Chapter 25 Only a Kiss from My Husband Will Make It Better!
Sophia finally found the perfect spot after what felt like forever. She clung to the warm "heater" like an octopus and soon drifted off into a deep sleep.
In the middle of the night, Benjamin slowly woke up from his long slumber.
He opened his icy blue eyes and stared at the white ceiling, dazed for a moment.
Suddenly, memories from before he passed out came flooding back.
He remembered the poison taking over, turning him into that crazed version of himself.
Like a mad beast, he desperately struggled to tear into the prey before him.
He saw himself go berserk, saw those people looking at him with terror, as if he were a monster.
He thought it would be the same as every other time, pinned down by a group of strong men and bound with cold, unbreakable chains, unable to escape.
But then, a sweet, charming voice suddenly echoed in his ears, "I'm going to treat you, don't move."
After that...
Benjamin's head suddenly began to ache.
He took a sharp breath, instinctively raising his hand to rub his throbbing head.
But the next second, he froze.
Benjamin looked down in disbelief and saw Sophia snuggled into his arms.
Sophia, small and docile, was nestled against him. Yet, beneath the covers, her hands and feet were restlessly moving, trying to cling to him even tighter, almost as if... she was drawing something from him.
Benjamin furrowed his brows, feeling his ears heat up.
Before meeting Sophia, Benjamin had never been this close to a girl.
He used to find the women who approached him annoying.
But with Sophia, he felt none of that.
He looked at her with a complex expression, feeling emotions he couldn't quite describe.
"Did you save me?" Benjamin's voice was hoarse, his lips slightly dry, but he looked much better than when the poison had taken hold.
He stared at Sophia, his gaze unreadable.
Even without a response, Benjamin knew the answer.
He chuckled softly, withdrawing his hand that was about to push Sophia away, and lay back down.
'Fine, I'll let her hold me for the night,' he thought.
Consider it her reward for saving him.
Benjamin lay in bed, his eyes wide open, unable to sleep.
He stared at the ceiling, his face still emotionless, but his eyes now held a glimmer of light.
It was the light of hope that Sophia had brought him.
Sophia slept until the afternoon of the next day.
Benjamin almost thought she was ill.
He quickly called Alaric over, his face full of concern. "What's wrong with her?"
Alaric, tall and handsome, bore a slight resemblance to Benjamin in his features.
But their temperaments were completely different.
Alaric had a gentle demeanor, exuding a warm aura.
However, Benjamin had an air of isolation, his sharp eyes cold and uninviting, making people hesitant to approach.
Seeing the worry on Benjamin's usually stoic face, Alaric quickly waved his hand. "She's just exhausted. Give her some nutritious food over the next few days, and she'll bounce back."
Hearing this, Benjamin let out a sigh of relief, though he felt a pang of guilt.
He gently touched Sophia's pale face, his heart aching as if gripped by an invisible hand.
It was his fault.
If it weren't for her trying to cure him, Sophia wouldn't have fainted.
Benjamin lowered his gaze, the light in his eyes fading, returning to their dark depths.
Those eyes were like a cold, bottomless pool, tinged with a hint of detachment.
He was indeed a bearer of misfortune.
Those who got close to him rarely had good outcomes.
As Alaric packed up his medical kit, he suddenly felt the air around him drop several degrees, sending a chill down his spine.
He turned to see Benjamin with his head lowered, his eyes cold, his lips pressed into a tight line, lost in thought.
Alaric was silent for a moment before walking over to Benjamin.
He patted his shoulder and said softly, "It's not your fault. Don't blame yourself for everything."
Benjamin pressed his lips together, not saying a word.
But Alaric knew his brother was stubborn, always blaming himself for everything.
He sighed deeply, unsure of what to say.
Just then, Sophia, who had been sleeping on the bed, stirred.
From the navy blue covers, a hand suddenly emerged.
Both Benjamin and Alaric turned to see Sophia awake, her eyes still unfocused.
With a sleepy, confused look, she muttered, "Honey, hug me."
Sophia's sweet, soft voice was like a gentle caress, making Benjamin's heart itch.
He quickly leaned over, his face full of concern. "Are you okay?"
Sophia rubbed her sleepy eyes and shook her head. "No."
Hearing this, Benjamin's handsome face darkened, his deep eyes filled with anxiety. "Where does it hurt?"
Sophia opened her eyes, seeing Benjamin's worried face, and a sweet smile appeared on her face.
A mischievous glint flashed in her eyes. "Everywhere."
The next second, she reached out from under the covers, wrapping her arms around Benjamin's neck.
Sophia leaned in and planted a kiss on Benjamin's handsome face, then said with satisfaction, "I need you to kiss me to feel better!"
Benjamin froze, his pupils contracting.
He stayed in his half-bent position, his eyes full of shock and confusion.
The soft touch on his cheek felt like a brand, burning into his heart, making him feel a bit lost.
Benjamin's heart raced, feeling abnormal.
He seriously suspected he was under another spell.
His Adam's apple bobbed slightly, his voice hoarse and low. "Liar."
Sophia looked at Benjamin with a bright smile.
She took his wrist, checking his pulse, and said seriously, "It looks like I need to stay with you, or else something big will happen!"
