Chapter 187 Dietary Recipes
This was a fever-reducing medicine she developed herself. It worked pretty well and had already passed clinical trials by Oasis University's professional medical team.
Compared to cold medicines on the market, it had fewer side effects and worked faster.
Most importantly, it was cheap to make and easy to mass-produce.
It just hadn't been put into official production yet.
Seeing how anxious the old man was, she hesitated for a moment before asking, "If you trust me, I can help treat him."
With Sophia's medical skills, treating a fever and cold was a piece of cake.
But as soon as she said this, mocking laughter came from around her.
"Anyone can say that. Treating illness isn't a joke. There are professional doctors for that. You're just a volunteer—why are you butting in?"
The speaker was a middle-aged man.
He had a strong voice, and except for his pale complexion, nothing else seemed wrong with him.
He didn't look like someone who was sick at all.
Sophia glanced at the person beside him and immediately understood.
The sick one wasn't him, but the woman next to him.
The woman's face was pale, completely bloodless. She was leaning weakly against the wall, looking very seriously ill.
Sophia smiled faintly and looked up at the man who had spoken. "I may not be a professional doctor, but my medical skills are pretty good. Besides, the hospital's medical resources are stretched thin right now. If this drags on, the child's brain will probably be damaged from the fever."
Sophia wasn't exaggerating.
Children's immune systems were weaker than adults' to begin with. Plus, this child had been running a fever for so long, and with so many people waiting in line ahead of them, by the time their turn came, it would probably be dark.
The hospital had probably already sent requests to other city hospitals for help, but this place was so remote that it would probably take a long time for anyone to arrive.
Being questioned didn't bother Sophia. She just glanced calmly at the man's wife. "Your wife has stomach problems, right? Over the past month or two, she's been having frequent stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, and hasn't been able to eat properly in a long time. Am I right?"
The man's expression changed instantly, and he looked at Sophia like he'd seen a ghost.
Everything Sophia said was spot on!
They ran a restaurant in town. Over the past month, his wife's stomach had been bothering her constantly. She couldn't eat and kept vomiting.
But they'd been too reluctant to spend money, so they never came to the hospital for a checkup. They just got some medicine from a small clinic nearby.
Not taking medicine would have been better—once she started taking it, his wife's condition got worse and worse.
The middle-aged man was getting worried. Plus, with the heavy rain these past few days, business was impossible, so he figured he'd bring his wife to see a doctor properly.
He never expected the hospital to have so many patients and such a long wait.
The middle-aged man was getting impatient waiting here, with children constantly crying around him, making him even more irritable.
Just when he had nowhere to vent his frustration, Sophia suddenly walked over.
At first, he thought Sophia was just an ordinary volunteer, but now she'd guessed his wife's symptoms, which shocked him a bit.
"How—how did you know? Who told you?"
Sophia: "I figured it out myself."
She had once treated patients with similar symptoms alongside her master, though that patient's condition had been more serious.
After a pause, she continued, "Your wife's illness probably isn't ordinary stomach trouble—it's stomach cancer. I suggest you get a thorough checkup."
The middle-aged man immediately flew into a rage. He jumped to his feet and shouted at Sophia, "What are you talking about? My wife is fine! She just has a bit of stomach trouble. Why are you cursing her?"
Sophia remained calm and didn't back down. "I'm not cursing anyone. I'm just stating facts. If you don't believe what I'm saying, you can go get checked."
"My wife is healthy! What's wrong with you? If you keep spouting nonsense, don't blame me for getting rough with you!" The middle-aged man was built like a bear, his face full of anger, fists clenched, looking like he was about to hit someone.
But seeing Sophia's delicate, beautiful face, the middle-aged man ultimately couldn't bring himself to strike. He grabbed his wife and started to leave.
"We're not getting checked. She must be talking nonsense. You're definitely fine."
Sophia stopped them and kindly reminded them, "This illness can't be delayed. If you keep putting it off and it becomes late-stage, it'll be even harder to treat. Your wife's condition isn't serious yet. If you trust me, I can help you."
Sophia wasn't someone whose compassion overflowed, but she also couldn't just watch a patient let their illness get worse and worse.
"You can treat it? You're so young—how can you talk so big? Stomach cancer is such a serious disease. Can you really cure it?"
Sophia thought for a moment and explained, "Stomach cancer has early, middle, and late stages. Your wife's current condition isn't too serious—it should be early stage. With proper treatment, she'll definitely get better."
The middle-aged man and his wife looked at each other.
His wife hadn't been able to eat for over a month. Now she was so thin she was just skin and bones—a gust of wind could blow her over.
Thinking about how his wife had suffered so much with him all these years and now had this illness, the middle-aged man's eyes reddened.
He asked, "You really know how to treat illnesses? You're so young... stomach cancer—I don't know much about it, but I know that's something only specialists can treat!"
The middle-aged man's eyes were full of doubt.
Sophia was already used to this.
She smiled slightly and said, "If you don't believe me, you can go get checked first. See if it's early-stage stomach cancer like I said. Also, your wife's symptoms are pretty severe right now. She basically throws up everything she eats and can only drink plain porridge and water. Am I wrong?"
"Yes! Everything you said is right! I haven't been able to eat in a long time. I feel nauseous as soon as I smell cooking oil." Before the middle-aged man could speak, his wife spoke up first.
Sophia lowered her eyes and opened the bag slung across her shoulder. She took out a mini notebook and pen, quickly wrote down a recipe, and handed it to them. "This is a dietary recipe that can temporarily relieve your inability to eat. It has precise amounts and steps. You can try making it first."
They looked at each other, somewhat hesitant.
Sophia smiled gently. "All these herbs and ingredients are good for the stomach and harmless to the body. If you don't believe me, you can ask a doctor whether this recipe is safe. And you still need to get checked, so I suggest you don't leave the hospital yet."
As for the treatment after that, they'd have to wait for the test results.
She believed that once the results came out, the hospital would arrange the best treatment plan for them.
That wasn't something she needed to worry about.
