Chapter 26 Someone Jealous?

Chapter 26 Someone Jealous?

Benjamin glanced at the delicate fingers resting on his wrist and quickly looked away, as if he'd been burned.

His eyes darted around, and the tips of his ears, hidden under his hair, gradually turned red.

She really did love him to pieces.

Even though he had never been in a relationship and didn't understand what others meant by love, Benjamin thought that, since she was his wife, he should treat her well from now on.

Otherwise, Sophia would definitely start crying again.

Benjamin, who had never experienced love, had no idea that this heart-pounding feeling was called infatuation.

But he was a man of commitment.

Since he had married Sophia, he would certainly fulfill his duties as a husband.

As Benjamin's thoughts wandered, a deep voice suddenly came from behind him.

Sophia then realized there was a third person in the room.

Her gaze fell on Alaric, and her face instantly turned red.

She pulled the blanket over her face, hiding herself.

Had Alaric seen her acting all cute with Benjamin just now?

Seeing Sophia hide under the blanket made Alaric chuckle.

He cleared his throat, pretending not to notice her embarrassment, and said to Benjamin, "Your poison attacks are unpredictable. It's best for Sophia to stay by your side."

As soon as he finished speaking, Alaric felt a wave of hostility.

Looking up, he saw Benjamin's eyes narrow slightly, a cold glint in them, as if saying, "Why are you still here?"

"Sophia? Is that what you call her?" Benjamin's voice was icy, full of warning.

Alaric was taken aback for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh.

Benjamin probably didn't realize that his tone was filled with jealousy.

Alaric laughed softly, waved his hand dismissively, and teased, "I'll call her whatever I want."

Benjamin's eyes narrowed further, glaring at Alaric.

Still chuckling, Alaric picked up his medical kit and, under Benjamin's murderous gaze, turned to leave.

"Alright, alright, I'm going. I won't disturb your alone time."

At the door, Alaric paused slightly and said to Benjamin in a low voice, "Sophia is weak. No strenuous activities for the next few days. Take care."

Benjamin looked puzzled, not understanding Alaric's meaning.

But he nodded, indicating he got it.

Seeing him nod, Alaric gave a meaningful smile, like a parent proud of their child growing up.

After Alaric left, the room fell silent again.

Sophia lay on the bed, peeking out from under the covers, her clear eyes fixed on Benjamin.

"How are you feeling? Does your chest still hurt?"

Even though she had just checked Benjamin's condition, Sophia was still worried.

The poison in Benjamin's body was severe, having invaded his vital organs and showing signs of spreading.

Without Sophia, Benjamin wouldn't have lived more than three months.

Sophia had suppressed the poison's spread, but completely eliminating it seemed a daunting task.

She looked at Benjamin with concern, feeling a pang of sadness.

During her stay at the White Manor, Sophia kept a close eye on the White Family members.

She was stunned to discover that, apart from Preston and Alaric, no one seemed to genuinely care about Benjamin's well-being.

Even Benjamin's own mother, Amelia, showed no reaction upon hearing about his poison attacks. It was as if Benjamin wasn't her son but a stranger.

The expression on Amelia's face that day, standing outside the door, was etched deeply in Sophia's mind—cold, indifferent, with a hint of glee and excitement. It was like she couldn't wait for Benjamin to die.

Sophia closed her eyes in pain, her heart aching.

Seeing her discomfort, Benjamin thought she was unwell and quickly asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling sick? Should I call Alaric back?"

Sophia shook her head, her face pale and weak.

She looked up, blinking, and gazed deeply at Benjamin.

With Benjamin's worried expression, she suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder, gently nuzzling.

"Honey, I promise I'll cure you! I'll make sure you live a long life, and we'll see all the wonders of the world together..."

Benjamin stiffened slightly at the unexpected embrace. Hearing Sophia's words, he couldn't help but smile.

He had seen many women go to great lengths to please him. He had heard many people claim they didn't care about his weak health and would give anything to be with him. But Benjamin only felt disgust and disdain. He knew those people didn't love him; they loved the White Family behind him.

Even though Benjamin was sickly, he still controlled the White Family's financial lifeline.

Marrying Benjamin meant gaining the entire White Family.

Everyone in Silverlight City knew this. Every year, many people tried to please him, sending women to his bed. Many women eagerly sought to get close to him.

Benjamin once thought all women were either selfish and foolish like Amelia or greedy like those other women.

But after meeting Sophia, he realized she was different. She had a pure, clear aura about her. She was spoiled, childish, and didn't hide her emotions at all, but every word she said moved Benjamin. Every kiss made his heart tremble.

Her affection was sincere and passionate, without a trace of greed or pretense. It was straightforward and caught him off guard.

Benjamin lowered his gaze, his arms slowly lifting and hesitating for a long time before finally resting his hands on Sophia's back. His strong arms tightened, as if to hold her close.

"Sophia."

For the first time, Benjamin called her name seriously, "Don't be so good to me, you'll regret it."

At twenty-four, a beam of light had entered his dark world.

Even knowing it was out of reach, he couldn't help but want to hold it close. He might never be able to let go of Sophia. Unless he died. No, not even then.

Sophia's cherry-red lips pouted slightly, dissatisfied, "Honey, you're hugging too tight, I can hardly breathe."

Hearing this, the dark thoughts spreading in Benjamin's mind suddenly paused.
