Chapter 276 Being Followed
After leaving the airport, Chase was waiting outside. Sophia and Benjamin got in the car and gave him an address.
Although Chase was curious about why they were going to Sophia's hometown, as a qualified assistant, he wisely didn't ask Benjamin.
Sophia looked out the window at the rapidly passing scenery, her lips pressed tightly together, her expression heavy.
Suddenly, a warm, large hand gripped hers tightly.
She turned her head and met Benjamin's deep, dark eyes. For some reason, her chaotic thoughts instantly felt smoothed over, and she wasn't so nervous anymore.
She squeezed Benjamin's hand back, their fingers interlocking, and gave him a faint smile.
This trip back, she wanted to thoroughly go through the books on Robert's bookshelf to see if she could find any substitute medicines.
Ideally, she'd find medicines with similar effects that were more common. Otherwise, with so many missing children, making enough antidote would be impossible.
Although Sophia had an excellent memory since childhood and could remember things after seeing them once, she always felt like something had been overlooked.
Only by going to see for herself could she feel at ease.
Benjamin didn't ask much, just pulled her into his arms, his palm gently patting her shoulder, silently comforting her.
As Sophia was thinking seriously, a man's cold, suppressed voice suddenly came from above her head, "Chase, drive faster. Lose that car behind us."
"Someone's following us?" Sophia immediately lifted her head from his embrace and looked toward the back of the car.
There was indeed a car behind them, keeping a moderate distance.
Chase drove to an intersection and turned directly. The car behind also turned in the same direction.
It maintained that moderate distance the whole way, clearly deliberately following them.
Benjamin's expression could no longer be described as just gloomy. His deep eyes flickered with cold, dark light, staring fixedly at the car reflected in the rearview mirror.
Chase cursed under his breath, stepped on the gas, and the car instantly sped up.
The car behind also accelerated but still didn't dare get too close, apparently still somewhat wary.
Benjamin looked at Sophia's face, thinking she was scared, and said in a low voice to comfort her, "Don't worry, this is the White family's territory. They might not make a move."
He wasn't sure yet who exactly was following them, so he could only try to lose them first.
But the car behind wasn't easy to shake off either. No matter how fast Chase drove, they could quickly catch up.
Even knowing they'd been exposed, they still pursued relentlessly, making people wonder what their real purpose was.
In the car behind, a slightly overweight middle-aged man stared viciously at the car ahead.
His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, veins bulging on the back of his hands.
In the passenger seat sat a man about the same age, wearing sunglasses and a gold chain.
In his pants pocket, he had hidden a gun.
"What are you doing? Hurry up and keep up! If we lose them, let's see how the boss deals with you!" the sunglasses man complained to the driver.
The driver glanced at him coldly, "If you can do better, you drive. If you can't, shut up!"
The sunglasses man was instantly left speechless.
The driver kept his eyes fixed on the car ahead and said in a deep voice, "We've been exposed. Ask the boss what we should do next."
The sunglasses man reluctantly opened his phone and called their so-called boss.
"The boss says to just kidnap them directly." The sunglasses man's tone was cold and vicious, with a sinister edge that made people shudder.
Sophia and Benjamin sat in the car ahead, their expressions grave.
To be followed right after returning meant either the other party knew their movements, or they'd been waiting there all along.
Soon, that car caught up and drove parallel to them.
The car's window rolled down, revealing two unfamiliar faces.
"Ms. Brown, Mr. White, our boss would like to catch up with you."
Benjamin and Sophia exchanged glances and also rolled down their window.
Benjamin leaned back against the rear seat, looking relaxed, with a half-smile on his lips, "Catch up? So, an old acquaintance then?"
The sunglasses man froze, realizing he'd said the wrong thing, and shouted to cover it up, "Cut the crap. You're coming whether you like it or not."
"My time is very valuable. If someone wants to see me, they need to be qualified enough." Benjamin's eyes narrowed slightly, releasing a hint of dangerous light.
The sunglasses man scratched his head, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Mr. White, since you won't take the easy way, don't blame us for getting rough!"
The driver snorted coldly, then turned the steering wheel and rammed straight into Benjamin's car.
This sudden impact made Sophia's body sway uncontrollably, leaning forward and nearly hitting the back of the front seat.
Benjamin quickly put his hand in front of her forehead, holding her tightly in his arms, his eyes instantly turning cold.
Sophia was also angry, not expecting the other party to be so arrogant.
After Chase pulled the car away from the one behind, Sophia told him to stop by the roadside.
Chase hesitated, using his eyes to ask Benjamin.
After getting his confirmation, Chase pulled the car over to the side.
Sophia pushed the door open and got out, "Chase, get out."
Chase obediently complied. He still didn't know what was happening, but when he came to his senses, he found Sophia had already taken the driver's seat.
He had no choice but to run to the passenger side.
But just as he opened the door and was about to get in, a sharp gaze suddenly swept over, like an ice-cold blade, as if it would slice him to pieces the next second.
Chase quickly gave up the seat and obediently went to sit in the back.
He hadn't expected Benjamin to be so petty after getting into a relationship, not even willing to let anyone else sit in Sophia's passenger seat.
As a single person, his life was too hard.
It made him want to cry just thinking about it!
Benjamin expressionlessly opened the passenger door and got in.
"Hold on tight." After he fastened his seatbelt, Sophia stepped on the gas and the car shot forward.
The speed was incredible, the scenery by the roadside reduced to almost nothing but afterimages.
Chase wasn't prepared and his body suddenly lurched, nervously gripping the handle above his head.
There were many cars on the road. From above, a black car sped past at incredible speed, weaving rapidly through the traffic, quickly leaving the car following them far behind.
The moment she took the driver's seat, Sophia's aura suddenly changed.
Sophia, who was usually soft and gentle, now had sharp eyes and exuded a killing intent.
Sophia's driving movements were smooth and fluid. Chase watched in amazement, too impressed to speak.
He hadn't expected Sophia to have such skills.
Sophia's driving technique was no worse than those top race car drivers, skilled and swift, impossible to predict.
