Chapter 105 Do You Still Take Disciples
Sophia grabbed a piece of chalk and quickly jotted down the names of the herbs they needed on the blackboard, explaining each one in detail.
Everyone, including Alaric, listened closely.
Sometimes they frowned, sometimes their faces lit up with sudden understanding.
Sophia didn't hold back, sharing her entire process openly.
"Is it really that simple? I thought it would be way more complicated," Steven sighed deeply.
"Yeah, I didn't expect that either," Aurora chimed in.
"Actually, making medicine and treating illnesses are pretty similar. It's all about using the right remedy for the right ailment. The sequence and dosage can make a huge difference," Sophia explained with a smile.
Everyone looked enlightened.
"I didn't expect to learn so much today. Thanks, Sophia!"
"Yeah, we always thought that after years of studying medicine, we were pretty good. But there's always more to learn."
Sophia blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed by the praise.
"It's not that hard, really. It just takes practice. Once you master the dosage, you're already halfway there."
"When I get home tonight, I'm heading to the pharmacy to buy these herbs. I need to try out what we learned today," Steven said eagerly, his eyes shining with excitement.
"Sophia, besides burn ointments, what other formulas do you know?" Aurora asked curiously.
"I know quite a few. Painkillers, cold medicine, scar removal ointments, detoxifying agents, and even medicinal recipes for nourishing the body... All of these were taught to me by my mentor," Sophia responded with a smile.
Hearing this, everyone looked envious and a bit conflicted.
They all knew that Sophia's mentor was the renowned healer Robert.
It was said that Robert's whereabouts were unpredictable, and he had a proud and aloof personality.
But his medical skills were extraordinary, and money alone couldn't guarantee his services.
Sophia was incredibly fortunate to be his apprentice.
They couldn't help but envy her.
"Sophia, are you taking on apprentices? Do you think I could be one?" Steven suddenly stepped forward, making a gesture to formally acknowledge her as his teacher.
Sophia was startled and quickly took two steps back, her eyes filled with shock and confusion.
"Steven, what are you doing?"
"I want to be your apprentice. Despite your young age, your medical skills far surpass mine. I truly admire you," Steven said sincerely, his eyes earnest.
Sophia looked to Alaric for help, her eyes full of helplessness.
Alaric hurried forward, pulling Steven up and scolding him softly, "Just talk. What are you doing?"
Aurora and Hannah were also speechless.
Steven's personality was unconventional, and he was always passionately obsessed with medicine.
They used to think Steven's character was quite decent.
But now, they just wanted to stay far away from him.
They didn't want to deal with this fool.
"Steven, if you need help, just ask. There's no need to become an apprentice," Sophia declined with a smile.
She had never considered taking on students.
Steven looked down, disappointed, like a dog abandoned by its owner.
"Alright, get to work. I remember you have a class this morning," Alaric reminded him.
Steven patted his forehead, "How could I forget something so important!"
With that, Steven left the lab without looking back.
Sophia and Alaric exchanged glances.
Alaric smiled wryly and reassured her softly, "Don't worry, that's just how he is. If you really don't want to take on students, he won't push it."
Sophia nodded, relieved, and then continued her work for the day.
As they were wrapping up, Hannah suddenly approached.
Alaric had a class in the afternoon and had already left.
Aurora had to pick up her son from kindergarten, so she left early too.
So, only Sophia and Hannah were left in the lab.
After Aurora left, Hannah walked over to Sophia's side.
Sophia looked up and was startled.
"What are you doing here?" Sophia asked, patting her chest to calm herself.
Hannah scratched her head awkwardly and explained softly, "I've been here for a while, but you were too focused to notice."
"Do you need something?"
Sophia asked quietly.
She knew Hannah had never been particularly fond of her.
If it wasn't something important, Hannah wouldn't have come over to talk to her.
"I..."
Hannah hesitated, frowning, unsure of what to say.
Seeing this, Sophia raised an eyebrow, "If you don't want to say anything, I'm leaving."
"No, wait!" Hannah quickly stopped her, pointing to the herbs on her desk, "I didn't quite understand some of the things you explained today."
Hannah's cheeks were slightly red, and she seemed a bit embarrassed.
Since Sophia had joined the lab, Hannah had never treated her well, often making snide remarks.
Now, she deeply regretted how she had treated Sophia.
Sophia nodded knowingly and asked softly, "What didn't you understand?"
"This part. I remember that common burn ointments don't usually contain this herb, but you used it."
Hannah's heart leaped with joy as she quickly voiced her question.
Sophia laughed lightly and explained, "If you don't master the dosage of this herb, it can have the opposite effect, which is why it's rarely used in common burn ointments. Additionally, this herb is used more for treating other ailments, so many physicians overlook it..."
Hannah suddenly understood.
Her gaze towards Sophia changed instantly.
"Do you have anything else?"
Seeing Hannah staring at her, Sophia found it amusing.
"I want to apologize for my ignorance earlier," Hannah said, lowering her eyes, filled with guilt.
"I always thought you got in here because of your connections with Alaric."
"And now?" Sophia asked with a faint smile.
"Now I understand. You really are better than me."
Hannah came from a good family and had been pampered since childhood, which had made her somewhat spoiled.
Getting an apology from her surprised Sophia.
She waved her hand dismissively, saying, "It's okay. I didn't really mind."
"Do you really forgive me?" Hannah asked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
She had expected Sophia to take the opportunity to make things difficult for her.
"What else would I do?"
Sophia shook her head, locking away the samples and documents, then preparing to leave.
Seeing this, Hannah quickly followed.
"You're leaving? I'll go with you!"
Sophia smiled slightly, accepting her company.
As they walked out of the lab, Hannah seemed hesitant to speak.
"Do you have something else to say?" Sophia asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
