Chapter 283 No Marriage Alliance

Chapter 283 No Marriage Alliance

"This? Let me ask around." Cordelia frowned and thought for a moment.

"The pharmaceutical industry has been generating huge profits overseas these past few years. The Stone Group is actually in trade too, and Ruben has been expanding. Let me ask my dad."

She took out her phone and sent another message.

"Ruben is Ember's cousin. He's currently one of the most promising heirs in the Stone family."

Cordelia walked out with her phone. Hannah made a mental note of the name "Ruben."

This meant Ember wasn't the only heir in the Stone family, which made things easier to handle.

Sophia was tapping rapidly on her phone nearby.

"Hannah, don't worry, I'll definitely get the trending topic taken down."

"That damn Ember, attacking you like this over a man!"

She was really angry. This was using a woman's private matters as a weapon. What could she possibly gain from this?

The thought that Ember was deliberately targeting Hannah to marry Ethan made her even angrier.

"Hannah, have you heard back from Ethan?"

"He must be very busy right now. My problems, i'll handle them myself."

Hannah looked down at her phone, her expression barely changing.

The online reports weren't wrong. It was true she couldn't have children, and it was true that Nicholas had hurt her.

Her Instagram had been flooded with comments, with almost everyone urging her to respond. She chose silence.

"Sophia, aren't the two newly improved medications launching in the next few days?"

"At a time like this? You still have the mind to worry about that?"

Sophia was completely exasperated with her.

Hannah shook her head with a smile. "I have to worry about it. Have someone prepare the promotional content first. With the traffic so high, i'll post an ad."

"Why not take advantage of free traffic?"

Sophia watched as Hannah enthusiastically began recording platform data. She was completely speechless.

"Hannah, do you really not care?"

"Yeah." Hannah nodded. "I stopped caring a long time ago."

That's what she said, but her voice was a bit hoarse.

A few minutes later, Cordelia came back.

"Ruben is expanding into overseas pharmaceutical markets. He's been wanting to break in with low-priced domestic drugs. I've looked at the product line, and the two new drugs you have fit his requirements."

"Plus your drugs already have overseas certification, which could save the Stone Group a lot of time and money."

She licked her lips. "Should we partner with Ruben?"

"No need. Wait for him to come to me." Hannah said with a smile.

Cordelia relaxed when she saw that Hannah was unaffected.

The Lawson family meeting ended, and Ethan was asked to stay.

The police had issued a statement confirming that Daniel's death had nothing to do with Ethan. Ryan had no way to attack him with this.

Everyone else understood clearly that Ethan had come out on top again.

Getting the Alvenia police to issue a statement so quickly while obtaining evidence at least showed that Ethan's network was strong.

The Lawson family had always wanted to expand back into the domestic market—that was the key direction.

In the past, everyone favored Daniel because he had been cultivating connections domestically for years.

Now it seemed Ethan had the advantage.

Daniel's death hadn't shaken him at all; instead, it had solidified his position.

Gordon sat on the sofa in his study, slowly arranging the tea set on the table.

Richard and Ethan sat across from him, with Ryan standing nearby.

"Ryan, sit down." Gordon pushed a cup of tea toward him.

Ryan dropped to his knees instead.

"Gordon, my dad's death is unclear. We can't just let this go."

"The police have already given their conclusion. Didn't you watch the video?"

Gordon passed tea to Richard and Ethan, his tone was flat.

"Videos can be faked, and the police can be bought!" Ryan glared fiercely at Ethan.

"Someone has close ties with the Harvey family. What can't the Harvey family do in Alvenia?"

His implication was that Hannah had helped out, which was why Ethan got off.

"Then you go find the Harvey family too, and see if they'll help you."

Ethan gave a cold laugh and drained his teacup in one gulp.

"You!" Ryan pointed at him, then suddenly thought of something else.

"Ethan, are you really going to marry a woman who can't have children?"

"What is Hannah anyway? She hasn't even been recognized by the Harvey family. You're relying on a woman to hold up your image—what kind of skill is that?"

"If you've got what it takes, find yourself a woman who can help you too."

Ethan remained completely casual. "That depends on whether any woman would be interested in you."

Ryan trembled with rage. In the end, he could only turn to Gordon.

"Gordon, him finding a woman like this..."

"What's the problem?" Gordon looked at him with a smile.

"Ethan has dated at least fifty women, if not a hundred. What's the problem with one more Hannah?"

"Are you trying to say she can't have children? If she can't, that's the Harvey family's business. What does it have to do with the Lawson family?"

Just then, there was a knock on the study door. Uriah walked in.

"Sir, the police are here. They're asking for Ryan specifically."

"What do they want with me?" Ryan quickly stood up.

He had already bought a plane ticket and would be leaving the country in a few hours.

He knew very well that once the police ruled Daniel's death a suicide, he wouldn't get the huge insurance payout.

But to get the money quickly, he hadn't waited for the investigation results before applying for the payout, and he'd even paid an intermediary fifty thousand dollars as a bonus.

Now it was all down the drain, and he might even go to jail.

"Ryan, you're suspected of conspiring with your father Daniel to commit insurance fraud. We received a report from the insurance company. You need to come with us to assist with the investigation."

Two police officers stood at the door, their expressions stern.

Ryan shook his head repeatedly. "I... I haven't even received the insurance money yet! How could I have committed fraud?"

"And my dad is dead! Are you going to arrest him too?"

"Arresting you is enough," one of them replied.

This was the Lawson family estate, so the police still showed Gordon some respect.

"Mr. Lawson, we need to take him in for questioning."

Gordon gestured with his hand in invitation.

"No, Gordon, I'm innocent! This has nothing to do with me."

"It was all my dad's idea! Officer, you can't just arrest me!"

"Save me! Save me! I'm a member of the Lawson family."

As they led him out, he kept shouting, but no one in the estate looked at him or helped him.

The police car left, and the estate finally fell quiet.

Only then did Gordon turn to Ethan. "Ethan, you did very well this time."

"You forced Daniel and Ryan out, and you've secured your position. I think highly of you."

Ethan knew there was a "but" coming after those words.

"But." Gordon paused. "Hannah—you can work with her, you can flirt with her, you can sleep with her, it doesn't matter."

"But you absolutely cannot marry into an alliance with her!"
