Chapter 95 CHAPTER 95
Chapter 95 CHAPTER 95
Callum’s POV
I hold Jayden in my arms and take him into the hospital wardroom. He has been so quiet but the moment we enter, he lets out a cry. Maybe it was the distinct scent of his mother, who knows? The moment Aurora hears it, she jumps out of bed, rushes towards me and snatch Jayden from me. She starts to cry, expressing her joy. It is 9:24pm and the other women in the ward who were sleeping woke up due to the noise she caused. She eventually calms down but she is moved to a private VIP ward which I would pay for.
“What happened? Did you get the kidnapper? Did you find out who sent her?” Aurora asks curiously.
“It’s a long story,” I begin to narrate my well-crafted tale. “I tracked down the culprit persistently and I ended up finding myself in the midst of ten gangsters. They had the kid and they told me to back off else they would hurt me really badly. I couldn’t do that. I knew I had to leave with Jayden no matter what.”
“Really?” she asks, getting absorbed in what I was saying.
“Yes, that’s what happened,” I affirm. “I had to fight them off with all my might. It was a tough battle but thankfully, I managed to beat all of them and get the child. I couldn’t bring them to justice though. Those scoundrels escaped. I’m sorry about that, I know I should have made sure they…”
“Stop,” Aurora says with teary eyes. She touches my face now, “Is that why you have a wound on your lower lip? Did those son-of-bitches hit you?”
I smile. I am glad I left that detail.
“It’s fine,” I say, acting all macho. “It’s nothing. I delivered more brutal wounds to them. I’m sure they have learned their lesson by now. I don’t think they will come back.”
Aurora sighs.
“They might,” she muttered. “I might have an unrelenting enemy. You know, there are people like that. People that won’t stop until they see your end. I might have made such a person an enemy.”
“Do you suspect someone?” I lean closer to her, our lips only a few inches apart.
“I… I’m not sure,” she hesitates. She doesn’t lean away from me and I consider this a red flag. I plan to move close and kiss her. She has so much gratitude towards me today so it is less probable that she will push me away. I stare at her lips now and I find myself biting my lower lip, salivating.
I can do this. My heart is pounding as I lean closer and… the door opens. I move away and cast a look at the door. It is Andrew. He has succeeded in ruining my plan one more time. No one would blame me for making him a sworn enemy.
Andrew enters and takes in the scene before him. When he sees Jayden, I believe he would be surprised but he is rather disappointed. Well, even the almighty Andrew wanted to be the hero today? Too bad for him.
“Callum, can I see you for a moment?” Andrew asks.
I turn to Aurora before I answer him, “Sure.”
I step outside with Andrew and he leads me to the rooftop, a place which he considers private enough. I look around skeptically and then stare at him, wondering what he had to tell me.
“Did you plan this?” he asks, his voice deliberately low. My heart skips for a moment there.
“What do you mean? What did I scheme?” I ask gently.
“Don’t you dare play dumb with me!” he shouts angrily. His fists are clenched and he looks like he has plans to devour me any moment from now.
I begin to laugh, gently, at first and then louder afterwards.
“You seem to have made up your mind already. No matter what I say, you won’t believe me,” I say, knowing I was only annoying him further.
“What I want to know is the truth, Callum,” he tells me, his voice even lower this time. “I need to know how rotten you’ve become.”
“Rotten? I’m not rotten,” I answer. “Again, I will ask you, what did I plan?”
“Everything!” he barks at me. “You kidnapped Jayden only for you to bring him back to Aurora. You wanted to be useful to her and the only way you could think of is causing her pain and ending that pain. You act like the savior when in reality, you are the thorn in her flesh.”
“Those are bold accusations, Andrew,” I tell him, smiling. From the look on his face, he must be feeling like strangling me right now. I would be annoyed too if I were in his shoes.
“You are a cunning bastard, Callum. How did I miss that?” he asks.
I raise my head and glance at him.
“You are right. How could you underestimate me?” I ask, a smirk on my face. I walk closer towards him and whisper, “Yes, I did it, everything you think I did. Now, Aurora will trust me instead of her. I will be her strength, the one she calls when she is in danger.”
Andrew begins to laugh, “You mean to save her from the danger you cause her?”
“Once in a while,” I mutter. “I should go back now to Aurora. You failed to bring Jayden, I don’t think you should hang around here.”
I turn to leave and only then does Andrew attack me. I feel his hands on my waist as he grabs me only to throw me the other way. I manage to fall without injury and I stand up, ready to charge. I throw a punch at him and he replies with another. We begin to rain punches on each other and we only stop when we hear someone shout ‘what the hell are you doing’ in the distance.
I look up. It is Aurora, staring at us as she pants.
