Chapter 73
Elizabeth's POV
Alexander was staring at me, completely lost in thought, with an expression on his face I'd never seen before.
I looked at him in surprise, not daring to believe he was actually spacing out while looking at me.
I pretended to cough to get his attention, and only then did he seem to snap back to reality.
His deep gaze shifted away as Alexander's voice carried absolute rationality, "Are you sure Aiden doesn't have any other intentions toward you?"
Thinking about the entanglement with the Smith family and Aiden's change in attitude toward me, I couldn't help but sneer, "Even if that kind of person has ideas, I'll make him get lost."
Some people are just like that—when you're chasing after them, they treat you like air; but when you actually walk away and stop caring, they suddenly start performing deep affection.
Doesn't he think it's already too late?
We soon arrived at the hospital. Bianca was clinging to the car behind us, refusing to get out, crying her eyes out as if the whole world owed her something.
Alexander and I got out of the car. Watching the situation over there, I frowned, my patience about to run out.
"What's this about? Feeling guilty now?" I couldn't help but shout in that direction.
Aiden shot me an apologetic look and said, "I'll force her out right now."
Hearing this, Bianca cried even harder.
I looked at Alexander and couldn't help but say, "Am I taking up too much of your time? Maybe I should just stay here by myself."
Alexander frowned, clearly displeased. He glanced at me coolly and gave Charles a look.
Charles immediately brought two bodyguards over and physically dragged Bianca out.
Aiden stepped back, showing no intention of stopping them.
Bianca was unceremoniously hauled out and taken by the waiting nurses into the hospital for examination.
"Just do a full body check—that should make things pretty clear, right?" I said to Aiden, only to find he'd been staring at me the whole time.
That look made me uncomfortable, and I instinctively shrank back a bit.
"Elizabeth, when did you find out?" Seeing me dodge away, Aiden actually came closer to me and asked.
I'd already made it clear I didn't want to deal with him, yet he kept pushing his luck.
"Does it matter when I found out?" I moved closer to Alexander's side and sneered, "Don't get the wrong idea either. I'm only letting you know about Bianca's situation because I don't want to put myself in danger again."
By making this clear, he should understand that I'm fully aware of all those times he deliberately tried to hurt me.
This kind of person has no guilt whatsoever, yet still has the nerve to talk to me?
Aiden was clearly wary of Alexander. As soon as he saw me move closer to him, he immediately backed away.
Because it was Alexander's arrangement, the efficiency was very high. It didn't take long to get all of Bianca's medical examination reports.
Looking at the reports showing she was healthy, Aiden was completely stunned.
"How is this possible..."
I looked at those reports and laughed. "What, you still thought she wouldn't deceive you?"
Aiden's reaction was too easy to read—he'd probably expected Bianca might hide something, but never imagined her body could be this healthy.
"Why?" Aiden looked at me, his feet moving toward me uncontrollably.
That face was lifeless, carrying some kind of obsession.
My heart tightened. Suddenly, my arm was grabbed, and then I was pulled directly into a familiar yet strange embrace.
The pleasant scent of pine instantly filled my nose. I looked up and met Alexander's gaze.
That face showed absolutely no expression, as if he didn't think there was anything wrong with what he'd done.
He looked at me and just tightened his arms around me.
Aiden immediately calmed down and stood in a more distant position.
"Since you already know the truth, there's no need to bother Elizabeth anymore."
Alexander's tone left no room for argument. When he said my name, it somehow sounded unusually intimate.
I quietly swallowed, pressed against Alexander's chest, but was unable to make any other move.
Suddenly pulling me into his arms—what did Alexander mean by this?
Aiden's voice came again, but his tone was more determined, making my heart tighten.
He asked, "I want to know what your relationship with Elizabeth really is. Are you really with her because of this child?"
As if he'd made some kind of decision, I instinctively wanted to break free from Alexander's hold to see his expression.
But the hand on my back suddenly pressed harder.
I couldn't help but cry out.
Alexander didn't answer Aiden at all. Though I couldn't see his expression, I could imagine what kind of superior attitude he must have.
Aiden alone seemed to have no right to even have a conversation with him.
"Let's go." Alexander's gentle voice came from above my head. I was led by the hand toward the exit.
Aiden's voice came from behind, "Elizabeth! Things between us aren't over! I'll come find you again."
I didn't know if it was my imagination, but after Aiden shouted that, Alexander beside me seemed to tremble slightly.
After leaving the hospital, I was finally able to emerge from his embrace, looking at him with some confusion.
"You, why would you..."
Alexander chuckled softly, taking in my reaction completely before saying, "Why would I what? Don't misunderstand—I just don't want my child to face any harm before being born."
Hearing him say this, I immediately understood.
So he thought this was a better way to get rid of Aiden.
That made sense. Someone as thick-skinned as Aiden, after finding out Bianca had been deceiving him all along, who knows what he might do?
"Aiden's love for Bianca is real. Finding this out should be a huge blow to him. I just need to temporarily escape this crisis."
As for getting revenge on Aiden—that wasn't over yet. I hadn't made him experience the pain I'd felt.
Alexander looked at my belly, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, "So what's your plan?"
I didn't know how to answer this question. After hesitating for a moment, I said, "First finish the collaboration, then see how things develop between Aiden and Bianca."
If there's an opportunity, I definitely won't let it pass. After all, I haven't gotten what I really want yet.
Alexander stared at me, those deep eyes seeming to flash with many different meanings.
"Get in the car. Let's go home." He spoke tersely.
I immediately followed behind him, very cooperatively, not saying a word.
What's going on—Alexander seems to be getting more and more used to saying "go home."
As if we really were a family.
