Chapter 35
Elizabeth's POV
A crushing sense of oppression washed over me, and I almost instinctively wanted to call for help, until I saw that the person who'd burst in was Alex.
"Mr. Windsor! Save me!" I struggled to sit up in bed, my anxious heart finally settling back into place.
It was him. Even though he was just from a branch of the Windsor Family, he was enough to make Aiden think twice. I was saved.
The room fell into an eerie silence. Aiden's expression shifted from shock to fear, his eyes darting back and forth between Alex and me.
"You, you two..."
Alex merely glanced at him coolly, as if he didn't exist at all, and walked straight to the bedside to steady me.
"Are you okay?" He asked softly, the concern in his voice unmistakable.
I nodded at him and immediately said, "He tried to hurt me, and the baby in my belly. Mr. Windsor, you don't want anything to happen to this child either, right?"
I pointed the finger directly at Aiden. With Alex's support, I steadied myself and looked at him coldly.
Aiden's legs went weak, and he practically half-knelt by the bed, muttering over and over, "Impossible, this is impossible."
He suddenly looked up and said urgently to Alex, "Mr. Windsor! Don't listen to her nonsense! How could she possibly be pregnant with your child! She's lying through her teeth, just trying to trick you!"
"What are you talking about?" I reflexively shot back. "I'm pregnant with Alexander's child, not this Mr. Windsor's. Aiden, Mr. Windsor obviously knows whose child I'm carrying. There's no need for you to stir up trouble here."
Aiden turned to look at me, his eyes full of doubt. "You don't know that the man beside you is Alexander?"
Alexander?
I froze, whipping my head around to look at the man beside me, my mind going blank.
Aiden was saying that this Alex, this person I'd always thought was from a branch of the Windsor Family—and who had never denied it—was actually Alexander?
That Alexander, who struck fear into the business world, the ruthless, absolute power holder, Alexander?
How was this possible!
My disgust and hatred for Aiden were instantly pushed to the back of my mind. I looked somewhat stiffly at the man beside me, my voice trembling slightly. "Mr. Windsor, who exactly are you?"
Alexander's expression remained unchanged, or rather, you couldn't catch any emotion in those eyes of his—calm to the point of being cold.
The black custom-tailored suit perfectly outlined his solid build. Just standing there made this ordinary hospital room seem extraordinary.
This distinguished man looked at me, those dark eyes seeming to see right through me.
"Yes." He answered with just one word.
"The child in my belly is yours?" I opened my mouth, my mind racing through everything that had happened recently.
No wonder he'd specifically arranged for a doctor to examine me, arranged for a nutritionist to handle my meals, and even had Lisa and Anna put my safety first. I'd initially suspected he had other plans for this child.
Now it seemed that since I was carrying his child, of course, he'd be concerned about me!
Except I'd escaped from his villa on my own, barged into his parents' room, and done plenty of things that angered him.
If his tolerance of me was only because of this child, then what about after the baby was safely born? Would he settle all these scores with me?
Everything became unknown. After the shock came an even deeper fear. I couldn't help but shift to the side, trying to put some distance between us.
"What are you hiding from?" Alexander easily grabbed my arm and pulled me back to his side, his gaze sweeping over me.
I swallowed and cleared my throat. "He tried to hurt me, Mr. Windsor. He wanted to hurt your child!"
I reacted quickly, immediately turning the conversation back to the most pressing matter at hand—Aiden's threat.
Aiden's legs shook even harder, his voice turning hoarse. "Mr. Windsor, I didn't know what she said was true! How could my fiancée... I didn't know where this child came from! Please spare me this once, don't push me to the edge, okay?"
Watching Aiden grovel like this, I only felt a mix of sadness and absurdity. How sad that I'd once fallen for this kind of man. He was just a completely selfish coward, not worth anyone's love.
Suddenly, I remembered the truth about Bianca's illness. Just letting Alexander deal with Aiden would be letting him off too easily.
Aiden should get a taste of being betrayed by someone he loved. Didn't he say he'd do anything for Bianca?
"Aiden, since you keep saying everything is for Bianca, why don't you just donate your bone marrow to her directly? What if your life could save hers? Why don't you try it?"
I stared at him, able to feel Alexander's gaze constantly on me. That gaze had a strong presence, but he showed no intention of interfering.
I grew bolder and continued, "How about it? You trade your life for Bianca's, and afterward, your family becomes my family. I'll take care of them for you."
"Elizabeth, what do you mean by that?" Aiden had lost his earlier arrogance, speaking to me carefully.
I lifted my chin. "Exactly what I said. I'm helping you come up with ideas."
A commotion came from outside the door. Aiden's assistant rushed in, seemingly wanting to handle the aftermath, but as soon as he saw who was in the room, he immediately shut his mouth.
"Mr. Smith, this person is..." He looked at Alexander, his voice both stuttering and fearful.
I couldn't help but frown, sneaking a glance at the man beside me.
Why did it feel like the whole world knew his true identity, and I was the only one kept in the dark?
And Alexander had definitely hidden his identity on purpose, otherwise I wouldn't have been so convinced he was from a branch family. Why would a man of this status go to such lengths to hide his identity?
"Elizabeth, how do you want me to deal with him?"
A gentle voice sounded in my ear. I snapped back to attention, and as soon as I turned my head, I met a face wearing a slight smile.
This deeply handsome face carried an unapproachable dignity when not smiling, but once touched by a smile, it was like a spring breeze. Those beautiful eyes held laughter, as if they could easily draw a person's soul in.
Facing this face, I actually felt my face flush and my heart race. Especially after confirming he was my child's father, that subtle feeling was magnified infinitely.
I think I was getting shy around him.
