Chapter 262 Eldest Uncle
Francis smiled and explained, "You know Elijah, right? He came to Harmony City a few days ago. I met with him, and he told me about it."
"Elijah came to Harmony City?" Sophia asked in surprise.
Benjamin turned to look at her, his eyes dark and deep, making his expression unreadable.
"Yes, there was a conference a few days ago. Many medical experts from home and abroad attended. I originally wanted to take you to see it, but I heard you were busy recently, so I didn't call you."
"Francis, which hospital are you at?" Sophia asked again.
Francis told Sophia the name of the hospital - it happened to be the same one where Maddox was staying.
"What a coincidence, I'm heading there right now. I'm already on my way."
"Call me when you arrive, and I'll have someone come out to meet you."
After hanging up, Sophia looked at Benjamin, who was driving, with a somewhat complicated expression.
"What's wrong?" Noticing Sophia's gaze, Benjamin asked in confusion.
Sophia pondered for a moment, didn't immediately answer his question, but asked instead, "Have you been in contact with Elijah recently?"
"No, I've been busy handling work these past few days. Where would I find time to contact him?" Benjamin was very confused.
Sophia's heart suddenly sank, and her face became more serious.
"So how did he know we'd be coming to Harmony City today?"
Benjamin suddenly slammed on the brakes and pulled the car over to the side of the road.
Sophia wasn't prepared and her body lurched forward. She glared at him angrily, "Can't you give me a heads up before you brake?"
"Sorry." Benjamin touched his nose, his eyes full of apology.
He reached out and tidied Sophia's messy hair, then said in a low voice, "It must have been Grandpa or Alaric who told him. Alaric met with him a few days ago. If Elijah really had a problem, why would he wait until now?"
Elijah had been helping him treat his condition for over ten years.
All these years, he had suffered from the torment of the poison attacks, and it was only through Elijah's medication that he managed to get through them.
Although his condition hadn't improved much over the years, Elijah had done his best.
Besides, Elijah was also Alaric's mentor and had shown him great kindness, so it was hard for Benjamin to suspect him.
"You're right, maybe I'm being too sensitive. Let's go to the hospital first and talk about this later." Sophia also felt she might be overthinking.
Although she hadn't had much contact with Elijah, she knew something about him. His professional level was among the best in the country, and he was also Robert's junior.
As Benjamin said, if Elijah really wanted to harm them, he'd had countless opportunities before. Why would he choose now and expose himself in such an obvious way?
Soon, the car arrived at the hospital.
Sophia and Benjamin walked in and saw a familiar figure waving at them from a distance.
"Sophia! Mr. White."
"Lowell?" Sophia looked in surprise at the man walking toward them. Wasn't he at Vast Mountain? How did he end up in Harmony City?
Seeing the confusion in Sophia's eyes, Lowell explained, "Well, I was at that hospital for training before, and now I've been officially transferred to Harmony City."
"So you're not going back anymore?" Sophia asked.
Lowell nodded, his eyes fixed intently on Sophia.
Actually, he had initially wanted to go to Silverlight City, so he could have more opportunities to be near her. But Francis said he hoped he could return to Harmony City.
He hesitated for a long time. Before making his final decision, he had sent Sophia a message asking if she was doing well.
She said she was doing very well.
For those few days, he was heartbroken and couldn't muster any energy for anything. After completing the paperwork, he came straight back to Harmony City.
After all, he had lived here for several years and had clinical surgery experience, so he was hired quickly.
Benjamin, who had been standing to the side, narrowed his eyes, his face showing clear displeasure.
He hadn't forgotten that Lowell had almost confessed his feelings to Sophia.
Fortunately, he had stopped it in time. Otherwise, if Lowell had really gone to Silverlight City, he would definitely have tried every way to meet with Sophia.
Benjamin made a fist with one hand, held it to his lips, and coughed a few times, interrupting the pleasantries between Lowell and Sophia.
Sophia turned to look at him and asked with concern, "Is your throat bothering you?"
"I'm fine." Benjamin's lips curved slightly as he took the opportunity to hold Sophia's hand and lead her into the hospital.
As Benjamin passed Lowell, he shot him a challenging look.
Sophia had been thinking about other things and didn't notice the undercurrent between Benjamin and Lowell.
Being led by Benjamin, she placed her other hand on his arm and looked up at him, "Are you really okay?"
At this moment, all of Sophia's attention was drawn to Benjamin, which made her miss Lowell's dejected expression.
He stood there for quite a while before coming to his senses and laughing self-mockingly.
He knew better than anyone that some instinctive actions and reactions couldn't be faked.
When Sophia faced him, she always maintained a polite but distant manner, but Benjamin's every move touched her nerves.
The person walking ahead suddenly stopped. Benjamin and Sophia both turned to look at him.
"Lowell?"
Lowell realized he had lost his composure and quickly caught up with them, saying, "Francis said the difficulty level of this surgery isn't very high. He originally wanted me to try it, but the family didn't agree, so Francis had to do it himself."
"What's the patient's condition?"
"The patient already had severe high blood pressure, and recently got so angry that they passed out. It also triggered some complications."
Sophia listened while silently taking mental notes.
Entering the office, Francis immediately waved at her, "Sophia, come here quickly."
In Francis's office stood another man with an extraordinary bearing.
The man was dressed in a suit, his face stern, and his eyes as sharp as blades.
"Let me introduce you. This is Xander Smith, the head of the Smith Group. And this is the pride of our research institute and the most outstanding student from our medical school, Sophia Brown." Francis stood up and introduced both parties.
Sophia looked curiously at Xander before her. Looking carefully, he did indeed resemble Tyrell somewhat.
But their temperaments were completely different.
Tyrell was lazy and casual, yet meticulous when working.
The Xander before her exuded coldness from head to toe. When his eyes met Benjamin's, it was like two blocks of ice colliding.
"Uncle!" Sophia didn't stand on ceremony and addressed him directly.
When Francis made the introduction, Xander had already recognized Sophia's identity.
He hadn't expected Sophia to address him so directly.
Xander looked down at Sophia before him - fair skin, petite figure, delicate features, with eyes and brows that bore some resemblance to the Smith family.
It wasn't just him who was surprised, but also Francis and Lowell.
