.
Everyone thought he was dead. Only Sophia, all by herself, insisted that he must still be alive.
