Chapter 233 Your Blood Has a Problem
Until a hint of breathlessness came and her lips felt tingly and numb, Benjamin finally let her go.
Benjamin lowered his eyes and looked at Sophia, noticing her serious expression as she stared downward, lost in thought.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Sophia suddenly reached out, her fair and delicate palm pressing against his shoulder. Before he could say anything, his body was turned around.
Benjamin was confused, then suddenly heard Sophia's tense voice in his ear, "Your blood... there's something wrong with it."
"What's wrong?"
"I'm not sure yet, but there's definitely something wrong." Sophia hurriedly picked up the blood-stained gauze from earlier, wrapped it in a sealed bag, then got up and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" Benjamin followed her, his handsome face growing more serious.
"I need to go to the lab. You stay home and wait for me. I'll be back soon." Sophia paused and looked at Benjamin with concern.
Benjamin held Sophia's hand. "I'll go with you."
Sophia shook her head. "No need. You should rest at home. Besides, you can't get into the lab anyway."
He had a point there.
Benjamin reluctantly let go of Sophia, but after what happened earlier with Isabella almost stabbing her, he still felt uneasy.
"I'll have Chase drive you there."
"Okay." This time Sophia didn't refuse, since she really didn't want to drive herself.
Alaric was about to leave the lab when he opened the door and ran right into Sophia, who had rushed over.
"Sophia, what are you doing here? I heard Benjamin got hurt? I was just about to go check on him."
"Alaric, I need to use the lab." Sophia's face was pale, her expression clearly anxious.
Alaric didn't know what was going on, but he still stepped aside to let Sophia in.
He glanced at Sophia, took out his phone from his pocket, and went outside to call Benjamin.
After confirming Benjamin was okay, Alaric breathed a sigh of relief and returned to the lab.
Sophia hadn't been to the lab in a long time, and everyone greeted her warmly.
After responding to each of them, Sophia began setting up the equipment to do her research.
Seeing how focused she was, the others who had wanted to ask questions all closed their mouths.
Time flew by, and when Sophia finally looked up again, it was already dark outside.
Sophia had been standing at the lab bench for a full five hours. When she came to her senses, she realized everyone was getting ready to leave for the day.
She looked at the research results, feeling complicated.
There was indeed something wrong with Benjamin's blood, but it wasn't what she had suspected—no mutation or poisoning.
On the contrary, his blood could serve as an antidote,
especially—for the poison in her body.
Logically, this shouldn't happen, but something had gone wrong somewhere, and by some twist of fate, Benjamin's blood cells had changed.
For a moment, she didn't know whether to be happy or worried.
"What's wrong? Do you need my help?" Alaric walked up to Sophia, his eyes full of concern.
Sophia handed him her test data without saying a word.
Alaric took the data report and glanced at it casually at first, but his expression suddenly changed after seeing the numbers clearly.
"This is... Benjamin's blood?"
"Yes." Sophia nodded. She hadn't planned to hide it from Alaric, or she wouldn't have chosen to come here.
Alaric put down the report and looked up at Sophia. "This is good news. If the blood in his body can really save you, then he won't blame himself like he does now."
Sophia shook her head. If only it were that simple.
Alaric had a flash of insight. "You're worried that if someone finds out about this, it could put Benjamin in danger?"
"Yes. The organization from seventeen years ago wasn't completely eliminated. Those people might still be alive in this world, and they might have been secretly continuing their experiments all these years. I can't bear to think what they might do to Benjamin if they found out his blood can neutralize poison."
Alaric sighed heavily. This was indeed a tricky problem.
"Alright, don't be too stressed. Benjamin isn't as fragile as you think." He tried to comfort her in a low voice.
"Alaric, don't tell anyone about this for now. The more people who know, the more danger Benjamin is in."
"I understand."
Only Sophia and Alaric were left in the lab. The two walked out of Stellar University together and found a familiar car parked by the roadside waiting.
Sophia ran over first. The car door was pushed open from inside, and Benjamin stepped out, catching Sophia in his arms.
The familiar scene, no matter how many times it happened, was a huge blow to him as a single person.
Alaric helplessly rubbed his forehead, suddenly feeling a bit sad.
"Why did you work so late? Are you tired?" Benjamin took Sophia's hand and helped her into the car. Alaric followed and sat in the passenger seat.
Sophia didn't mention the test results, only said she wasn't tired.
Actually, she was a bit tired. After standing for several hours, her energy was nearly depleted.
Benjamin put his arm around her slender waist, letting her lean against him. His warm palm cupped her face, letting her rest on his shoulder. "Rest for a while. I'll wake you when we get home."
Leaning in Benjamin's warm embrace, Sophia gradually felt sleepy. Just as she was about to fall asleep in a daze, her body suddenly lifted into the air.
She moved slightly, instinctively trying to open her eyes, but heard a gentle, soothing voice in her ear, "Sleep, don't be afraid. I'm here."
Whether it was because Benjamin's embrace was too warm or his voice too gentle, Sophia actually fell asleep.
When she woke up again, it was the middle of the night.
Benjamin had just come out of the bathroom after showering, wearing only a towel around his waist, his chest bare, his abs clearly defined, his V-line flowing sexily into the towel, silently alluring.
Sophia hadn't expected to open her eyes to such a stunning sight. She instinctively swallowed.
"Honey."
"You're awake? Get up and eat something." Benjamin's lips curved slightly as he sat on the edge of the bed, one hand drying his hair, the other holding her slender, soft wrist.
Sophia hugged his arm and acted cute. "I don't want to get up."
"Then wait for me a moment. I'll go bring the food up." Benjamin stood up, ready to go downstairs.
But Sophia suddenly sat up in bed.
She covered her mouth and yawned, a crystal tear forming at the corner of her eye, making her eyes look even more dreamy.
"I'll go myself." Sophia slowly got out of bed, wearing her pink slippers, and walked out.
Watching her half-asleep appearance, Benjamin couldn't help but chuckle.
Worried that Sophia might fall on the way, Benjamin quickly followed her.
