Chapter 70 Big Boss Doesn't Like Waiting
The night felt so long. Audrey could only lie restlessly in her bed, staring at the ceiling of her room. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but her mind was constantly haunted by Henry's threat. Her stepfather had always been a nightmare that never truly disappeared, and now he was back to haunt her.
"What exactly does he want from me?" Audrey muttered softly.
Her eyes welled up with tears, but she quickly wiped them away. Her body was trembling because she was starting to be afraid, but she knew she couldn't just sit still here. If she stayed, Henry would surely find her. "I have to leave this place."
Quickly, Audrey got out of bed. She grabbed her jacket and the small bag she usually used. Without much thought, she put her important belongings inside. She had to go now, before the shadows outside her window turned into real men with real intentions.
With slow and careful steps, Audrey opened the door. The cold night air greeted her immediately, biting her skin, but she didn't care. It was 2 AM when she checked on her phone, which was why the streets around the boarding house seemed deserted.
Just as Audrey stepped out of the house gate, her body tensed up in instant. Under the dim streetlights, two large men stood blocking her way.
She recognized one of them. A debt collector who had approached her some time ago. The man looked at her with a cynical smile, while his partner remained silent with a cold expression.
Still confused as to why they were carrying out their task at this time, Audrey's breath hitched even more when she saw the figure who appeared between them.
Henry.
Bad thoughts immediately overwhelmed Audrey. Did all this have something to do with her father's debt? Could it be that the friend Henry meant was...
Thinking about it, Audrey's fear slowly grew, along with her heart beating faster. She wanted to grab her phone from inside her bag to call someone, but Henry seemed to notice her movement, and quickly moved closer to her and immediately grabbed Audrey's wrist.
"Where are you going?" Henry asked with a scornful chuckle and a threatening gaze.
Audrey backed up but the two men were already behind her. She was surrounded. Audrey's eyes shifted from Henry to the two men. "What... what are you doing here?!"
Henry smirked and looked terrifying. "And you, what are you doing here? Trying to run away? I told you not to try anything stupid!"
Audrey did not answer Henry's words. Without much thought, she immediately shook off Henry's grip and managed to break free. Quickly, she spun her body and ran as fast as she could, leaving the three of them who were briefly stunned because they did not expect her action.
"Chase her!" Henry snapped in an angry tone.
The two large men immediately ran after Audrey, who continued to run without looking back. Her breath was ragged, her legs felt heavy, but she didn't care. The only thing on her mind was to run away as far as possible.
However, unfortunately, they were too fast. In just a matter of seconds, one of the men managed to grab Audrey's arm, pulling her roughly until she fell onto the sidewalk.
"Agh!" Audrey winced in pain, but she did not give up. The woman immediately struggled, kicking the man's leg as hard as she could and managing to make him stagger back slightly.
"Dammit! Don't let her get away!" the man shouted to his partner.
The second man immediately approached, gripping Audrey's shoulder tightly. Her body was forcibly lifted from the sidewalk. However, Audrey did not stay silent. She bit the man's hand as hard as she could until the man groaned in pain and let go of her.
"Crazy woman!" he cursed with anger.
Unfortunately, before Audrey could run away again, the first man managed to grab her arm from behind. He pulled her roughly, his grip tightening until Audrey winced.
"Let me go!" Audrey shouted while continuing to struggle. She swung her legs, trying to kick whoever was around her, but her energy was declining.
The man gripping her seemed to lose patience. "Shut up, you!" he snapped, swinging his hand towards Audrey's face.
The hard slap made Audrey's head snap to the side. Her eyes swam, her body nearly swayed if the man hadn't been holding her tightly.
Henry, who was standing not far from there, chuckled, his eyes looking at Audrey with contempt. "I told you, don't resist. You think you can win against them?"
Audrey lifted her face, which was starting to be wet with tears. She looked at Henry with hatred, even though her vision was blurred from the pain. "You won't get away with this..."
"Get away? Audrey, you have no one to help you!" Henry replied with a condescending tone. "So stop acting tough. The sooner you accept your fate, the easier everything will be!"
The large man holding Audrey turned towards Henry. "Should we take her now?"
Henry nodded, a flicker of something like fear in his own eyes. 'The Big Boss doesn't like waiting. And neither do I.'"
