Chapter 99 What Do I Get?
"Can we... do this at home?" Her voice trembled slightly as she tried to control her own rising desire. "I have so much work..."
He ignored her, lips trailing down her neck—slow, teasing. She gripped his waist instinctively. "Let Liam handle it."
She pulled back with a soft huff. "Then why am I even here if Liam's doing my work?"
Elliot sighed, looking at her with a mix of longing and frustration. Frustration that he couldn't finish what they'd started right now. "Maybe I should just fire you—"
"Elliot!" She pouted in protest.
He clicked his tongue, stepping back slightly. "What do I get if I listen to you?"
She thought for a moment, eyes narrowing. Finally, still breathless, she said, "I'll do whatever you want."
His eyes lit up instantly. The smile that spread across his face made the hair on her arms stand up.
"Whatever?" His voice dropped—low, rough, tempting.
She immediately regretted her words. What did I just agree to? Part of her was panicking—she knew exactly what he was capable of. But another part, the part she was too embarrassed to acknowledge, felt a thrill of anticipation.
"Nothing weird!" she added quickly, trying to backpedal.
One eyebrow arched. "Weird? Like what?" He leaned closer again, making her heart race.
She swallowed hard. "Just... nothing crazy!"
He laughed softly, clearly enjoying her panic. "Fine then." He pulled her closer by the waist, lips brushing her ear. "I won't let you leave the bedroom all night."
She froze. "Elliot—"
He looked at her triumphantly. "What? You said whatever I want."
"That's not what I meant!" She pouted again.
One eyebrow arched higher. "Okay. Your choice. Either we don't leave this office for the rest of the day, or you don't leave the bedroom tonight."
She opened her mouth to protest. But his gaze pinned her—waiting, demanding.
She sighed. Obviously she couldn't choose the first option.
"Fine. Whatever you want." She surrendered. "But you have to promise not to bother me for the rest of today!"
He considered this. It would be difficult, but... the promise of tonight made it worth it.
"Deal."
He finally released her waist. "Go back to your desk before I change my mind."
She didn't need to be told twice. She practically fled, afraid he'd pull her back if she lingered.
The moment the door closed behind her, she exhaled long and slow, trying to steady her racing heart. Her hand touched her neck, remembering where his lips had been.
"I'm going to go crazy if this keeps up," she muttered.
She hurried back to her desk, hoping she could actually focus now.
But somehow, she had a feeling his promise wouldn't last long.
Behind the closed door, Elliot exhaled heavily and dropped into his chair. He grabbed his phone, scanning today's schedule. His mind was already working—finding excuses to leave early tonight.
Audrey might have escaped for now.
But tonight?
Not a chance.
He pulled up his calendar, mentally rearranging meetings. Maybe that 7 PM call could be moved to tomorrow. And if he finished early enough—
He stopped himself, laughing softly.
When did I become this pathetic?
A few months ago, he stayed late at the office by choice. Now he was scheming to leave early just to get his wife home.
Marriage changes a man, he thought, but the smile on his face said he didn't mind at all.
Liam glanced at his watch, then at Audrey as she walked back to her desk. "That wasn't even ten minutes. What happened?"
She smacked his arm—hard.
"Ow!" He winced. "Since when do you hit people?"
She huffed, dropping files onto her desk with more force than necessary. "Since certain people started minding other people's business!"
Liam chuckled at her flushed face. He still couldn't believe his boss and his coworker were actually married. "Had enough fun in there?"
"Liam!" She hissed, face turning even redder, gesturing frantically for him to keep his voice down. Luckily, the bullpen was mostly empty.
His intercom buzzed.
They both knew who it was.
"Yes, sir?"
"You still coming to report?" Elliot's voice came through.
"On my way." Liam hung up, glancing at Audrey with a teasing smile. "You two didn't leave any evidence—"
"Liam!"
He laughed, grabbing his files and heading toward Elliot's office.
Audrey sighed, rubbing her temples. She tried to focus on work.
But her concentration was shattered. Every time she tried to read a document, her mind wandered back to what happened in that office.
Her face burned. She slammed the file shut and hit her desk lightly.
"So annoying!" she muttered, frustrated.
But underneath the frustration, there it was again—that flutter in her stomach. That anticipation she couldn't quite suppress.
Stop it, Audrey. You have work to do. Focus.
She took a deep breath and opened the file again.
Three seconds later, she was thinking about his lips on her neck.
Damn it.
The rest of the day passed without incident.
Elliot kept his word. No interruptions. No sudden teasing. No wandering hands to break her focus.
He was genuinely busy—calls, meetings, decisions. When he needed something, he asked other assistants unless it was something only Audrey handled.
She finally managed to lose herself in work, though her mind drifted to him occasionally. But seeing how seriously he worked, she was sure he wouldn't have time to play today.
Until late afternoon.
The office was still buzzing. Audrey had just finished her last document when her phone buzzed.
A message from Elliot.
\[Elliot: Got a meeting outside. Don't wait for me. Go home early. Marcus will drive you.\]
She typed back quickly.
\[I can go home myself. Don't need Marcus.\]
Not even a minute later, her phone rang. Her husband.
She sighed before answering. "Yes?"
"Don't be stubborn." His voice was firm. "Marcus is picking you up. End of discussion."
"But—"
"No buts." He cut her off. "I don't want anything happening to you. I already let you work today. Don't make me worry about your safety too."
She fell silent. She understood. After everything that had happened, he was more protective now.
But one thing still bothered her. "If Marcus picks me up, people at the office will start asking questions. I don't want—"
"I know." He exhaled. "Marcus will wait a block away. You walk out like normal, then get in his car."
She bit her lip, still unsure. But she knew he wouldn't give up until she agreed.
"Fine. Whatever you say."
"Good." His voice softened. "And one more thing..."
She waited, heart pounding.
"Don't forget about tonight, baby."
She froze. Her face went hot instantly. "Elliot!"
He just chuckled and hung up.
She stared at her phone, caught between embarrassment and that same nervous excitement from earlier. She swallowed hard.
Audrey was still muttering to herself when a soft voice called her name.
"Audrey..."
She turned toward the sound.
