Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Alexander's POV

I got a report from Charles about Elizabeth, saying she went to the Smith family's place.

Even though she had the bodyguards I lent her following behind, I had to admit - she was really bold.

Charles looked at me respectfully and said, "Mr. Windsor, Ms. Spencer has been inside for quite a while now, and there's been no movement at all. Although we have bodyguards at the door, they can't know what's happening inside right away."

What he meant was that Elizabeth might be in danger.

I was a bit surprised to see the worried expression on his face - he seemed to care about Elizabeth quite a bit.

Elizabeth did have this strange charm about her - she seemed to get along well with everyone.

Seeing that I was about to leave, he spoke up anxiously, "Mr. Windsor, aren't you going to check on her? Aiden tried to frame Ms. Spencer before, and this time..."

What he meant was he was worried Elizabeth might be in real danger.

I glanced at the darkening sky outside the window and said casually, "Get the car. We're going to the Smith family's place."

Hearing my words, Charles got visibly excited and immediately went to get the car.

On the road, Charles kept looking like he wanted to say something, but held back. I said directly, "If you want to say something, just say it. No need to hold it in."

Charles quickly shook his head and pressed harder on the gas pedal.

Actually, I could guess what he wanted to say - it was nothing more than things related to Elizabeth.

I could also sense the changes in myself. When it came to Elizabeth, I was making the most changes.

She wasn't quite what I had imagined. She would inexplicably draw my attention, making me unable to help putting my mind on her.

Like right now, Charles, as my assistant, had already noticed my thoughts and was just testing the waters by trying to talk to me about it.

Even if he hadn't said anything, I probably would have gone anyway.

When we arrived at the Smith family's place, I saw a large group of people walking out of the house.

Right in the middle was Elizabeth.

Everyone froze when they saw my car and looked over in my direction.

"Mr. Windsor?" Elizabeth was the first to react, walking quickly toward me.

But just as she started moving, a hand grabbed her.

It was Aiden. He was holding Elizabeth tightly.

My eyes involuntarily fell on that hand of his, my brows furrowing as a clear sense of annoyance rose from the bottom of my heart.

These two people who were supposed to be at odds - how could Elizabeth so easily let him hold her hand?

And she didn't push him away immediately either. Could it be...

Realizing this, my expression completely darkened.

Just then, Elizabeth forcefully shook off Aiden's hand and glared at him with disgust, "Please don't get handsy. We're not that close."

Aiden was rebuffed but didn't approach again.

Only then did Elizabeth successfully run over to me. Seeing this, my expression softened a bit.

Elizabeth came up to me and said softly, "Mr. Windsor, what brings you here?"

Her tone was full of doubt.

As if she hadn't expected me to come at all, which made me feel annoyed.

"I can't come?" I asked her directly.

Elizabeth quickly shook her head, putting on a pleasing smile, "Of course not. I'm just a bit curious."

Indeed, even I felt my sudden appearance was quite unusual.

"What's going on here?"

On the way here, I had imagined many possibilities, but I hadn't expected the current situation.

Several people standing together - the atmosphere was much more harmonious than I'd imagined.

I looked over there and found that the only one being excluded was the crying Bianca.

Elizabeth's purpose in coming here was to reveal the truth. With this kind of atmosphere, she should have already achieved her goal.

But their current stance didn't look like things were over.

"Mr. Windsor, Bianca insists I'm framing her, so we're planning to go to the hospital right now. Since you're here, could you help us arrange it?"

Elizabeth switched to a polite form of address. Her big eyes blinked with a hint of cunning.

Honestly, Elizabeth, like this was very eye-catching and made people notice her beauty even more.

"Sure." I agreed directly.

Bianca, behind us, immediately screamed, "How can this be okay?"

Then, realizing what she said was inappropriate, she changed her tune, "I mean..."

She lowered her head, returning to her usual weak demeanor before continuing, "There are hospitals around. No need to go through all this trouble."

"It's no trouble," Elizabeth said directly.

I looked at her and narrowed my eyes.

Elizabeth seemed very certain I could help her. The way she stood in front of me, speaking, reminded me of a phrase: using someone else's power to intimidate others.

So, could I help her?

"I'll arrange it," I said. Even Charles, beside me, had an incredulous expression.

Indeed, if this had been before, I would never have done such a thing.

But now, looking at Elizabeth's pleading eyes, I agreed right away.

Elizabeth also seemed like she wanted to say something, but held back.

After a few seconds, she immediately gave me a sweet smile, "I knew you were the best."

That smile landed right on my heart, making it beat faster.

"Let's go."

Elizabeth consciously followed my steps. When I noticed this, I could actually feel the joy in my heart.

Bianca, behind us was clearly unwilling and tried to grab Aiden's hand, "Aiden, Mr. Windsor is obviously on Elizabeth's side. They might be working together to trick us."

Aiden sneered and shook off her hand, "That's not for you to worry about. I just want to know if you've been lying to me all along."

Elizabeth didn't even turn her head. She sat down beside me naturally, then shouted at them, "Aiden, have your driver follow us. And Mr. Windsor doesn't stoop to playing fake games. Bianca is saying all this - I think she's just feeling guilty!"

After saying that, Elizabeth closed the door directly, not even giving them another glance.

I looked at Elizabeth after she did all this and raised an eyebrow, "You're quite carefree."

The first time I saw Elizabeth, I sensed something different about her.

She was neither humble nor arrogant, completely different from before.

When she saw me arrive, although she was surprised at first, she quickly adapted.

She stood beside me as if she had assumed I was her backing, with a reassured expression on her face.

"Mr. Windsor, Aiden has always wanted me dead. To prevent him from threatening me in the future, and the baby in my belly, all this is necessary."

Elizabeth answered rationally and smiled at me, "So what do you think? Am I doing the right thing?"

That smile reached her eyes. Elizabeth's eyes curved into crescents, and I was stunned looking at her.
