Chapter 94 CHAPTER 94
Chapter 94 CHAPTER 94
Andrew’s POV
But this isn’t the time to think about how Julien will mock me for life for being unable to win against a woman. Right now, finding Jayden comes first. The lady was moving backwards now.
“You’d better stop there,” Julien warns her. He points to me now, “You could have had a chance of escaping when he was the only one here. It has changed now. I am here and I tell you, you are going nowhere.”
I ignore the fact that Julien is undermining me at this very moment.
The lady stops moving backwards. She is seated in one spot, shaking.
“You should be fearless,” Julien tells her. “You were able to kidnap a two-year old child from a daycare. That takes guts. Why are you afraid now? By any chance, is it because we aren’t two-year old children?”
“She is a weak person too,” I chirp in. “Weak people like her are the most dangerous. They know they are weak and they derive their strength from oppressing even weaker people.”
“I didn’t do it because I was weak! I did it for money!” she exclaims.
“Now we’re getting somewhere…” Julien says, a smile on his face. “Usually, the culprit denies the crime first. I’m glad we have to skip that process for you.”
“Let me go,” she mutters shakily.
“You don’t get to request that, not at this point,” I tell her firmly. “Where is the boy you kidnapped?”
“He isn’t with me, not anymore,” she answers. “My job was simple. I was to kidnap the kid, hand him over, and get paid.”
“Right, I saw the cash on your bed. You had your passport there too, are you going somewhere?” I ask sarcastically. “I doubt you’ll be able to go.”
“Please,” she begs. She is on her knees now.
“You can tell us where the child is. Maybe we might have mercy on you,” Julien chirps in. “If you won’t give us something concrete, I think it’s only fair you rot in prison.”
“I really… I really don’t know. If I know his location, I will tell you right away,” she begins to say. Julien goes near her and grabs her neck firmly, strangling her in the process. I watch her try to shout for help but she is unable. My heart rate increases and I fear Julien will kill her at this point.
“I do not mind killing you, lady,” Julien threatens her. “The boy you kidnapped… you don’t know but he is very valuable. I might now know who you’re working for but I know you. I can make your death slow and excruciating and unlike my partner who was reluctant to hit a petty criminal like you, I don’t mind. Your gender doesn’t matter to me, what matters is that you are a kidnapper.”
Julien lets go of her throat and she begins to cough, her eyes red.
“I used to work with a mafia family in Italy. I did the interrogation and the torture and right now, all I can think of are the different ways to torture you to get you to tell the truth. I know people like you very well, you’ll speak after losing five or ten fingers…” Julien says in a calm but deadly manner. His gaze tells me he isn’t lying. I never knew he used to be with the mafia until today.
“Please…” the lady starts to cry. It doesn’t move me.
“You had better start talking,” I urged her.
She takes a deep breath, “I really don’t know where the child is but the person who gave me the job might know.”
“Who is the person?” I ask calmly.
“I don’t know his real name but in the industry, they call him Drogo. He doesn’t have an office but I have his phone number. I could give it to you and…” the lady tries to explain.
“I know Drogo. Whatever phone number he uses for a business, he never uses it again. The phone number must be impossible to reach by now,” Julien says knowingly.
“It can’t be…” the lady mutters. She brings out her phone and calls the number. It ends up being unreachable. When she attempts to try one more time, Julien snatches the phone from her.
“You couldn’t give us something concrete in the end,” he mutters, a smile on his face.
“I… I don’t know why he would change his phone number and…” she tries, her voice weak.
“Let’s hand her over to the police,” Julien suggests. “That will be a much better fate for her.”
“Please don’t do that. I will be imprisoned if I get arrested,” she pleads.
“Would you prefer dying?” Julien asks flatly. “You’d better keep your mouth shut.”
She doesn’t talk anymore. Julien and I go to a corner of the room to deliberate.
“If we don’t have a phone number for this ‘Drogo’, how do we find him? Isn’t this another dead end for us?” I ask, my voice filled with worry.
“No, if she really worked with Drogo, we will be able to contact him,” Julien tells me confidently. “We can find him, and easily at that.”
Julien drove me to a random warehouse after we had handed over the lady to the police. He parks outside and both of us enter. The warehouse wasn’t to store goods, it was a hideout for gangsters. I can see men all over, dressed in suits and holding clubs and knives. Julien looks fearless as he walks forward and I try to be too.
We approach the only one sitting among the gangsters. I guess he is Drogo.
“Isn’t this my darling Julien?” Drogo stands up, laughing.
“Right, I am the one,” he replies. “I didn’t know you kidnap children for money.”
“Is that why you are here?” Drogo asks. “If so, you misunderstood. The child won’t be hurt.”
“Oh really?” Julien asks sarcastically.
“The client wanted the child to be in our custody for a little while. I’m sure the child is with his mother by now,” Drogo replies.
“What do you mean?” I ask, unable to understand what was going on.
Drogo comes near us and whispers, “Can you keep a secret?”
“Tell me,” Julien says firmly.
Drogo smiles, “Our client seems close with the mother. He had the child kidnapped in the morning and says he will return the child to the mother at night. I wonder what he is trying to achieve.”
“Who is your client?” I ask.
“C’mon, I can’t tell you that,” Drogo says, laughing.
“Tell us. Don’t you think you owe me that considering the number of favors I’ve done for you?” Julien asks.
“I don’t know his full name but his first name is definitely Callum.”
