Chapter 282 What's the Point?
Chapter 282 What's the Point?
Hannah had already completed the discharge procedures and was packing her things.
Sophia rushed in, looking upset.
"Have you seen the news? This is ridiculous. That's private information—who would dare leak it?"
"I saw the news as soon as I got off the plane. I'm furious. Right now it's trending on every platform and we can't get it taken down."
"Stop packing, Hannah!"
She stepped forward and took the items from Hannah's hands, her tone urgent. "Aren't you worried at all?"
"What should I be worried about?" Hannah asked calmly.
Sophia was momentarily speechless. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone looking their way, so she quickly walked to the door and pulled the curtains closed.
"You're trending again. What's going on?"
"Didn't you ask me to suppress Daniel's news? How did your news get out?"
"Someone got hold of my medical records." Hannah turned and sat back on the hospital bed, her tone calm. "They thought my infertility was something they could use against me, so they set a trap and fed it to the media."
"Don't worry. I've already had Shirley prepare a lawsuit. I'll make them pay the maximum compensation, and I'll make sure whoever leaked it faces criminal charges."
"What good does that do? It's not like you need the money!" Sophia clenched her fists in anger.
"These people have gone too far. What business is it of theirs whether you can have children or not? Who could be so awful?"
"We'll find out if we investigate."
Hannah lowered her gaze, her voice soft.
"I can't have children, so I don't have a direct heir. The Harvey family's collateral branches would benefit from that."
"If Nicholas's crimes against me were made public, Robinson Enterprises' stock price would drop. Anyone wanting to acquire shares in Robinson Enterprises would benefit."
"And also..."
She looked up, her expression tightening.
"I'm infertile, and Ethan is the Lawson family's only heir. The Lawson family won't accept a daughter-in-law like that. Ethan's rivals and Ember would all benefit, right?"
Sophia immediately agreed. "Right, exactly. It must be one of these parties."
"I'll have someone investigate right now. If they dare to hurt you like this, I'll make them pay!"
She immediately started making phone calls, using all her connections to investigate.
Hannah continued packing.
There wasn't much of hers in the hospital room, just various nutritional supplements that Cordelia and Ethan had bought.
When she thought of Ethan, she felt noticeably relieved.
Asking Alphonse for help this time and promising his son shares was definitely worth it. Otherwise, if the police had really investigated for a full month as required, Ethan might have lost his inheritance rights.
This way was fine too. Everyone's attention was focused on the news about her infertility, which didn't affect her much. Good.
The hospital room door was suddenly pushed open. Cordelia rushed in with red-rimmed eyes and hugged Hannah tightly.
"Ms. Nguyen, I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I should have stayed to protect you."
"That Ember has completely lost it. She's really crazy!"
"So it was her." Sophia cursed under her breath.
The connections she'd mobilized quickly identified the person behind it all—Ember.
Ember seemed very anxious, rushing to throw out damaging information about Hannah. She personally contacted the trolls, personally bought trending spots on platforms.
Cordelia said, "Hannah, should we call the police? This Ember has gone too far!"
She handed over her phone. "She even bought trending spots for three days. Is she crazy? Just to marry Ethan?"
"Of course. The Stone family has several potential heirs. Her dad has several children from affairs, so naturally she has to find a way."
Cordelia wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes forcefully. "Call the police, arrest her. We can't let her get away with this."
"Don't call the police." Hannah took Sophia's phone and gently set it aside.
Sophia stomped her foot hard. "Hannah, are you going to let her off again? Why not call the police?"
"Call the police about what? Say she spread rumors?"
Hannah methodically folded her clothes. "Everything she said is true. She hired trolls, but she didn't fabricate or slander anything—it's all true. The police would at most give her a warning and release her quickly. There's no point."
"No point, so we do nothing? No way. I can't swallow this!" Sophia raised her voice. Cordelia nodded vigorously beside her.
"Ms. Nguyen, don't worry. I've already had my dad step in to suppress your trending topics. But we can't just let Ember off like this!"
"Who said I'm letting her off?"
Hannah looked at them both, her tone helpless but firm. "Calling the police would only detain her for twenty-four hours at most. What's the point of that?"
Sophia and Cordelia exchanged glances, then looked at Hannah together.
Just then, Hannah's phone rang. The caller was Alphonse.
"Hannah, people from the insurance company have already come to file a police report, accusing Ryan and Daniel of insurance fraud."
"Director Harvey, thank you for taking the trouble. Please don't let these people get away with it."
Hannah responded with a smile. "Nelson is lucky to have such a fair and upright father like you. I'm sure he'll do very well in the company's HR department."
Nelson was Alphonse's son, who had just graduated from college this year. Normally, he wouldn't be able to directly become a manager in Harvey Corporation's HR department. But with just one word from Hannah, his life trajectory could change.
Alphonse's tone also relaxed. "Hannah, we're on the same side. Besides, your report was accurate. Now that the insurance company has also filed a report, of course I'll follow up."
"I'm calling to let you know. I've already arranged for people to arrest those involved."
"Thank you." Hannah hung up with a smile.
Cordelia, having heard the phone conversation, was too shocked to speak for a moment.
"Ms. Nguyen, how did you think of that?"
"Just put yourself in their shoes. Think from Daniel's perspective about why he'd do this, and you can figure out what else he might do."
Hannah's expression relaxed considerably. "Ryan will definitely be restricted from leaving the country. As long as the police investigate, they'll definitely find problems."
"No one will compete with Ethan now. Nothing to worry about anymore, right?"
Seeing the smile on her face, Cordelia's eyes reddened again. "You're so good to Ethan. If he dares to let you down, I'll be the first to beat him up!"
Hannah wanted to say that she didn't need Ethan to do anything, and their relationship didn't involve any question of being let down. But seeing Cordelia about to cry, she held back.
Sophia asked quietly from the side, "What about that Ember?"
"Don't touch her yet." Hannah's lips curved slightly.
"If you want her to self-destruct, you have to let her think she's won."
She turned to Cordelia. "I'm not very familiar with overseas operations. Can you tell me what the Stone Group's main business is? It should be connected to Lumora Biotech Inc., right?"
